Best person to ask about this is Steve Lukather. He worked very closely with Bradshaw developing this bit of kit.
I don't know what the difference between the two is supposed to be, but to my ears ch 1 and 2 are exactly the same in both units: any tiny difference is compatible with pot and component tolerances. Ch 3 is radically different in its voicing, though. I hear more of a scooped tone out of the SE.

IMHO according to schematics there were two or three resistors changed if remember it correctly (need to look it) - on the other hand side you are right: most of the difference of amplifiers is generated by component tolerance - we could hear this at most with old Marshalls e.g. Soldanos designs are a good example as the SL60 isn't that different compared to the SLO100 lead circuit (but it is lacking the "clean" channel which does affect the first gain stage).
In an interview Bob Bradshaw states that the tube EQ at the end has been refined in the newer unit. It more like a resonance and presence circuit now. It helps one adjust for different power amps.
I used to have two 3+ same grey finish n same potentiometer.. they sound different the one with big yellow elco has more open n throaty uncompressed sound .. it's hurt if you hear it in front of speaker but it's real cut thru n has great sound in front of mic during recording session . The other one has more compressed sound.

Great comparison. You captured what the 3+ sounds like in the room. More mids across the board vs. the SE. What's the power amp in this video?
Hi Matt, we used the same Poweramp simulation from Torpedo Wall of Sound plugin.
Do they both have the same toroid power transforner? Cause the 3+s came with both the toroid and non-torroid. The 3+ SE's came only with toroids, unless they were modded. Apparently, the type of transformer installed had a great effect on the tone.

3+ crunch channel is way gainer, more compressed too...
do you generally run the eq? also have you heard of a CAA3+ ?
