Original sonic game for the Sega Game Gear. Also known as Sonic and Tails 2 in Japan this game was made specifically for the game gear and plays/looks a little more like the genesis sonic games rather then the ported master system games.
While I didn't play it that well, it certainly isn't a speedrun, I did make sure to collect all the emeralds from the bonus rooms. Only 50 rings was needed to access these areas, but I get a bit carried away when I see an large set of easily collectable rings -

The fact that this game never saw a release on the Sega Master System, but "Sonic Blast" did really grinds my gears. It's the best out of all the Game Gear titles.
Yes, I am aware of that fan hack that converts this into a Master System game. But, it (like 90% of the other Game Gear to Master System hacks) hasn't been updated in *YEARS.* The 16-bit hack though... Simply amazing.

I feel like when this game came out, Sega developers had gotten the perfect handle of what a Game Gear could do. This is probably the best handheld Sonic game up to that point.
This was easily the best game gear sonic game. I may have owned all of the GG sonic games that released in the states and recall having enjoyed this one the most.

I'm only here to watch as I fancy a bit of Sonic Chaos like, 8 bit platforming action but can't be bothered to go though playing this at the moment (or ever really).
I tend to play Sonic Chaos instead of this.

After Sonic Mania, I really want to see them make a sequel where they bring back and remaster old zones from games like this and Sonic Chaos, and maybe some of the Advance games too. I always loved the jungle level in this.
I want Sonic Mania 2 to use the Sonic Advance character sprites.
It's strange because the Jungle Zone in this area VERY much feels like the cut Jungle Zone for Sonic 2 on the Mega Drive/Genesis. The chipset alone has a very similar feel to it.

There's a Time Attack, sound test and Options when you move a d-pad in the title screen.
This basically was Sonic 3 on Game Gear. Sonic 2 was really Sonic 1 part 2. And Sonic Chaos was compared to Sonic 2 more so of the Genesis version.

I have never played this game, and I was confused by that level design. It is VERY unSonic like to have solid looking platforms like that which you can run through! I also saw that there were hidden platforms that only appeared when you guessed where they were at in midair. WTF, how much time would it take to figure those out on your own with no guide??? Game Gear runs on batteries, people don't have time for that level of experimentation!?
Back in the day, I always wanted this one to be ported to the Genesis. Also, I read the comic version of Triple Trouble long before I ever played the game.
I believe the Sega Genesis has backwards compatibility with the old Master System, and I think the handheld titles were also made into Master System cartridges. So you could play Triple Trouble on the Genesis, but don't expect any visual or audio upgrades.

I don't know why it took me so long to learn about this game. I didn't even know Nack was from this game!
Sonic Triple Trouble is most personal to me from the Sonic IP not just b/c I played it a lot but it left a lasting impression, concepts & even music which I like the best out of all 2D Sonic games.
This all slaps & goes beyond the previous OSTs (Yes moreso than Koshiro's, Chaos & even the MD/Genesis games) with a edgier, prog-rock feel in structure & balancing of near chromatic tones, yet never losing its trademark wit.
Also its last zone & bosses have the most intricate ominous themes I've ever heard from this IP, really unnerving yet adrenaline & metal. And as Sonic reconciles with Knuckles, how it subtly transitions to a major-scale positive vibed coda after all the dissonant chaos is powerfully cathartic, amped further with the soaring to homecoming ending.
This always moves me even now, glad to see a thorough playthrough of it. Infinite Thanks for your effort on this!

It was easily my favorite GG game and even though I had a Game Boy Advance, I probably spent more time with the old Game Gear. The thing I remember most is torturing my parents by going through batteries nonstop…

It's unbelievable that this game will finally have a 16-Bit Remake from a Sonic Fan.
Admittedly, I didn't play this game as much growing up, much preferring Sonic 2 and 3, but I did enjoy this one! I remember thinking Knack was a cool character that I wanted to know more about, also, that second level was the one that always stuck with me. Something about that train section really tickled my fancy.
Everytime I see the title screen of this game, I keep expecting Sonic to flick Knuckles away. 😂😂😂

First time I got myself into this game I wasn’t expecting much, Sonic Chaos was pretty good, but in this game I really thought I would struggle a lot. And i didn’t too much! It was actually fun! The special stages were pretty good and I loved Fang’s interactions! In fact, I played thus game multiple times now with both characters! I think I am actually obsessed now! But if you didn’t play this yet and you have a way to play it, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND PLAYING IT (even if you’re not reading this comment).
It's cool to see the differences between the game gear an dthe 16 bit fan remake. 16 bit remake is litterally if this game was made by the creators of sonic mania.

