That soft paint brush isn't going to do much cleaning. I'd be tempted to get them in a bowl of soapy water for a good wash inside and out then rinse and air dry. Then get them conditioned.
Snake oil....clean with a stiff brush, then wipe over with a damp cloth & use any good quality dubbin, leather balsam or even good old fashioned boot polish.
I've used the Armstrong kit on my Thorogood steel-toe, moc-toe for the past year. I've used it as needed... normally every other week. It darkens the leather severely My boots started cracking after about 10 months I switched over to Redwing's neatsfoot oil and they haven't looked better for months. In addition the Armstrong conditioner seems like spreading chapstick on with your fingers... it's difficult and tedious to apply, but for the $50 price and effort I felt assured this would pay off. It didn't and my boots are ruined
I t looks like you just put that goop on over the dirt? Why not scrub first with saddle soap/wipe off and really clean that dirt off the boots? Then some mink oil or leather conditioner and a bit of polish? Nice close ups...of your face. How about close ups of the boots next time?
Good video....one question ...why would you not wash the boots first with some saddle soap ? they were so messed up and u put on the conditioner without cleaning them well ??
my boots get dirty every day. usually concrete and drywall dust, maybe some mud/dirt. rinse them off every day. saddle soap and grease maybe once a week. I usually spend as much in product over the life of the boots as they cost.
Idk Seems like the dirt is all still there , just blended in Only in my opinion, a little soap and water , let dry with a heavy layer of mink oil , heated with a blow dryer , or even a little 5w20 synthetic motor oil if you have no mink oil Will do better
he's an artist. He uses a painter's brush to clean the boots. and the fetish like treatment: he's probably high on those lemon and orange scented products just as well. its like a big window into who he is :)
It's not just a window. But, an infinite void. you should see my other videos where I don't wear pants and clean boots are you interested? Check me out on pornhub same name.
So you don't clean the dirt off with soap and water first? Just dry wipe then the kit conditioners ? Wondering the proper steps I have some dirty boots that need restored.
I know this might not be ur dept but u did mention something about the soles barely wearing and them being even. I’ve had my 2406 for 2 years and they’re worn sideways as hell. Any way to fix that? Or my posture? Or am I just screwed?
You probably actually work your boots Vs all the light duty workers that take 4 yrs and more to wear those boots out , hell seen one comment saying his work boots went 10 yrs lol lol
I have those exact boot I love them..I've had them for 2 years now and only used mink oil on them once back in October of last year. But now they are absorbing water.. I use them in the snow and I work outside.. will the Armstrong product help repel water?
clean and dry leather must be at least warm. personally i am slightly heating my shoe and applying the conditioner, deep penetration means sufficient oil on the leather.
Can I use the same aplacator brush for saddle soap, conditioning oil and polish? Also I used a horsehair brush after conditioning and it pretend much ruined the brush. Should I rinse out the brush?
Just bought a pair of Danners 6" Moc Toes a couple weeks ago; how often to clean like this? I use Cadillac Boot Leather lotion to polish and protect and Angelus Easy Cleaner. A cleaning regimen of twice a year? Great videos as always!
MesYang88 He must have changed it or something because there were about 4-5 commercials in this video. I just rewatched it and didn’t see any TH-cam monetization ads so I’m guessing they’ve been removed. 🤷🏻♂️
Nice but what about reverse restoration, stripping boots that have had too much mink oil and polish applied? Renomat is the usual weapon of choice but turned out not strong enough.
TheBootGuy if you buy a bottle of scotch like Laphroaig or Ardbeg or any other type I've seen they come in an outer box and inside is a tube that looks a lot like what that came in.
My oldest red wings are alil over 20 yrs old there the #595 chukkas i have many other #595's but thats my fav to ware, i like georgia boots imo there soles last along long time for me anyways..i live right next to the usa/mexico border and we have two big state prisons in the valley and all of people are employed as custom agents or a border patrol agents, then the correctional officers who work at the state prisons out here in the valley they all ware black danner boots with the military boot look, alot of them dont like wareing them but they do get use to them but thats what they have to ware on the job just shareing to all who ware leather boot footware.
Can you try doing same video twice one with talking and other no talking and only demo/action witg some nice bgm ? And see which gets more view and like ?
How was this restoration?! This was not even cleaning. Paint brushes aren't strong enough to get all the dust off. Slathering the conditioner probably just dug the dirt into the leather and the amount of abrasion with the buffing. Might as well have dipped these boots in oil.
I would never apply wax to my car unless it was thoroughly cleaned, same principle with boots my man, scrub the heck out of those before you wax or oil.
Change title to "how to clean boots" ...a boot restoration means complete overhaul. New soles, repaired interior cloths, stitch extraction and repair... not: "Wipe on oil and wait 30 minutes"
I agree with most comments here. To call this is restoration is insane. You have done a disservice to your friend. Leave the boot cleaning and restoration to those in the know as this is absolutely ridiculous. And you call yourself The Boot Guy? Go figure@!:(
Dude...that’s a ton of grumpy comments 🤣🙄. Yeah, you should have saddle soaped em’....we get it. I thought your millennial viewers were all about peace and patience???? 🤣.
....they're WORK boots. You work in them. Why in the hell clean them up and oil them...they're just going to get filthy again Monday. I don't wear work boots to be fashionable, I wear them because they're a required part of the outfit. Steel-toed work boots. They get scuffed, cut, dirty, wet, grimy...they're WORK BOOTS! I guarentee no steel workers, no construction workers, welders etc....shine/oil their boots. I have NEVER met a single one who does, or has. You wear the boots until they're unserviceable, then you buy a new pair. Let me reiterate, THEY'RE WORK BOOTS.

