My father was, towards the end of his career, in high ranking positions... and towards the end of his life he was part of the board for a large multinational corporation (he was a C?O). I still remember his burning distaste for the CEO and CFO, seeing them as incredibly incompetent AND short sighted. Pretty sure the stress of having to answer directly to the moronic CFO ( a *really* stupid hierarchy btw, he should have been directly under the CEO or at worst the COO, but whatever) is what precipitated his sudden passing. The corporation didn't do too well afterwards btw...
It’s sad how Disney was actually once considered a dominant force in the movie industry. And that’s not me being “too old” or anything. Disney movies back then were very much still for children. Yet they carried a certain… spirit… to them that made them a cut above the rest. Nowadays, their recent movies don’t even compare to their older ones. Companies treat children like they don’t know any better. If there’s any reason why Gen Alpha is the way they are, it’s because of companies not understanding what children want. Children know what things like death and sorrow are. They understand basic human emotion, or serious moments in a piece of media. They’re just being limited and treated like they don’t know anything. And thus, they don’t learn anything and are limited by everything as a result. Sad to think that these companies that once brought memories are reducing themselves to little more than a former husk based on the assumption that children shouldn’t be seeing darker topics despite understanding said topics. Even if it’s “because they'll be sad” or something, yeah. No shit. That applies to anyone. Even adults. That’s how human emotion works, unless you’re one of those people who like dark moments. Of course they’ll be sad.
Hey, Disney Movies used to be INFAMOUS for making people feel Sad, and Yknow, Inside Out had that message About Sadness, "Your Sad BECAUSE You Care", Now there modern movies on the other hand are a different kind of "Sad", The kind of Sad that makes you fell Absolutely Nothing, if best, Make You Uncomfortable, Or is that called Apathy 😕
The wild robot was one of the most spectacular recent animated children movies that I haven’t seen in quite some time. It’s such a shame that it’s such an underrated movie since it demonstrated the keys of providing a good film, such as the plot, the characters personality, the way they develop and change through tough situations and new scenarios. Hence why it’s received so much praise, but of course. The movie wasn’t made by Disney. Which is why it’s disappointing to see that people will only watch animated films UNLESS it’s made by Disney.
Air bud 5 was a hit 😂 Disney has always had stinkers. I remember liking rocketman...it's absolutely garbage, and even racist. Disney has always been hit or miss but it's easy to think they're the best when you only think of your favorites

This is identical to head coaches in college football and nfl. He has an existing relationship with Disney, since EA had the exclusivity license. So he's probably personal acquaintances with the board, and has been preparing for this and giving board members promises. Don't count on them to vote for what's best for the company. You have to give some slack to writing credits. 90% of the time the writer submits or sells a script and the studio butchers it. The only time a script makes it all the way through is if the director is big enough to protect it.
Just like Deadpool. Ryan Reynolds had to beg Disney not to make it a political push and instead keep it loyal to the fans. Only cos he was big was he able to do so, and thousands of other writers definitely get turned down if the protagonist is not a black lesbian with a Mohawk tryna save her girlfriend from a white straight male.
That's a cope, plenty of times the writer's ideas weren't any good in the first place. There's just no room for competent people in Hollywood, if they're lucky they'll get to direct a couple mid-budget horror movies but anything bigger than that will ONLY hire idiots.

Not coming as a shock I’m sure. But After getting my MBA I truly learned at how business majors are indoctrinated into money first / shareholders first. Product, customer satisfaction means nothing. It’s all about the money and the shareholders.
You can thank the Dodge Brother and the US Supreme Court for that. When Henry Ford suggest as part of his worker compensation to give salary bonuses to workers for every successful business year, the Dodge Brothers sued Ford for breach of contract arguing that by doing so he was breaching the contract that assures shareholder benefits. The US Supreme Court sided with the Dodge Brothers and became an accepted practice afterwards in the US car industry...

5:18 Yeah, I will give Andrew Wilson credit for that. But also Vince Zampella as well. For those who don't know, EA recently stated a few months back that they're giving their developers a lot more leniency on what game engines they can use for their projects instead of just using Frostbite for everything. I think this was pretty much thanks to Vince Zampella and the Respawn team using engines like Source and Unreal Engine for their projects and those projects ended up making EA lots of concurrent revenue. Plus this is also great in the hiring and development process so it will easier to get people who knows the level editor or scripting systems to prototype features or games out much quicker.

