Swift Fox the first part is surprisingly accurate. Davros built it in an underground bunker and his people could be seen to have been low on resources as they’d been at war for a thousand years.

Scenes like this make me REALLY apriciate how scary the Daleks are.
Weeping angels are terrifying because it's creepy AND can kill you.
But Daleks are terrifying in the way that a tank is terrifying, or a nuke, or a plague.
They won't go away.
They can't be stopped.
And they HATE you.

"The weeping angels can kill you"? This is exactly why I DON'T fear them but rather revere them. The angels don't kill you... they send you back to a better time with a chance to begin anew in a world that doesn't know you AND with the extremely advantageous benefit of future knowledge. They provide you with a far greater starting point in life than you could've ever had... the weeping angels are loving gods moreso than cruel tyrants
Okay props to Chibnall here. I’m not a fan of this era of the show at all but it’s nice to see a dalek actually be threatening again for once.
True, Chibnall may not be a good showrunner, but it's ironic how good he writes the Daleks

Remember that one time when a Dalek was completely unable to do anything because the doctor threw a hat on his eye? Yeah those were old times.
I always figured that Daleks could sense everything around them and that was why they had such a small field of view: because they didn't need one. Apparently not, given that if you avoid that field of view you can literally stand right next to one and it won't notice you. Which is amazing given how this race was supposed to be one of the most dangerous in the universe.
@@davidliu4134 i think their danger comes from both their tech and how their enemies fight them, most enemies wear big, flashy armor and tech, allowing daleks to easily just fire and forget, theres very little tactics from both themselves and the enemies they face, humans are weak physically, but that lack of strength is made up for in subtlety and cleverness, which is why daleks have so many issues dealing with humans.

It's time for the old 2005 design to be updated, and they could taken note from what they've learned with this design - in particular the stance of the skirt and how the weapons platform is thinner above the join. Chris Chibnall, we need more Daleks. People have and will always love the Daleks *because they aren't humans in rubber masks*

Considering the Daleks were absolutely useless for Moffats entire run, seeing the strength of one Dalek taken seriously in this episode by the new writers was a breath of fresh air.
Even as a huge Moffat fan, totally agreed. Chibnal seems to be really good with old dw monsters and rubbish with original ones (kind of the opposite to Moffat), so I hope we get more of those in season 13

Agreed! I like Moffat's writing a lot but I was always sad we never got a big Dalek story after Victory of the Daleks- Asylum had the Daleks, but they weren't used as the real villains, not really. I thought it was a shame they didn't try to go for a sort of second Dalek civil war plot with the new paradigm. It's good to see that Chibnall can use them well.
@Steve Ross ....The rest of the story was fine. This episode was a fairly normal, slightly-above-average episode; if there's anything wrong with it it's that it's a bit of a "Dalek" rehash, but they're pretty different and that's more a callback than a negative.

The Dalek versions of hand grenades are able to blow apart if not vaporise mountains.
Supposedly, the Special Weapons Dalek was considered insane, even by the Daleks. They referred to it as an abomination.
That was in large part due to the fact it was sent by Davros to defeat the dalek empire.

Yup, having watching 'The Rememberance of the Daleks' as a kid, a later as an adult, the other Daleks indeed called it an 'abomination', as the Dalek inside it was insane, even by their own standards ...
Fun facts:
I) its my favourite Dalek of all time, and have a minature of it somewhere ...
II) it remains my favourite story of the McCoy era, especially as it featured a -- more or less -- Dalek 'civil war' ... The reason why it was used in the first place was because it's cannon was the only thing powerful enough to 'one shot' a Dalek, leaving nothing behind, but a smoldering base. Iirc, it took out three of them in succession, with perhaps two, simultaneously, without even a scratch ...
III) alot of the outside filming was done at the museum I volunteer at. Someone actually took several photographs of Sylvester McCoy actually doing his own stunts, including leaping onto a mattress whilst 'blowing up' one of the Daleks ...

