Dave (the 36-year-old with the impressive beard) was raised almost completely sheltered from pop culture by his strict military family. He was homeschooled his entire life until he entered college. He legitimately has very little knowledge of music and bands from before 2000.
John (the guy in the dark on the right) has been a MUSIC LOVER since he was born in the 1960's. Problem is, he rarely knows or fully grasps the lyrics. Dave (on the left), on the other hand, has never heard or rarely overheard the music John chooses to play for him, but tends to take lyrics literally, sometimes to unexpected ends.
John remains in the dark both as a wry play on the situation but also because of legal issues causing his attorney to recommend maintaining a low profile.
We did not write nor do we own the Copyright for the song used in this Educational Video. This is a real, honest reaction to a song Dave have never consciously heard before and/or listened to with intent. Any "facts" offered by John "Doh" are based more on his remembrances than on any actual research. Please feel free to correct him. He loves it.

At 65yo and a musician, I have many band that I like but at this time I have only two that sit on my favorites mantle. YES is one and the other is the latest band Band-Maid from Japan. The complicated/intricate composition of both bands is what attracts me to any band. Both bands have musicians that are on another level that can bring tears to your eyes not just by wonderful melodies, but from pure hardworking talent.

Uh, no. Not this tour. I think you are thinking of the Union tour, with Anderson, Squire, Wakeman, Kaye, Bruford, White, Howe, and Rabin. The 90125 tour was Anderson, Squire, Rabin, White, and Kaye only.

Squire was always the most animated member of Yes. He was a joy to watch, not because he was the best bassist ever, but fun to watch.

I was going through some hard times when this came out, and this album gave me some kind of comfort over anything else released up to that point. I have a soft spot in my heart for this record. Collision of Brilliance...

LOVE this song so much; my favorite off of 90125. Trevor kills on this whole album. He and Jon's vocal harmonies and interplay are mesmerizing and so easy on the ears here. Good comparison to 1980s Rush sensibilities, John. Concise and very tight chops. Trevor always brought economical, clean riffs and leads. Hey! HersheyPark Arena is the site of my first Rush concert on the Permanent Waves Tour (The Spectrum was the site of my next 2 Rush concerts)! Changed my musical life.

I have this in my top 5 best LP’s of all time. Supremely produced, engineered, and performed ending with one of favorite YES songs, an absolutely epic track “Hearts”. Really digging the channel guys. Keep’em coming!

@@Cigarsam Yeah... I saw them in Columbus, Ohio on that tour - my first time seeing Yes. It was also the very first date of the U.S. leg of that tour. Echo and the Bunnymen were supposed to open for them, but for one reason or another, they didn't, and the show was SUPPOSED to have Bugs Bunny cartoons to fill in the EatB, but didn't. Basically, there was about 45 minutes of house music until Yes came out. Not a complaint at all, though. I figure it was just start-of-the-tour problems that would be worked out eventually. The concert itself was amazing, fantastic, and whatever other superlatives you can add.
The only thing that irritated me about the show was that the local rock station bought ALL the tickets, and people had to send in a check for the number of tickets they wanted, and then the station just pulled envelopes out of a pile and threw whatever tickets in. I got mine off ten minutes after they announced it, and ended up with upper balcony seats, two rows forward of the back wall. A friend had gotten extra tickets, so I bought a pair of his and sold mine to another friend who didn't get any at all. I ended up in the stadium seating to the left of the stage, about 10 rows up from the floor, and maybe 20-25 rows from the stage.
Second and last time I saw them was on the Ladder tour, with Kansas opening.

Never heard of such a strange policy! That sucks. We camped out at the Spectrum ticket window overnight for one of those dates. When they toured Big Generator, I bought 7th row floor from a scalper for triple face value. - JD

I've been a fan of YES since 1973. When 90125 came out I had mixed feeling well at least till I played it Then I just accepted it as the new path YES was on. Changes is one of my favorites off this Album. I love all things YES

90125 is a favorite album of mine. I agree that Yes was still being very musically creative in this period. As JD says, it is not a big leap from Yes to Rush (or vice versa) at this time. I wish I had seen them on tour. I could recommend just about any song on this album, but I'll go with "It Can Happen".

While my preferred Yes era was the 70’s, I did very much enjoy this new version of Yes. Changes is perhaps my favorite song of this era. It Can Happen is great too. Big Generator was not as good as 90125. But Talk was very good although their sound was changing again. I would have liked to hear more from this era. The few songs on Union don’t really count. But Trevor Rabin is a great guitarist and singer. So different from Steve Howe and Jon Anderson.

  • @michaelyork4554
    @michaelyork4554 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I Love the sound, and complexity which 90125 offers. Trevor is a Great Guitarist, and vocalist, but it's the lyrical content that I was conflicted with. From the time I was a child,
all I heard was love songs, or woman/man done me wrong songs, so when I found Yes, and Floyd, the lack of ANY relationship content "per se" was appreciated. So when
Steve Howe went to join Asia, and Yes became a Progressive Pop group, I was very conflicted, but with the understanding that "changes" happen and these musicians had
to move on, and further develop their careers. I don't despise relationship songs, but lyrically, I feel like the childlike wonder of universal questions, about existence, is a bit more
compelling. This is not the "Yes Snob" issue that is referred to, but just a desire to be emotionally moved by lyrics that are transcendent like "Turn Of The Century" rather than
just the mundane, earthly, fallibility of humans, relating to each other, socially, and romantically. At least "Owner.." and "Heat Of The Moment" have some "grander" allusions
to something more in the lyrics. If I am in the mood for relationship songs, I will listen to Dan Fogelberg. Like You JD, my parents were Elvis fans, so I got an earful of hearing
about poor Elvis opining about love, and loss, and had to watch Elvis Movies. Elvis had a very impressive voice, and I would rather hear him sing Gospel songs than love songs.
Sorry about the book, but you brought it up.

Wow. I hadn't thought or remembered that they opened with cartoons! I remember at the time missing the Firebird Suite as their show opener, but I really don't recall if they used it every time. The first time I went was a single show at The Spectrum, but due to one of the Philly sportsball teams being in a finals game, they couldn't do their typical 3 nights in a row in Philly but booked 2 more nights some time later with the Hershey show in the middle there.

Went into this thinking “this should be cool, interest to see his reaction to a Yes song that doesn’t sound like a Yes song,” came out of it disappointed when I saw that “ugh, a live version, all the nuances and carefully sculpted sound gone out the window.” I know, live versions have better solos blah blah blah.
