This song has a different meaning to me. I have a son with Autism, who maybe doesn't quite fit into the "normal" world but is perfect in my eyes. Sometimes I just want to be in his world with him and forget the rest of the world.
my sons on the spectrum he is high functioning but emotionally not so and girl i get you he can go from loving life to why was i born i hate the world over something as simple as stubbing his toe
When my dad was dying in a hospice, I didn't want to have any regrets. I sat next to his bed, just me, and him. I held his hand, and told him exactly why I loved him. This song always reminds me of that moment. Always breaks my heart.
I actually started crying while reading this, and boy, it’s not often that I cry. I could have never imagined your pain as you went through that🥺 and yes this song is very sad but beautiful. So sorry for your loss. Stay strong angel💔 he’s in a better place now.
I don't know why, I honestly don't know why, but the chorus of this song always makes me tear up a little or gives me literal goosebumps. From "If I lay here". I do not know why it does this.
If I remember correctly, I think it's about wanting a relationship with someone you can't be with, for whatever reason. The title comes from a conversation the leader singer had with his father regarding his situation. His dad said. "You're like a dog chasing a car, you wouldn't know what to do with it if you caught it".
This brings me to tears every time. An AMAZING young man died from cancer and this was played at his funeral. Such a loss. He was SO lovely. I ran the London Marathon in his honour.
I know exactly how you feel. My uncle died of cancer as well and they played this to a video of his life at his funeral. It was his and my cousins favorite song. It hits so hard everytime
I've been trying different songs in the car for potential karaoke and wound up choking up for some reason when I attempted it. He's one of the best singers I've ever heard. It hits you right in the feels.
What I love so much about Gary’s vocals are that you can hear his Northern Irish accent. Two others of theirs I love are Chocolate and You Are All That I Have.
When this song came out it was one of the best I had heard for a long time, and it’s still up there fantastic song and fantastic voice. Again thanks Jay 🇬🇧
TBH the message is so deep in this song is so powerful that when I first heard it I was literally in tears and the first time I saw video l was in even more tears for some strange reason it always makes me think of my late brother (21 years since he passed)
Please react to Robert Miles “children” he was an Italian DJ and this is one of best songs of the 90s even though there isn’t any singing the beat is unreal
This is one of very. very few songs that I think is in a category of its own because everyone has heard it - not just because it was played to death on radio at the time, but because it has continued to be played to death since as an absolute destroyer of a song. And it has earned its place as a heart destroyer too. This is incredible in every way.
I went to see Snow Patrol at the Isle of Wight Festival. They were amazing! When they performed Chasing Cars 60,000 people started singing along with them, and Gary Lightbody (Lead Singer) stopped singing and cried, he was blown away that a song he had written was being sung back to him.
"All that I am, all that I ever was, is here in your perfect eyes, they're all i can see" Wonderful lyrics. they have song after song. each better than the last one.
Fun fact :this was the last song to be performed on the much loved and missed British music television show Top of the Pops , which had a continual run of over 42 years!
One of my favourite bands. Been listening to them for years and they never let me down. "Run", "Chocolate", Don't give in", "New York", "Open your eyes" are all amazing.
This song was HUGE when it was released, check out run by them too, a really meaningful song. On a side note, you need to listen to the unedited version of this song at least once
I've seen them live a few times now and they never disappoint. Plenty of great recommendations I see in the comments. They're one of those bands that even the album tracks that don't make it as singles are amazing.
This song to me describes how I feel when life gets to be too much. My husband doesn't have to do anything except be there. It's a joke with us. I'll ask if I can have 5 minutes of his valuable time. Just to lay next to me. It reminds me that we are in this together. It calms me.
To me it is simply about love. There are moments when you are with that someone special and the two of you are just together, breathing the same air, and feeling each others bodies next to you. Nothing else matters in those moments. Simple quiet love. That is what this song evokes in me :)
We Agree!!! I am in love with his Voice too!!!! When I first heard him on the radio...it took a month before I knew this group.....Snow Patrol?????? What????? I said.....I love this song. It is sooooooo deep!!!! Excellent Rock n' Roll band. Keane tears this song up!!! Check out "Run." Also a great song!!! I'm just in Love with this group!!!!
This song is inspired by the troubles in Northern Ireland, it's about defying systems of difference, and laying down together, it is my favourite song of theirs! Love it, thanks!
This is total nonsense not sure where you got this information but it’s totally not about the troubles. Gary Lightbody has said its a love song he wrote while in love and happy in a relationship. The phrase chasing cars came from Gary’s dad who told him “you’re like a dog chasing a car. You’ll never catch it and you wouldn’t know what to do with it if you did”.

