I like it. I don't need to be spoon fed a flashback with Tina sitting in a chair saying: "Do you remember that time when..." then you queue the piano music with a cross fade to a sepia tone filter. I kind of like being able figuring it out based on context and what you know about the characters.
I love how this explains in a way why Tina didn't like Sydney when they first met. She felt threatened. And how ironic that its directed by Ayo Edebiri herself. Also, fun fact: David Zayas, the actor that plays Tina's husband, is her husband in real life
Episode really brings to life what Carmy said in his monologue during S1 where Mikey could make anyone feel like he was their best friend. He just always knew how to dial a room. Crazy how one of my favorite characters has like 10 minutes of screen time each season--goes to show how well written Mikey was.
"There was one day I told him 'mikey you need to order napkins, we need fuckin napkins'. He said 'what's the point? we won't be able to pay em next month anyway" "sounds like that was his attitude about things" "no. i remember it because it wasn't."
This episode was especially touching. And it adds a whole new light to her character in the beginning of the series and how much she adored Mikey and was affected in her own way, which was why she hated the change Carmy and Syd were bringing. But look at her now. She’s trying to innovate in her cooking craft as she can through this season. She only wanted a routine. She became an ace at The Bear.
I just realized something in y’all’s discussion at the end, with Tina’s anxiety and this episode showing her desire for routine. No wonder she’s been having the issues with anxiety and not getting dishes correct when we’re used to her overall doing well. She went from her routine being adjusted somewhat but improving when Syd joined the Beef to literally not having a routine because the entire menu changes every dang day at the Bear.
Mike offering the job like that is old school how things were done. Reminds me of a story of my Dad my Mom told, how he's at the bank paying off an equipment loan for his custom bailing job. And the banker goes to him and says, "There is a piece of land for sale I think you should buy.' My dad is like, 'I can't buy land, I can't afford that.' And the local banker goes, yes you can. Just look what you did. You bought a tractor a bailer, and you paid it off faster than it was due. With this land you'll have even more income coming in and you know how to farm.' And that was it. My dad got a loan for the farm he had all his life and he paid it off twice (that is another story, don't go into business with family). What kind of banker today does that sort of thing? Same old school person to person stuff like Mikey and Tina there.
Something I noticed at the end of the episode. When she goes to sit down to eat the free sandwich at the beef. At that point she's completely sad and upset and maybe feeling hopeless. She takes that first bite of the beef sandwich and then starts sobbing. Then she has that life changing conversation with Mikey. After he offers her the job and goes back to work, Tina takes another bite of that sandwich, and then all of the sudden, the sandwich tastes AMAZING to her. It's the same sandwich but her mood had COMPLETELY changed. It's a very relatable feeling and moment. The way our mood can affect the things around us. Like how depression can make us not see or appreciate a good thing even when it's right in front of us.
This show hands down has some of the greatest dialogue I have ever seen. It is truly incredible how they can just have two people talking in the back of some shitty restaurant, or the 2nd episode that took place in the kitchen the whole run time and have me absolutely captivated the entire time, I've never quite seen a show nail dialogue in such an authentic and genuine way its masterful.
Change is a trip....meaning I had to move after 9 years because my landlord wanted to sell the place...found something, but its higher and smaller...but....still alive...even after getting hit by a dump truck in October.
It’s crazy it took sheera so long to notice the different hair style 😂😂😂 that’s literally how I knew it was a flashback. I knew they weren’t gonna jump like that and her hair be that long.
could be wrong, but at the end of the scene when Tina got fired from her job, there was a giant clock saying 11 9 18 under the actual time of day. So she got fired just after halloween season ( worked in a confectionary factory) and just before the christmas season ( the next best time to sell sweets and candies)
If they showed Tina's kid, they'd have to pay another actor on an episode where there are already a bunch of "couple of lines" extras. Saving that production budget monaaaaaay.
Probably my favorite episode of the season, for a lot of reasons. The main one being Tina's backstory and how she got to get involved with The Beef in the first place. Like others are saying, it adds a whole new dimension to her character before Syd came along.
This was my favorite episode of the season because of how relatable it was. I was also struggling to find a job earlier this year so I felt Tinas struggle.
This episode wrecked me! The struggle is so real. For sure next year when they announce Emmy nominations this show is going to get a whole bunch again for this season
This episodes shows why Tina is very Protective of Richie and Mikey as a whole, when Richie was tweaking in S1 she was the only one that gave him 100% truth outside.
i feel like the title “napkins” also calls back to the story about napkins tina was telling carmy in season 1. she noticed something was off with Michael when he stopped caring about their shortage of napkins one time.
Ngl, at my 31 years of age, this episode made me cry a lot... The fact that Tina's actor resembles a lot to my mom both physical and behavior wise... Plus the fact that my mom was laid off by her workplace in her late 40's as well makes me realize how f0ck't up she had it. Yet, she did not back up an ounce. I don't know, I did thought about that time before, but seeing the perfect representation of THAT TIME... *That's enough to make a man cry.*
Michael talking about how he felt like he was skipped in line shows so much more depth about his character. Makes everything that he’s done that much more believable, especially what he did in Fishes.
This is my favorite episode of the season!!!! Loved the Tina and Mikey scene. Mikey was a kind soul, it's very heartbreaking but also beautiful to know how kind he was. Fun Fact this episode was directed by Ayo.
I hired a gazillion people for a tech company. We would go through periods where a degree was required to other times we would stretch and remove that requirement. Just depends on market dynamics and the goals of the group you are hiring for.
I’m ngl, they were talking about cutting costs earlier in the show and I thought this episode was leading up to the bear firing Tina. I was gonna be upset lol
7:51 Lupasan: WTF is that- Roshi:(instant response) it’s the side of a building Us: Goodness your reaction and response was Goku ultra instinct… Also us: 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂🤣😂
I would agree with the lesser known actors take if it was season 1. These actors ain't really lesser known anymore, Jeremy Allen White was pretty well known when the show started
Kind of a silly thing to get upset about John Cena popping up when that Christmas dinner episode was full a freaking cameos Jamie Lee Curtis come on now and Jon Bernthal The Punisher Shane it's John Cena not Denzel Washington Harrison Ford
think it's also kind of sad that if you're famous enough you just can't act in stuff like this. like maybe john cena really likes the bear and being a part in this. who knows
I don’t think that bigger name actors ruin it cause not for nothing a lot of people in this show have or had other successful show Richie doing fantastic 4 Marcus being famous from loiter squad and wolf gang with Tyler the creator Camry from shameless for examples it’s just people are just used to them seeing the bear as a tv show and not a movie
Flashbacks giving us hands this season lmao
@@YaBoyRoshi They could’ve made it more obvious but Tina has shorter hair present day and she has longer hair right at the start of the flashback.
I like it. I don't need to be spoon fed a flashback with Tina sitting in a chair saying: "Do you remember that time when..." then you queue the piano music with a cross fade to a sepia tone filter. I kind of like being able figuring it out based on context and what you know about the characters.
I love y’all,,but it was kinda obvious 😂
Is cobra Kai episode 3 season 6 Tommorow
I love how this explains in a way why Tina didn't like Sydney when they first met. She felt threatened. And how ironic that its directed by Ayo Edebiri herself. Also, fun fact: David Zayas, the actor that plays Tina's husband, is her husband in real life
Damn....he lucked out!
Honestly love when they dedicate a whole episode to one character. Waiting for that Ebra one lol
They could do so much with that.
His flashback has nothing to do with food it’s just a straight up guerrilla war episode.
Ebra needs his own "Forks."

