Because the speed is lower under the object and thereby higher static pressure. Above the object it is lower pressure and higher speed. Increase speed, decrease pressure and vice versa.
Exactly as Joakim says. Remember Ptotal is always constant and Ptotal = Pdynamic + Pstatic. So if one goes up the other has to go down to balance it out. The faster flowing over the top means that Pdynamic goes up, so Pstatic must go down and this "Lifts" us into the air.

total pressure = static pressure (increasing with molecule density) + dynamic pressure (increases with faster flowing molecules).