Troops would never form a line like that anyway. Minimum of 5 meters apart, behind cover where possible or at least taking a knee/prone.. Being ex Infantry i always hate seeing shit like this as it looks awful...

I wish there were more scenes like this to just demonstrate how deadly the daleks were.
I totaly agree, I wish they showed more on how destructive they can be because for some reason they always say some of the races are so destructive that they can take over entire galaxy's but never show it this gentlemen this is what I like to see is what a single dalek can actually do I wonder what a cybermen would do against that Company and scout tank

@@tomkenning5482 The armour of cybermen has been made from Titanium since they came back in the parallel universe. Titanium isn't ferrous so isn't magnetic

This must be one of my favorite Dalek scenes ever. For a long time I always wanted to see why the armies of Earth could not battle the Dalek's. I thought in past episode why not just get some tanks and use them to blow them to hell, but instead the Dalek's seem to be able to combat the military vehicles of Earth.
Not only that, remember that this specific Dalek build his entire casing from scraps. Notice he doesn't even have a shield/force field protecting him.
If a Tony Stark of the Daleks can do this much damage with basically an improvised armor, imagine your regular Dalek going up against tanks. O__O'
That was a Scimitar tank aka a 30mm automatic gun and almost no armor basically designed to take somthing like a AK47 and maybe a 50 cal shell to the front. Still a Dalek with the sheilds vs a M1 Abrums or a Challenger 2 and even this Dalek without the sheilding and that defensive shooting thingy given the sci fi weapons the tank would be no match
And that's just 1 dalek made of scraps, imagine if it was a well built one.

Its moments like this that help me understand exactly what Eccleston was terrified of with only 1 dalek escaping into the world (in Dalek). You don't need a fleet of daleks as 1 is enough to take out an army... amazing scene 🤯 Love it

Haven't been the biggest fan of the newer Doctor Who seasons, but I do love how they made the Dalek laser actually feel powerful in this scene. Feels like every blast is a concentrated nuke.
I love this scene. It's been far too long since we've seen a lone dalek cause some massive havok and chaos. It's good for the show to remind us of just how deadly they are, and the fact that this is a dalek using purely it's intelligence to make itself a deadly tank out of scrap makes it more badass. Casing or not, Daleks are always deadly!

That hasn't really been a thing since season 1 of nu who (that moment in "Bad Wolf" when one of their eyes was actually disabled).

This is the army, not UNIT. They're not prepared for situations and a lot of the alien invasions have been covered up by the government or United Nations.

This is one of the few scenes actually making me scared of a Dalek, and making me feel their rage and power
I have serious questions about a farmer who had the tools for a Dalek to make MISSILES in his barn.
Didn't the dalek literally come from a weapons archive and testing facility? I'm pretty sure it was packing more than just the laser whisk in the back of that police car if all the metal cases are anything to go by 😂
Nah, the Dalek took the missiles from a weapons facility, it just used the farm to build its casing

It's 6 seconds more than it normally gives
If I remember right, this was a scout Dalek originally before it rebuilt itself. The Dalek probably thought "I can't gather intel from corpses."
Once you see a Dalek, if the Doctor is not around, 5 seconds is all you need to say... "I surrender." And that only takes 3 seconds.
I was initially surprised it even considered "Surrender!" instead of going straight for "Exterminate!"

I love how they brought back the extermination sound effect from 'Remembrance of the Daleks'. I never liked the new series sound effect, particularly after I found out it was a stock effect - I heard it recently in an episode of 'The Venture Bros' which predated the revived 'Doctor Who' series.
For those who didn't like the Doctor defeating the Dalek with a microwave oven, in 'Remembrance', the Doctor disabled several Daleks with a device he constructed from an electric heater and parts from a television set, and this incarnation has been shown to be a genius at building gadgets. Also, the Reconnaissance Dalek built its new shell from what it could find on Earth - it may not have worked with a Dalekenium shell.
The fact this Dalek's casing is made of Earth materials and visibly lacks a bullet-melting forcefield for me makes watching it curb-stomp the military all the more badass. :)

This is the first time Daleks have actually been intimidating since Tennant left.
John Doe in this scene they were quite efficient but the fact that they defeated it with a microwave oven kind of makes them feel less scary in my opinion

Destroys about half a company of the British Army plus what looks to be an FV107 Scimitar CVRT Scout Tank.

