By 1987, South Africa decisively defeated Angolan and Cuban forces, tilting the conflict in favor of UNITA rebels. Concurrently, South Africa's gradual disengagement from its conflict with SWAPO who operated from Angola, followed Russia's withdrawal of support for proxy wars due to its transformation into a Federation. With perceived threats diminishing, South African forces returned home, initiating the transition to black-led governance under the ANC. However, mismanagement ensued as the ANC disbanded the formidable South African army, dismissing its skilled white personnel, leading to equipment deterioration. Today, the South African army struggles, having failed to produce any notable weaponry for the market-a stark testament to the corrosive impact of corruption

South african Arms industry is one of the top 10 Arms industries in the world. We're estimated to produce and sell 3 billion rand worth of artillery for the EU. Both Finland and Estonia have increased their annual order for South african umkhonto SAM systems. We export armoured vehicles to over 25 countries including the UK, the US, Germany, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Oman, Thailand, Luxembourg and Argentina. We're estimated to produce and deliver up 13 million rands worth of electronic warfare systems to the US this year which is almost an R8 million incr3ase since last year. The current client list for our new milkor 380 UCAV keeps expanding with the EU also taking an interest in the possibility of purchasing up to 500. Saudi Arabia has already been authorised to receive 300 of them. South Africa is also the only country putside of germany that produces the assegai artillery ammunition for the EU. The assegai program was a joint venture between south africa and germany to produce a long range artillery shell capable of reaching up to 76 km which has been proven both in testing and on the battlefield by Ukrainians. Denel is on track to deliver R1.1 billion worth of assegai ammunition to the EU by the end of this year. As for our al tariq bomb kits more and more countries have started using them. CIA financed a rag tag so called army, the FNLA, backed by the useless Zairean military, a few worthless British mercenaries led by a lunatic Anglo-Cypriot murderer and the only capable fighting unit there, the Portuguese volunteers, who had experience in fighting the war in Angola since all were ex-Portuguese army veterans. However they were too few to make a difference. South Africa provided much needed heavy equipment, namely their famous howitzers, but suddenly they turned back and left, and why still puzzles me.

By 1987, South Africa decisively defeated Angolan and Cuban forces, tilting the conflict in favor of UNITA rebels. Concurrently, South Africa's gradual disengagement from its conflict with SWAPO to the East followed Russia's withdrawal of support for proxy wars due to its transformation into a Federation.

Different tools for somewhat different jobs. At 14 tons the G5 is,... chunky. this has always been one of its big problems. At a bit over 4 tons the M777 is positively svelte. You aren't ever going to sling a G5 under a helicopter for example.
Turkey for a few years produced a Gerry Bull derived L52 towed howitzer based on Singapore's version of the GC45/G5/GH-N-45 platform. Then they figured out _hey, this thing is freakin heavy. Lets just mount it on the back of a truck instead_ and stopped building the towed gun.

      Pretty ignorant to say that.
See how much tracked artillery or MLRS resupply you can sling under a helicopter or stow in an amphib assault ship...even better yet, see how long it takes to transport those ashore.
Compared to MLRS, let's see how much direct fire you can manage, or shift fire.
You sound like someone who reads a few books, saw a few YT videos, and played some games and calls that knowledge.
No, it doesn't deserve to be called pre-eminent, but still it's incredibly useful. If I were forced to choose to only have one type in inventory, it'd be towed over tracked or MLRS...better to have all three.