You forgot the inhale pause.
That soft paint brush isn't going to do much cleaning. I'd be tempted to get them in a bowl of soapy water for a good wash inside and out then rinse and air dry. Then get them conditioned.
The amount of adds on this video are cancerous.
too fucking many, that was god damn ridiculous
Ads can be put in manually by the youtubers. Very annoying.
Scroll video all the way to end the hit replay. Multiple ads either go away or only 1 shows. I do this for all videos with more than 1 ad
Just a regular clean-up. No restoration here.
Snake oil....clean with a stiff brush, then wipe over with a damp cloth & use any good quality dubbin, leather balsam or even good old fashioned boot polish.

It didn't and my boots are ruined
For some reason I found Brian's channel more entertaining
These are my favorite boots they will last at least ten years
I can work 10 hours a day AND go for a two mile run in the same boots
I t looks like you just put that goop on over the dirt? Why not scrub first with saddle soap/wipe off and really clean that dirt off the boots? Then some mink oil or leather conditioner and a bit of polish? Nice close ups...of your face. How about close ups of the boots next time?
camaro Carl Well said.
Totally correct, you need to clean the boot first, saddle soap is best but regular will do
Wow what a difference they'll last another ten years now I bet he'll want them back now seeing how good they turned out
Good video....one question ...why would you not wash the boots first with some saddle soap ? they were so messed up and u put on the conditioner without cleaning them well ??
Mumbai New Yorker
Totaly agree.
Mumbai New Yorker that's why i checked comments...i was wondering about all the dirt.
i think they were too far gone, and he just wanted to make a video in a couple of hours
I think he was trying to focus on the armstrong kit. Showing what you could do with it. Still.. i see what you mean.
+Randy Torres and Woody. Using saddle soap properly demands its own video.
my boots get dirty every day. usually concrete and drywall dust, maybe some mud/dirt. rinse them off every day. saddle soap and grease maybe once a week. I usually spend as much in product over the life of the boots as they cost.
You wear redwings? You can take them to any redwing and they should clean them for free and oil
Idk
Seems like the dirt is all still there , just blended in
Only in my opinion, a little soap and water , let dry with a heavy layer of mink oil , heated with a blow dryer , or even a little 5w20 synthetic motor oil if you have no mink oil
Will do better
Restoration? You just put oil on them and they look wet now.
he's an artist. He uses a painter's brush to clean the boots. and the fetish like treatment: he's probably high on those lemon and orange scented products just as well. its like a big window into who he is :)
@@techorixOkay I'm done with the internet for today
It's not just a window. But, an infinite void. you should see my other videos where I don't wear pants and clean boots are you interested? Check me out on pornhub same name.
Lots of life in those dogs, look brand new compared to my properly loved 608’s
Wow, that stuff is like magic! I might have to pick some up sooner or later.
So you don't clean the dirt off with soap and water first? Just dry wipe then the kit conditioners ? Wondering the proper steps I have some dirty boots that need restored.
“Now run home and get your shine box!”
🤣🤣🤣
Thanks for reminding me to clean my boots great video

Vs all the light duty workers that take 4 yrs and more to wear those boots out , hell seen one comment saying his work boots went 10 yrs lol lol
A great job! There's something very satisfying and therapeutic about treating and polishing boots!

