    Rose, why do you say you're "not creative" like the community dieticians? Your whole channel is a very creative endeavor. Your videos are so fun, educational and REAL. (you aren't about promoting yourself into a media icon) I am including your links in my report for my career exploration course at community college.

    So as a Clinical Dietitian in a hospital now, how do you get the patient better? Do you have to balance their med so they can get the right nutrients? Or do you order certain foods from the hospital? I was under the impression that hospital food is not healthy.

    • @KimRoseDietitian
      @KimRoseDietitian  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi. I do a lot of education inpatient and outpatient. I would not say hospital food is not healthy. I have to do a full nutrient analysis on the food so I know it meets a certain percent of the patients RDA. I also use the foods as an example to the patients to encourage them to bake, grill, and steam and not fry.

    • @kathrynhoke4830

      It depends where you are located. I'll be honest with you paying the least for an optimal education is always the best. If I were you I would first search out the dietetic program I want to get into at a university. Then I would do some price comparisons and see if the pre-req classes are offered by a college and if these credits are transferable to the university I was looking I looked into. I wish you the best. MBA+ RD here you come :)

Could you do a full video of your clinical dietitian experience? Also, what places should I volunteer that relate to nutrition services? I currently volunteer at a hospital and involved in health clubs at my school. Thank you!Your videos are very helpful!

      That is awesome Nessa! I did a video on my clinical experience...please see my vid entitled the 'Good, Bad and Ugly of dietetics'...it's based on my clinical experience. It's good you volunteer at the hospital. See if you can help the dietitian there with any paper work, kitchen responsibilities, presentations etc...you have already set yourself up in the right direction.

    I attended a Dietetics taster day, one lady worked in a hospital Mon-Wed in the renal department, then has her Private practice Thur and Fri for weight management. Would you say this is both clinical and consultant? I like the sound of this balance she seemed to have, I think it would be a good route for me to go down.

      I am not sure how it is in Kenya. Does the county recognize dietitian as a professional title? For instance, in the United States someone is a doctor if they go to school and pass the board examinations for the profession. What is the process in Kenya to be considered a dietitian?

    • @KimRoseDietitian
      @KimRoseDietitian  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have created custom recommendations. It depends on a clients problem list and evidence based guidelines.. One size doesn’t fit all. The profession focuses on individualized nutrition

    • @KimRoseDietitian
      @KimRoseDietitian  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I ran into the same problem with a volunteer I had at my facility. There are 2 ways 2 get around this. #1 Volunteer DIRECTLY with the food service department. You may be required to do inventory, clean, monitor temps and logs, but dietetic internships understand this related to the HIPAA violations. #2 I had my student do office work for me. After giving her a run down on what I do, there were numerous powerpoint presentations, digestible data boards, health fair packets that I had her work on.

    • @KimRoseDietitian

      From my personal experience no. The profession is hands off. There was one conference, however, I attended where the dietitian inserted nasogastric tubes for her tube feeding patient. I thought that was interesting. Additionally I guess if you are a research dietitian you would be hands on with your lab animals. I have yet to encounter a research dietitian so this is all presupposition.

    Hey Kim I'm currently getting my Master's degree in Public Health along w/ Registration in Dietetics. I went into the program focusing on becoming a community dietitian but I am starting to feel I should be more of a clinical dietitian. Is there a huge difference in training between the clinical and community dietitians? Are dietitians able to be flexible in their careers; moving from a community setting to a setting that's clinical?

    • @KimRoseDietitian
      @KimRoseDietitian  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, from my experience you can be flexible and switch in between the two once you start working. Of course there are differences in the job responsibilities, but it is all a learning curve. Even though my internship was clinical I had no clue what i was doing until I actually started working.