@@twistedpath You mean the three massive medieval armies that were nearly wiped out whilst trying to immobilise the Dalek so they could use a fire to melt it's armour?
And you expect about 50 to 60 modern soldiers with light weapons, plus a single scout tank, to easily succeed where it took hundreds if not thousands of medieval troops to barely win?
Plus that's before you realise the Dalek had increased its armaments before it faced the modern forces.

Best Dalek scene since Rusty's spree in Into the Dalek, at that was over 5 years ago - I hope Chibnall has more Dalek stuff like this lined up for the future. This is how the Daleks should be - ruthless, efficient and devastating

@@hydradude3989 I think that particular one in 'Dalek' did that to contain the explosion of its nuclear batteries, and protect Rose.
Remember Bronze/Gold Daleks were shown to have shields that disintegrated even high velocity bullets before they made contact with their shell.
Something classic Daleks, and the Recon Dalek, did not have.
I forgot about this one. Seeing a single Dalek taken seriously again, for what I consider the first time since series 1's Dalek, is a huge relief.
It's a shame Chibnall was otherwise completely useless, because this scene is pretty great.
If only Moffat could do daleks this well. Say what you will about Chibnall's writing, but this scene made me afraid of the Daleks for the first time since, well, Dalek.

I saw this and was glad and impressed at how the people at bbc were able to demonstrate just how powerful the daleks were by showing it literally walk through the military
The Dalek spheres (or whatever they're called) opening up to reveal missiles was probably the biggest 'wow' moment in Jodie Whittaker's era so far for me. It's an awesome idea! A cool way of bringing something fresh and new to an old villain.
Why? In the RTD era they could've destroyed that tank with their regular weapons. Introducing these missiles makes me wonder how they replenish them, where are they all stored, etc.
A fair question if the missiles were for all Daleks, but I'm pretty sure they're just an isolated case for that one Dalek in that one episode. The missiles were stored in the improvised armour (specifically designed for them, rather than the usual Dalek casing), and they weren't replenished.
For the tank, I agree that the regular weapon would've destroyed the tank with a few shots. I'd say the main point of the use of the missile there was to deflect the tank shot, which I thought was quite clever. The tank shot would've destroyed the Dalek due to the lack of a shield and non-Dalekanium casing.
Daleks killing anything that gets in it's way, this is pure bliss!

I lived this special. We had forgotten just how scary the Daleks are supposed to be. It's not supposed to be their numbers that scare us, it's their ability to swat us down like flies.

Can't stress enough, the visuals this iteration of DW gives is breathtaking. The cinematography, the special and practical effects combining so well (almost on movie levels) - plus this scene shows to the fullest extent how 1 Dalek is capable of taking out a whole army - especially one that rebuilt itself.
The admiration for the fact that they brought back the sound effect for extermination from the 1980s...
Even if it was a slight retread of the series 1 episode, this episode did more to make the Daleks scary than basically anything post series 2. Let's hope Chibnall can continue to use them sparingly and effectively, unlike Moffat in particular.
Honestly, one of my favourite battle scenes containing Daleks! It's really well done!
One thing I love about the Daleks in New Who is how they can rotate their mid section to fire in multiple directions, it really allows for much bigger action scenes

This dalek is made of scavenged parts and earth junk. It's literally improvised armor. This dalek is pretty much Tony Stark.
ThePonyDalek well tbh, the British army were quite, well inadequate. They used 5.56 against a fully armored hostile. At least bring out a few AT rockets with volley fire or something. Plus a scimitar being used in this case is very unlikely, as a warrior would be a better fit and do a much better job (considering 30mm auto cannon would be much better suited vs 30mm (what looks like solid shot which is not realistic) from a Rarden
It's not really the exact thing it does, it's more the tone of the scene and the way the episode portrays it. They could make the Daleks seem "supreme" by having it battle some enormous force and justify that too, but the same thing gets accomplished with this by the way it's shot and parts like the rapid-fire sort of firing, which is actually kind of cool since we haven't seen them do that before. It's more the systematic way it takes out the 20 people than how many there are.