Disney was successful enough to pivot away from caring about making good art since Michael Eisner took over in the 80's. The Disney board selecting a CEO internally among CEO's they know just underlines that they care more about creating commodities that make money than they do creating anything worthwhile
90s disney was peak though. Lion King, Hocus Pocus, Jungle Book, Pochahontas, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Mighty Ducks and the best of them all, Cool Runnings was a Disney production.
Honestly the problems Eisner caused weren't exactly so prominent until after the nineties. And before Eisner took over Disney was making many mistakes, i think that is something that should be clear

well considering they keep injecting all that gay shit into their movies that nobody wants to see, and they said its the fans fault for not liking the new content and that fans need to learn to accept new content and change their taste in movies. they 100% know that this guy is bad and are just circle jerking themselves by hiring him as CEO.
@@moviemaker2011z who is we? I’m gay and I like gay contents, not Disney one though, I give you that. You know why? Cause Disney doesn’t care about us they just want our money. Same for anyone. So they think putting a kiss scene between two women that can be easily removed for the more conservative countries will be enough. Spoiler: it’s not. No one is happy with this shit cause Disney takes his consumers for idiots. It’s purely cash grab to milk the money of their queer westerner fans. It doesn’t come from the heart or a real place to represent us. Also Bob Iger literally said to stop with the political shit (yeah cause you apparently a political entity when you are gay) so I really don’t know wtf are you talking about. And with Donald Trump as president you will not have to worry about that anymore cause Disney is going to do what every corporation is doing: pleasing the people where the power and money resides, in this case, conservatives. Cause at the end Disney is soulless and doesn’t have any morals.
I'll tell you why. Some company crashing is done on purpose. I witnessed it once. They hired a guy, who drove it to the ground, and said "market challenges" in court. And it worked. The company bought itself back cheaply.
It happens all the time actually, I have seen it myself. Shareholders seeking short term profit have people to gut the company hired in. It even happens at very successful massive global companies with thousands of people if those at top in charge decide it. I mean I doubt that's what Disney is trying to do here, but I have seen people get put in charge to intentionally tear the company down, it's wild
The whole failing upwards thing I swear is some kind of freaking conspiracy, like it's from people who want these companies to flounder and fail, like would it kill these out of touch executives for once to actually make a positive change for their board of directors let alone appointing a new CEO. For Disney shareholders were never the answer making good products and services are, cause dude the amount of stinkers Disney crapped out is embarrassing for any company given especially how much they bombed as consistently, I'm still mad at them for ruining Lucasfilm, I will never forgive them for that.
there's a precedent for the best CEOs being the ones that were promoted internally like the Amazon CEO or the Microsoft CEO. i don't understand why they think hiring some rando from another industry would be good.
Not a conspiracy exactly, just part of a not very secret plan to continue separating the 1% from the 99%. That whole "work your way to the top" thing is a myth so you'll give more of your life and time to soulless corporations for pizza parties. Because the wealthy don't care about you and DEFINITELY do not want to see you succeed.
@@crediblesalamander8056 exactly man, it would be better just to hire people within their own company, Bob Iger just wants to retire for good, he tried that when he brought on Bob Chapkek to replace him, Chapkek made Disney worse than what it is that the board fired him and came crawling back to Iger begging for him to comeback and reluctantly took on his old job. I'm not sure if the EA CEO will get the job at Disney, Iger doesn't agree with it, but the board does, Iger is definitely going to have a talk with the board.
Charlie is delusional. He thinks Disney needs to hire people with ideas and personality lol. They need soulless suits to keep the money brewing, not risk-taking and creativity. All these big companies are basically banks nowadays, movies and games are just fronts to justify expenses to the IRS.

They release a good game every now and then, but I guess that's mostly by accident at this point. "It Takes 2" was pretty well-received a few years ago.
Mirrors Edge Catalyst was pretty good. Writing was a bit cringe sometimes but everything else was good. I dont even think it was a microtransaction hell. Maybe im wrong about that last bit though.
I mean they've had some good games like the Jedi series, Mirror's Edge, A Way Out and It Takes Two, Titanfall, but I would mainly put that on the developers who are unfortunately under the EA name.
Failing upwards is about “vibe”, think of how many people get turned away from jobs they are overqualified for because one of the other interviewees had “the right energy” and no qualifications or experience
Yes, that's how the upper level of capitalism works. How often do you see someone random get promoted to CEO? It's pretty much just a system of previous CEOs/CFOs/COOs/whatever going from company to company.
All executives have an unspoken 'no-accountability' rule. They all prop each other up and ignore massive failures that should have been career ending, because they know they could be next.
I am one of the many with Star Wars fatigue. I used to be all over it but it feels like there's a new Star Wars thing every five minutes and I can't bring myself to care anymore.
I like to think that the problem is that shareholders basically decide who lives and dies, so companies try to appeal to them so that they don't either die or take serious damage to their bank accounts.
Ah yes, cause running a company that makes video games is the same as running a company that makes movies and TV shows. The exact same skillset of course, I remember taking the C++ course that teaches me cinematography.

