Sophie is one of the few GenZ that get it, maybe they should all have to go there and see just the sheer number of UK men and some women that gave their lives for the freedoms they don't just take for granted, but actively ABUSE.
Doing that would actually be a GOOD use of taxpayers money.

Indeed but ironic that people who tune into GBN regularly and support Right-Wing political influencers such as Nigel Farage would want an open and welcoming society of multiculturalism to be abolished when it was that those war veterans sacrificed their lives for.

Regrettably we've now had 330,000 small rubber boats arrive with "opportunists"
( Parasites instead of Paratroopers - Infesting rather than Liberating Europe )
I was at THIS actual site (RANVILLE) exactly 40-yrs ago, so I know the sacrifice
I also know of 'Massey Shaw' & 'The Medway Queen' & those they lifted from Dk
Those men made great sacrifices & TWO of my direct family fought the Germans
      ( B.E.F > Greece > CRETE > North Africa (Libya, Tunis) & Italy (8th Army, both)
Angers me that MY nation has been 'given away' so cheaply in recent years

They didn't "sacrifice themselves for the UK". Their countries were at war as well and they simply did what was required of them to protect their homelands. How many from those nations were involved in the Battle of Britain? How many Nigerians or Ghanaians sat in a Spifire of Hurricane and rode fire from the Luftwaffe? They weren't defending or fighting for the UK. They were fighting for their own countries, as was everyone on the side of the Allies.

WW2 is taught in schools … this is the national curriculum
challenges for Britain, Europe and the wider world 1901 to the present day
In addition to studying the Holocaust, this could include:
      (Examples)
      women’s suffrage
the First World War and the Peace Settlement
the inter-war years: the Great Depression and the rise of dictators
the Second World War and the wartime leadership of Winston Churchill
the creation of the welfare state
Indian independence and end of Empire
social, cultural and technological change in post-war British society
Britain’s place in the world since 1945

Hopeful in that because of people like you Sophie, we can be assured that this is never forgotten and will continue with pride long after the veterans are gone. Never apologise for feeling, it does you credit. Well done Sophie. From an old 30 year veteran x

As an American, I so appreciate the sacrifice the men of the allies did on that day. It is refreshing, and touching, to see a young woman get emotional over what it means to her. I wish our countries would remember the sacrifices people have made in the name of freedom

At Victoria railway terminus, SW1 on the Saturday of a march down Pall Mall, remembering so vividly the veterans milling around before going off to celebrations for the 50th anniversary of D-Day in 1994. Now, of course, such a march would be impossible.

You do know many Indians, Nigerians, Ghanians, West Indians also fought for the UK and sacrificed their lives for us. Yet sometimes i notice a high level of disrespect to people from the commonwealth in the UK. Even African Americans sacrificed themself for us, i know grandparents where helped by 2 African American gentlemen very nice and respectful they where. We have to respect the people who helped us aswell.

God bless all these young people who gave thier lives to secure the freedom of Europe and basically the world. What an amazing and really sad thing this is. These people lost all of thier many years to free people they never knew. They were so very young --- I am so moved once again. God bless and rest their souls. As Lincoln said I believe "laid upon the alter of freedom..."