I have those exact boot I love them..I've had them for 2 years now and only used mink oil on them once back in October of last year. But now they are absorbing water.. I use them in the snow and I work outside.. will the Armstrong product help repel water?
....But you didn't actually clean them........
What else is there to do?
I would love you to do a a review on the redwing 3555 pull on boots
clean and dry leather must be at least warm. personally i am slightly heating my shoe and applying the conditioner, deep penetration means sufficient oil on the leather.
You should have give it a wash first with saddle soap before putting the conditioner on it.
With dish soap or something, right. I mean saddle soap isn't even a true soap.
Can I use the same aplacator brush for saddle soap, conditioning oil and polish? Also I used a horsehair brush after conditioning and it pretend much ruined the brush. Should I rinse out the brush?
First question: no, you should have different brushes for wax and oil. Second question: no, never wash your brushes.
Well done!
I like the used looking..
What's the difference between boot shine and something like clear polish?
More boots. Less your face.
+Marko Kostic come on, you know you love it.
A great tip and a good way to take care of boots
Just bought a pair of Danners 6" Moc Toes a couple weeks ago; how often to clean like this? I use Cadillac Boot Leather lotion to polish and protect and Angelus Easy Cleaner. A cleaning regimen of twice a year?
Great videos as always!
I would say once or twice a month If you working in them, once every 3 months for a casul boot
The cleaner they used was called zep
Too much bla bla bbla.. moving to a real RESTORATION video.
So this product darkens the color of your leather majorly ?, GOT IT
Would Armstrong work with Iron Ranger rough out Boots
man, you look like jim root now 😁👍
+muttech I take that as a compliment. Now if I could play like him!
Nice package
Cool video, but 4-5 ads for a 13 minute video is absolutely ridiculous.
MesYang88 He must have changed it or something because there were about 4-5 commercials in this video. I just rewatched it and didn’t see any TH-cam monetization ads so I’m guessing they’ve been removed. 🤷🏻♂️
what is on the wall behind you? Is it used as sound dampening?
Ya, tons of tread... Boots are fine.
+C Mill agreed.
Isn’t restoration doing soles and everything you just shined them boring !!!!!!!
WTF! Why didn't you show the boots at the end of the video?
Can I use the same aplacator brush for saddle soap and conditioner?
+joe guest definitely
If you are using a conditioner that is safe on your hands, just use your hands to apply.
Nice but what about reverse restoration, stripping boots that have had too much mink oil and polish applied? Renomat is the usual weapon of choice but turned out not strong enough.
Dude, you should have hit those boots with saddle soap before doing anything else.
he was sponsored by the boot kit He wanted to only use the contents of the kit. I wouldn't blame him. Gotta make money.
Sorry not much creedance given your title the boot guy the way you didn't prepare them with a proper cleaning before all else
He just sealed in all that nasty dirt into the leather. If you have boots that look like that or even nicer than that DO NOT follow this video.
Omg boot shine... who wants casual walking shoes that shine like ball room shoes.... just use red wing leather cream.
Were these better than Redwing's own products?
Do you want your boots back Josh? LOL.
Does that Armstrong stuff come in a Scotch tin?
Whats a scotch tin?
TheBootGuy if you buy a bottle of scotch like Laphroaig or Ardbeg or any other type I've seen they come in an outer box and inside is a tube that looks a lot like what that came in.
Gotcha! The tube is more like a plans tube [ 2.5-3" x 10" ] round not big enough for a bottle of scotch.
Nice restoration!!
Couldn’t see the detail of the finish because it was too dark against the white background.
Why so many ads.. it kills the vid.
Really, many adds ran?
TheBootGuy 4 ads, I get one or 2 but 4?

U named ur video 'restoration' !!!!! what kind of restoration it was !!!!!
Trendy kit
Go back to world of Warcraft.
Go back to your mom's basement
Los podrías subtitular en español
Not worth it.The soles were worn as well as the leather. BTW. Get your beard trimmed.
Why would you not wash the boots first.? Am I stupid. ?
Wow - that tube costs $50. Some scented mink oil, boot black and two brushes shouldn’t be that expensive.
I bet using baby oil would do the same shit.
Nothing for the interior of the boot??
Você fala demais!!!
How much did armstrong natural payed you for this ad?
👎 👎 for not washing the boot before anything
What about some shoe sope first.
Soap?........
dude you only showed the top of the boots
I would never apply wax to my car unless it was thoroughly cleaned, same principle with boots my man, scrub the heck out of those before you wax or oil.

You clean them up from time to time not to make them look nice if they are a work boot, but to make them last longer.
I used to roll like that, I take better care of them nowadays.
Sponsored much?
is it really a restoration if you dont wash it?

Red wings suck
Thank you for your opinion.
Thorogood are good boots
I would have first saddle soaped those bad boys before conditioning them they are yucky lol
Not restore at all
