Before painting, your body work needs a better approach. Sanding the surface to remove deep scratches, pits, and divots is not the way. I do like how you filled the two holes with epoxy. Have you thought of diamond drilling the indentations with a ball mandrel to widen the defect then filling with a hot solder fill, then sand or file that even to the surface and smooth. Additional finer grit sanding will bring the surface smooth as silk. This is in fact how automotive assembly plants repair body work when defects are found (and they look for them) before phosphate dip, prime paint, color coat(s), and clear coat(s) are applied. While you did wet sand the fist color coat, I think either the paint was too thick or was applied to thick resulting in that orange peel surface. Nonetheless, what on earth happened to the unrestored model in the first place?
