    Not high earners (well I had a decent salary but not outrageous). We FIRED when I was 52 with about $1.6M. That was 7 years ago. Today we stand at around $4.2M. I didn't save hardly anything until I got serious at age 36.

    Always good to see you, my favorite people to watch. I am a single 51 years old. I wish I knew you a long time ago. I hope it is not too late to try to achieve fire journey for the next 10 years. After listening to yiur all videos, I allocated my contribution from tsp life cycle to S&P 500, and put all my Roth IRA under the Total stock market index . I plan to keep them there until I have 2-3 years.before I retire. I also started putting money in my brokerage account which I have opened up years ago without putting money in it. Now i have been adding money to it monthly .

    I would love to hear about FIRE for single parents. We don’t have a spouse’s income to help us invest and we, typically but not always, have more expenses than a single person due to the children. How do we side-hustle and not lose what non-working time we have with the kids?

      i would check out the channel Kate Kaden! She's a single parent and does a ton of content on saving, paying of debt, and now even more! she doesnt talk details in investing but she does provide a ton of motivation and may open up your mind to how you could do it too! 🙌🙌

    Fantastic video, as always! I started my FIRE journey 12 years ago (I didn’t know that was what it was called, just knew I wanted to retire early) and I’m retiring at the end of this year. I’ve been able to stay focused because my husband is on board with the plan and I have never cared what my friends and coworkers thought about it. If I listened to the naysayers and fear mongers I would have been scared to pull the plug on the cushy corporate job I currently have. Great video with 10 great pieces of advice!

      Do you have a Roth IRA account? If you are investing take-home money in an investment account, a Roth IRA is great because the interest grows tax-free and is tax-free when you withdrawal. It has an annual limit for contributions, which is great for setting goals on your financial journey. It's a great first account for investing, until you can max out a 401k, maybe an HSA, and then an investment account that you pay taxes on the interest.

    Yall. I actually have a budget and I am drafting my financial plan. Debt avalanche/snowball to attack the debt to be debt-free by the end of 2023. I have a good idea of my FIRE number and I also have a positive net worth. It's higher than $1. Progress for me. Yeah. I thank you guys so much for taking the time to elaborate on so many excellent points. I am still in school so my plate is pretty full, but I plan on taking a FIRE class from yall one day. Learn from the experts yeah! And I am going to check out Portugal and Spain as well over in a few years as a retirement destination for my late 40's/early 50s. I am thankful and I am driven to surround myself with like-minded people. I also reaffirm that I am enough and that setbacks will occur to help me reassess and take inventory. Thank you, Amon and Christina. Yall have made such an impact on my life. Thank you.

    Love your channel! I’m so glad I found it. I think I’ve watched almost all of your videos in the last week lol!
    I’m 22 years old and I had minimal knowledge of which retirement account to open or how to begin investing before finding your channel. You both explain everything very clearly and your advice is easy to follow. I’ve been self-employed since graduating from college last August and thanks to the both of you, I am confident in opening a SEP IRA, Roth IRA, and investing into ETFs to begin my FIRE journey. I will definitely be signing up for your Masterclass to acquire even more knowledge!

    I’ve loved following your family’s journey these past three years. Thanks so very much for inspiring me to save!
    Can you address how we go about donating to charities each year? I donate clothing and small amounts of cash, but I’m unclear about the best way to do this so that it benefits both charities and me on my taxes.
    Also, can you provide some additional guidance on steps to setting up a ROTH IRA without a broker? Should we consult a broker for these initial steps? I’m still a little unclear about this.
    Finally, should student loans be completely paid off before investing beyond 401K? Many thanks in advance!

    Late to the video today but here's my take-aways: (sum of 5 people you hang with) I am good on this one, Christina + Amon + 3 others so I have a great team. (stay consistent) reminder that keeping my monthly budget, post salary decrease during covid, the same moving forward when the whole paycheck comes back to me is the right move. Save the rest because I have been living on less already. (break up the long-term goal) So this I NEED to do. It will go hand in hand with the (get on the same page) talk. We are on the same page but my spouse is (seeking unrealistic returns) to get there faster. I need to show how to bridge that gap with short term wins. (still have fun on the journey) thank you for supporting my continued travel hacking while I work and save. This was clearly the best take-away I got from the video. LOL I thank you....my spouse not so much.

    I've seen the ETF/Index Funds related videos but I haven't understand one thing. Even with the compound interest, the value on fund grows, and etc, but how do you "cash out" your money out of broker? Say you had 100k invested for the long run, reached 500k and want to cash it out

    • @karlaconnwelch
      @karlaconnwelch 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Tiago Ribeiro
      You wouldn't cash out all at once. You cash out your needs to support your lifestyle, as long as that is not over 4% of your portfolio for the year.
      I agree that a video on how FIRE people manage their withdrawals would be helpful. They talk so much about building the accounts, it would be good to also hear about withdrawaling funds to support their early retirement. For example, there must be tips on an order of operations of accounts they withdrawal from first vs last.
      Some accounts have rules, such as withdrawing penalty free after age 59.5. Others have different rules.
      The actual mechanics of withdrawing from a brokerage account is straight forward. Google "JL Collins Stocks - Part XXVI: Pulling the 4%." From your online brokerage account, you transfer money to your checking account or anywhere else you choose.

    When I suggest your videos I always talk about you two are a couple who are on the same page, in the same book, in the same library. Although it isn't the only reason for divorce, financial problems is a high on that list. As always very good tips.

    Happy Sunday Amon, Christina and the beautiful girls and to all of us 🙏… tho I’m almost to my retirement you guys are still an inspiration. I was scared of investing aside from my federal 401k= which I maxed from the start. You’re one of the people I watched first before I started investing. Although I think I will not retire early only because I enjoy my job and earning pretty well so glad to come across your journey. Thanks for always sharing them. ❤️🌷

    I wonder what the combined household income was for this couple during their Fire journey and what expenses did they have. Great vid though..

      I believe they both worked for the US government and relocated often on the govt dime.... my guess is their combined income was pretty high!

    Talking to your partner about F.I.R.E is like talking English and French one don't understand the other. Lol I agree people have to be in sync with the other thought process.

    In addition to toxic money friends, add coworkers bringing their kid's school fundraiser things to work. This happened at one of my previous jobs on payday. I'm not coming to work to fund your kid's dream. Le-me' 'lone🤣🤣🤣😊

      I know. Right? As if we're supposed to fund their fundraisers. A former supervisor did that to us and I, firmly, told her I wouldn't be contributing. I'm not going to be bullied into spending my hard-earned money. Geez.
      I'd rather invest my money. Spending adds up fast and I'd like to know I'm spending my money on people and things I feel good about. I won't be bullied. I wasn't rude just firm: No, thank you. I won't be contributing. I agree with you.👏👏👏