Oh! So this is where they got the name of the song from! I honestly thought it was just because of the three souls but it seems it’s also a reference to this game! God the people that worked on the fnf sonic exe mod were thinking smart!
I love how this game looks I also find it humorous how after the secne with sonic running across the screen with the sega logo appears I love how after that one by one the chaos emeralds show up and knuckles collects them all and runs off with sonic and tails giving chase after him and eggman showing up in a contraption of his showing off one of the emeralds truly love how much effort was put into the game's intro same with sonic chaos as well

They should really made a origins style game for the 4 main sonic game gear games like sonic 1 2 chaos and triple trouble keeping the same 8 bit style and sound design but with widescreen support (you could throw in some extra game like sonic spinball and robotniks mean bean machine as well)

I can't believe this game existed. I only was taught growing up there was 3 games for Sega that's it, the others was pinball and all the other non level games. Later as a kid sonic and knuckles came out which was originally going to be sonic 3 but was too long so they released it separately. As a kid I am sure there was a different version of the three or four games for Sega but I couldn't be sure. I remember going to a fate as an 11 year old and picking up this cartridge, putting it in and it was totally different. It was just called "Sonic the hedgehog" I then found out they was the SNES version and Nintendo had its own version. I only had the first one but it was way harder than Sega and never finished it. To this day, I am waiting for a switch download for these games. I was very excited that Sonic 4 was released but it was only to stream on PS now and my connection was to slow for it they released part two for the Xbox but I could never find it. I was excited when Sonic mania came out and I downloaded it but haven't had time to play it. Now I have found out that Sonic Triple Trouble and Chaos was also released for Game Gear (not portable) and that's two more I can think about. What's best even if I'm wrong and Game Gear is portable (can't remember) it's being remastered for PS4 and Ps5. Plus in this day and age a USB C cable should allow phones or other devices to be plugged in to TV. It's just you might be using you phone and just using the TV to blow it up, it depends. I have had many dreams since then, as if dreaming and imagining many sonic games that might have or not existed is important. (Which it is) I play sonic games in my dreams in the Astral plane, or in my thoughts ha ha ha, I am now dreaming of the levels and sketching them. Going to a medium who can sketch and paint so they can see my drawings and sketch it themselves and colour it in so I then can go to a professional developer to see if they can get it fan edited or done with permission or I might make a non published version by asking my computer programming friend.
Edit: The Game Gear is portable, was getting mixed up with Sega Saturn. I only had the portable Gameboy colour and B&W as a kid so was unfamiliar.
I always liked the way Sega console games looked, something about the Color Palette they use. It's always a "sunny day" on the Sega side of things 🙏🙏 Nintendo games to me (even if they are fun as fuck to play) always look like it's a dampy cloudy foggy day for whatever reason (Donkey Kong Country and Megaman X as exceptions)
While a better library of games would have helped the Game Gear compete with the GameBoy a little more, in the end, a better library would have only delayed the inevitable and the Game Gear would have still lost in the end due to its battery issues (compare the Game Gear 6 AA batteries that only last roughly 5-6 hours to the GameBoy's 4 AA batteries that roughly last 10-12 hours), to be fair though the Game Gear had a lifespan of 6 years which isn't too bad considering the lack of good games.

I've been playing emulators since early 2000's, instead of "waiting for it" with the physical thing... Congratulations, all you did was wait years to leave money at the hands of a middleman/collector/scalper
but even myself I gotta admit it must be cool as fuck to have the physical thing on your hands if you also have the console, I kinda get it