“Don’t quite know, how to say, how I feel. Those three words. are says too much, they’re not enough.” So much meaning in a song! I take it as a love ballad. Someone he can “disappear“ with and forget the works for a while. Love it so much!
Their live versions of this song are always great; I enjoy watching them perform this one on the Bing Lounge. Their song "Run" is very powerful. I like how Gary Lightbody doesn't feel the need to rhyme all his lyrics.
Of all the James songs you could have picked?! James are my favourite group, and I love Sit Down, but it's not their best doing by any means. But nice one for suggesting James at all ❤️
I love this song, and Snow Patrol. Reacting to "Run" by this band would be so good. And, also please listen to "Run" by Leona Lewis (official video). It is wonderful. (and her live version, especially as she re- visits X Factor UK , is amazing )
To me the song is about a guy so in love that he can just forget the world around him and focus only on them, and he's asking if they feel the same way.
Javon, I never saw the video before and also never listened to the lyrics closely, but when it all comes together I think your analysis is spot on. The song has a sort of melancholic comfort to it. As a suggestion, if you like this style, try Mat Kearney "Closer To Love" and "Nothing Left To Lose."
You are correct, he said it was the purest love song he had ever written. This was the first dance at my wedding, although admittedly I think Run is their best song.
What this song does so well is just capture a specific feeling. It's one we've all had. Just the notion of being with someone, and doing nothing. The perfection of spending a moment with someone you love, doing nothing. That sounds simple, and maybe it is, but simple doesn't make it easy.

this is beautiful, im so sorry for your loss. you’re a great son❤️
My favorite Snow Patrol song is Run. Definitely worth a listen. This band is amazing!
It's my favourite as well. The band COLD does a brilliant cover.
Yes! Agreed!
Yep, I third that request.
👍👍👍Was on "Rescue Me" 👍👍👍
Their best song by far.
Some of the best lyrics ever. My favorite from the song, “All that I am, all that I ever was, is here in your perfect eyes, they’re all I can see.”
Just reading the lyrics set me off then😭
Beautiful song❤️
Agreed..
In my humble opinion this is just a pure love song, it's incredible.
That’s how I take it too!
Yup just about spending time with a friend/loved one. No "leaving the world" interpretation from me.
I don't know why, I honestly don't know why, but the chorus of this song always makes me tear up a little or gives me literal goosebumps. From "If I lay here". I do not know why it does this.
Really? Wow! The same for me!
Makes me cry like a baby, it always has and I hope it always will
Me too! 💙💚❤🧡💛
Ditto!💖💕
Possibly because of the atrocious grammar. It always makes me wince too.

Snow patrol was a major player in the alternative scene of the 00 it’s great stuff always love their singles love you
I absolutely love this song. Thank you so much for the review 💗
Yes, this is a good one. His voice is so strong but so clear. I like songs where you can easily hear all the words. Just great 👍🏻

"All that I am, all that I ever was, is here in your perfect eyes, they're all i can see"
Wonderful lyrics. they have song after song. each better than the last one.
Its a song that expresses true love when the word LOVE cannot express it!
😊
Great Irish band. Brings back amazingly good memories.
Greetings from Ireland. ☘☘☘
They are a British band not Irish, no Irish members at all.
@@georgebarnes8163 I think they're actually Irish-Scottish, with some of their members being from Northern Ireland.

A fitting finale, though. Imagine it had gone out on on Steve Brookstein or some shiz. 😳
Pretty sure they still make it

Love this song

I saw Snow Patrol at oxygen a few years ago, this song the whole crowd singing at the end of the night! Unforgettable night!
I literally just listened to this song like an hour ago while cleaning my kitchen! Snow patrol is so great!
Makes me happy and sad simultaneously and a voice to die for
RUN.... that song always gets me.... ALWAYS
Me too. I cry, every, time!
Last year this was named Most Played Song of the 21st Century on UK radio
👏
Wow! You're cranking out some great songs today Jayvaugh. 100k so close now.
Please try Set The Fire To The Third Bar by Snow Patrol. It brings tears to my eyes.
I think you'd love the production of it.
Love Set the Fire to the Third Bar. Highly underrated song.
My favourite snow patrol song
Yeah great song, New York is a beautiful one
Yes - set the fire to the third bar with Martha Wainwright
Yesssssd
Check out “Run,” “Shut Your Eyes,” “What If This Storm Ends,” “You Could Be Happy”
The extended version of 'Run' is better than the original version.
Grazed Knees is also a very underrated Snow Patrol song.
To me it is simply about love. There are moments when you are with that someone special and the two of you are just together, breathing the same air, and feeling each others bodies next to you. Nothing else matters in those moments. Simple quiet love. That is what this song evokes in me :)

Hi from the UK, if I am not mistaken this was their biggest hit , but they are awesome, fantastic band , 😊😊🤗🤗🤗🤩🤩🤩🤩 .
another deep song which many don't realize its meaning is "You're beautiful" by James Blunt
This song won "Song of Decade" most played back in time.
This is the most beautiful love song ever written.
Snow Patrol hasn't made a bad album. They took a long long hiatus and recently just came out with a new album. Still have the magic.
This is giving me Grey's Anatomy flashbacks.
Same with basically every song by The Fray
Yep
Some one always dies on greys when this song comes on :/
Yes! Me too!
Same!!!
I first fell in love with this song after hearing it on Grey's Anatomy, lol. Never had heard it before that. A beautiful song!
You're All I Have and Open Your Eyes should be next if you like Snow Patrol... This song got played to death but the two I mention are way better...
Agree 100%
@@apparently-nothing thank you!!!

A couple of years ago Gary Lightbody was a guest on our local radio station, and he sang this song live in an acoustic version. It was just as good
Absolute classic, voted song of The Noughties in the UK. Beautiful and utterly memorable.
And the festival circuit.
This song brings back primary school memories playing this on guitar
The song is about the world disappearing around them because all that matters to him is their love for each other
A lot of their songs are nice. This and Run are my personal favourites.
This band formed in Dundee in Scotland while studying at university here.
Omg, I have been waiting and waiting! You just heard one of my all time favorites of my whole life! Huge smile