We’ve happened upon the point on our timeline where big companies can’t find a way to make an original idea come to life in a good way. Mainly because people are getting tired of it. The big companies right now became popular way back in the day due to original ideas and innovative film making and video game design. Now… everyone has that. They still need to make money but are out of ideas because they’ve already produced pretty much every style of product they could make due to their own genre. They’re going to fail eventually. Disney stays afloat because of children movie popularity, and buying out other companies like marvel and including Hulu in their services now. That’s it! Everywhere is completely out of ideas and can’t possibly make anything original. And it’s mainly because they refuse the new creators of our time. They just stick to whatever they’ve been doing for shareholders. Because they definitely don’t wanna make them mad. Trying something new for their company and going waaayyyy out there is what needs to happen. Maybe a taste, and if it sticks, then a complete overhaul. Especially to companies like EA. They need to allow new talent into their doors and give them full freedom to do what they want. Break the norm.

But because she’s the head of Lucasfilm, and Lucasfilm just happens to release a couple subpar products, she’s suddenly persona non grata.

they have annual friendship reunions and a contest to decide who the public hates more. the winner gets a badge that says "america's most annoying asshole"
Bingo. They sit on each others boards as “independent” directors.
This isn't news and isn't a probability problem. They're all well connected in similar if not specific elite social circles that the public aren't aware of obviously 😂 but what do we know? They're the ones ruling the world 'outside' of politics.
Exactly. And people wonder why there are initiatives to get other groups of people into the field, and it's BECAUSE OF THIS. Mediocre people like Andrew keep getting massive positions, while people wag the finger at newcomers who don't look like people like Andrew.

You have to give some slack to writing credits. 90% of the time the writer submits or sells a script and the studio butchers it. The only time a script makes it all the way through is if the director is big enough to protect it.

It’s obviously because he keeps one of those fucked up little goblin snake men in his home. He’s drawing power from it or something.
8:57 its probably because he's the cheapest option or whoever is running disney is dumber than we thought
EA is suffering right now.
Battlefield is dead, Apex is being killed, Fifa/FC is falling off, and their biggest money maker Sims is going mobile
Lmao sims isn’t “going mobile” they’ve had mobile off shoots for years.
I mean, Failguard is EA, no?
Sims is also probably going to get overshadowed by the new Sims like game InZOI tbh
ironicly when it comes to the sims, they currently decided for now that the sims 4 is where they are stopping because they want to milk that cow until it bleads.
@@OrangeyTangerine Let's Wait and see. I'm personally looking forward to that game.
ALL like 100% of what companies care about anymore is the shareholders and NOTHING else.
when you're 60 minutes into Cars and Mater runs out of gas, and a pop asks for $1 to fill his tank, you're not really price sensitive at that point
You would probably just stop it sooner or later, either quitting after the movie or when you realize those $1 payments are adding up.
1:11 Kathleen Kennedy
People like to bitch and moan about Kathleen, while at the same time ignoring that she was the producer and executive producer for every Back to the Future movie, Gremlins, Twister, every Jurassic Park movie, The Sixth Sense, E.T., Poltergeist, Every Indiana Jones movie, The Land Before Time, and a bunch of other stuff. But because she’s the head of Lucasfilm, and Lucasfilm just happens to release a couple subpar products, she’s suddenly persona non grata.
People can only tolerate so many garbage movies@@thehunterjk2521
@ be careful don’t get to far up her arse.
@ all great movies, I would say that the writers, actors and directors were responsible for how great they were but that’s not the point. She’s been failing up hill for over a decade now. With a franchise that if done right would’ve been a gold mine. She’s not 100% to blame, but to say it’s nothing to worth mentioning is wild.
@@thehunterjk2521
Under her watch, Disney still hasn't made a profit from the Star Wars' IP (imagine that), she’s that incompetent and there’s no defending it, you product of siblings
Ngl, WB needs a new CEO.