I have issues with the past few seasons of Doctor Who, but I do love the revamped Dalek beam weapons. They feel much more powerful and terrifying, like there is a mini nuke in every attack.

In the old days of the dalek race, they cant fly up stairs, so you could just run up a staircase to escape a dalek.
I am saying they got improved a little.
What I loved about series 1, 'Dalek' is how indiscriminately it killed people. That's the one thing I LOVE about this scene.

I actually really enjoyed this whole episode. The "Junkyard Shique" Dalek was a really nice design.
As much as I dislike this episode, this scene is pretty bloody brilliant. This is exactly what I was expecting when the bbc announced an upgrade in quality for the new series. I really hope we get more scenes like this in this years special
I don't know, I remember a lot of people not liking the fact the Dalek even offered them a chance to surrender instead of just opening fire.
"Allocated surrender period has expired! Consequence: Extermination!" is one of the best Dalek lines of all time.

Such a simple action sequence and yet it's so freaking cool. This episode nailed Doctor Who like only 1 or 2 Series 11 episodes did before it.
The fact that an army with firearms and tanks can’t defeat the Dalek but people equipped with swords and arrows in the 9th century were able to will always confuse me...

modern military cannot harm a Dalek armour made from scrap metal local to Sheffield
yet 3 armies from medieval times could harm it when it had armour that was Skaro-made.
The fact the dalek had raw destructive power but the kind of accuracy to bounce its projectile off the tanks and the fact that It did this with a missle rather than a bullet is impressive

That woman also committed unspeakable acts in the Time War and has been a thorn in the Daleks side since their creation. She might be a more relaxed incarnation but that doesn't change her past.
That's kind of the point....

It’s funnier when you realise it didn’t need to land at all. It just REALLY wanted to kill some stuff before taking off again and carrying on.
I love the episodes where it's just a tiny number of daleks, like this one. It helps highlight how truly terrifying they are.

They deliberately uploaded two clips per episodes building up to what people would believe is a trailer, people expected a trailer after the second clip of Resolution, instead they trolled us with the first third clip of Resolution, then upload a complication of their series 11 clips to make people think that there will be a trailer after, but no, we get our first 4th clip of Resolution. Don't bother, this channel will troll you for weeks showing its 10th clip of Resolution. I f*cking unsubscribed from this bulsh*t. Why not show big finish trailers like Ravenous 4 Day of the Master featuring 4 masters, Daughter of the Gods where doctor 1 and 2 meet and create a new timeline where Katerina lives and The Dalek's Master Plan never happened, or Home Gaurd where the first master meets doctor 2, instead of f*cking repeats of a sh*t series.

This is a great scene. It truly re-enforces how powerful one Dalek is showing no mercy. The line, “allocated surrender period expired consequence extermination”, is chilling. The use of the Remembrance of the Daleks gun sound effect is very impactful and the explosions and direction is brilliant. If I have a nitpick, it’s that the CGI Dalek model and missiles could look better but this is still a great action scene and my favourite resolution scene.

This really puts into perspective what Nine was saying, about how one (Time War) Dalek could exterminate a city of one million people. Considering how effective this one is despite being made of garbage, in a worst-case scenario, you’re fighting an indestructible war machine that fires ten shots per second and _never misses_ (on account of the whole “race of super-geniuses” thing).

Not really, this guy is horribly out of date.
He worked with scrap metal and basically scavenged oils and powders for explosives with his base gear, nothing near to modern Dalek design.

Funny when the dalek shoots at the doctor later on it completely misses each time. But against an army it effortlessly killed them all.