ayo edebiri really knocked it out of the park with her directorial debut.
i was so surprised when i saw her name pop up in the credits

Also Jon Bernthal bringing down the thunder in every episode he's in.
As a young person whos in the job market right now, this episode hurt man. Too real.
Stay encouraged. Things will break your way.
bro, as a not anymore young person in the job market right now, this episode hit too close to home.
Literally cried along with her. This market is trash even with education, experience, etc.
Crazy because even people with degrees and certification can’t even get a job. AI will literally replace us all.
I cried the whole episode 😅
"There was one day I told him 'mikey you need to order napkins, we need fuckin napkins'. He said 'what's the point? we won't be able to pay em next month anyway"
"sounds like that was his attitude about things"

“I don’t need to save the world, I just wanna feed my kid” bruh straight to the heart

Cheers for that
The scene where Tina first meets Mike was just ugh it was so heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time!
Makes that scene from season 1 hurt that much more: "You know I loved that kid..."
I just realized something in y’all’s discussion at the end, with Tina’s anxiety and this episode showing her desire for routine. Jon Bernthal is absolutely the lucky charm of The Bear, every episode he shows up in as Michael is one of the best episodes of the show!
Fun fact. The actor playing Tina's husband, is her irl husband
Her husband has a lot of La Pasion

Yeah the fact Ayo directed this episode just made this episode really fucking amazing!❤
Sydney (Ayo) really cooked with this episode. Excellent job chef~~

making a scene heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time is so outrageously impressive man
not the flashback we deserved but the flashback we needed

nah bro that “damn” 😐 12:15 from kevin hart really got me 💀 💀 💀
They showed the date written down at the beginning: 2018
I was watching this episode in my living room and my mom sat down with me to watch it. She fell in love with the show. Ayo did great!
This series feel SOO Real... I love it.
Thanks for this writers!!!! 🤩
Thank you for acknowledging the big name actor complaint. Jon Mulanay though i think worked for the scenes he was in.
Sheera’s face of disgust when Mikey mentioned the toilet 😂😂
the arcade saying "all time low" the instant she started crying really got me

Once the Bear is concluded, I would KILL for a prequel show with Mikey and Richie.
The actress who played Tina won an Emmy last night for this role 🏆✨️
In the beginning of the episode i swear there’s showed multiple calendars that said 2018 on them
They showed a calendar that said 2018 on it

Bro when Ebra’s episode comes around it’s gonna be just him being a Somali pirate back in his day💀
Liza Colón-Zayas should get a fucking Emmy for this show. I already loved her but this episode made my heart break for her.
I love how every scene we get with Mikey gives us hints about why he took himself out: the drugs, the lack of direction, the debt... Masterful
Ebro would’ve been at Pasta Planet if The Beef aint get a runback. 😂
Actor who played Tina’s husband is her real life husband.
We saw Tina's kid in season 1, he was at the restaurant after he got suspended from school. She was asking Carmy if he could work there.
One of my favorite episodes of the whole series.
Ayo directed this episode!
So accurate to how things are now. Especially with the homless crisis.
This is my favorite episode of the season!!!! Loved the Tina and Mikey scene. Mikey was a kind soul, it's very heartbreaking but also beautiful to know how kind he was. Fun Fact this episode was directed by Ayo.
greatest episode of the season. (also i didnt realize this was a flashback for a minute either 😂)
