KC had poor field position at times, fumbles by Pacheco, an INT, etc. None of that was Mahomes fault aside from the INT but he played a lot better and had a lot better of a stat-line.
Purdy is really good but I still don't know if he can carry a team by himself when necessary. Even with a full OT period, he has NEVER had 40 pass attempts in almost 30 starts. Mahomes has 40+ pass attempts in around 40% of his over 100 starts.
I think Cam Newton has a point. Purdy is indeed a game manager. I heard one sports show put it as "You're either a tractor or a trailer, can you carry the load or are you the trailer getting pulled along?" I think Purdy is like Romo or Matt Ryan level possibly, but people anointing him a top 2-4 active QB are way premature. Right now he is a trailer. Mahomes is a tractor.

QBs get injured. That part is normal. It is not normal to have 7 out of 10 seasons in a system where two or more QBs suffer injuries.
Everybody talks about the brilliance of Shanahan's system, but it seems that the brilliance of the system is fully at the expense of QBs. If you put on the tape, a few of these injuries really are just freak things. But for the most part, you just see QBs getting crushed by unblocked or lightly blocked edge rushers, especially on slow developing pass plays (both play action and non-play action). It's easy to chalk this up to just random chance, but these injuries are happening to multiple QBs across multiple teams all running the same concepts.
At some point, you have to ask whether this really is a brilliant scheme that gets guys open through fantastic design or whether this is just a dangerous scheme that gets guys open by asking QBs to stand in the pocket for too long behind questionable blocking schemes designed to sell the play action at the expense of the QB's health and safety.

@@navyglass1242 I've watched every down of Purdy's professional career. I guarantee you have not. Only idiots think he is just a "system quarterback." And I mean, only idiots. The Niner O-line was ranked 25th in the NFL in pass-block win-rate this season -- even with Trent Williams at LT. Everyone else is that bad except LG Aaron Banks, who is average. But the center is a dwarf and the various RG's and RT's that have rotated through the positions were disasters. Purdy was the fifth most pressured quarterback in the league this year, but LED the NFL in passer rating while under pressure. He had to make lightning fast decisions in the pocket, but much more importantly, about 10% of the pass plays required him to at least climb the pocket or escape left or right. He made so many out-of-structure plays all year it's ridiculous that anyone thinks he's "stuck in the system." He has an elite 10-yard acceleration burst (per the Combine) of 1.55 seconds, which is about the same as Tyreek Hill and Lamar Jackson. (After that, of course, he only has a 4.8 40-yd dash because his top end speed isn't elite.) But he's quicksilver in the pocket. In this game, his QBR was over 70. Lamar Jackson, the likely MVP, had a QBR in the 40s versus the same Chiefs' defense in the AFCCG.
In the regular season Purdy led the NFL in passer rating and completion percentage and TD passes against the blitz. So credit Spagnolo with adjustments at halftime to counter what Shanahan was doing. In the second half the Super Bowl, free runners were coming at Purdy every 2-3 plays it seemed. And it wasn't just blitzes. It was Chris Jones (especially) and other D-linelmen being freed up via stunts or whatever. Chris Jones was left completely unblocked on that last Purdy pass attempt near the goal line on the first drive in OT. All 6-foot-6 and 320 lbs of him was free, at full speed and immediately in Purdy's face by the time he even got his fingers set on the laces.
And don't call Spags a liar. Spags was responsible for stopping Josh Allen when necessary and shutting down Lamar. If he says Purdy played well, I don't doubt him. I saw the game and agreed with him. You're obviously a Chiefs fan so good for you. You've got a dynasty on your hands and the best quarterback in the league and someday perhaps of all time.

It's a team sport. Purdy didn't fumble on the first drive. Purdy didn't muff the punt return. Purdy didn't miss the extra point. Purdy didn't blow his blocking assignment on the final offensive play of the game. Purdy played as well as Mahomes. Last week all we heard from the Nick Wrights of the world was , oh...sure Purdy led a comeback but he needed a lucky bounce off of a facemask to get past the Lions. You know what we're not hearing today? That Mahomes needed a lucky bounce off a punt. Mahomes needed a blocked extra point.....please. Mahomes is a phenomenal player. And Purdy played every bit as well as Mahomes yesterday. The Niners lost Greenlaw and suddenly Travis Kelce shows up. The Niners lost Feliciano and Brendal missed his blocking assignment on the final play for the 49ers offense. He makes that block and Aiyuk scores a wide open TD.

Andy Reid coached Philly to MANY NFC championship games - and the Super Bowl - while head coach of the Eagles. Your effort to portray him as a mediocre coach is not supported by the facts. From Wikipedia:
Reid began his professional coaching career with the Green Bay Packers, where he served as an offensive assistant from 1992 to 1998 and was a member of the team that won Super Bowl XXXI. He held his first head coaching position with the Eagles in 1999, who became perennial postseason contenders under his leadership. Reid led the Eagles to nine playoff runs, six division titles, five NFC Championship Games (including four consecutive from 2001 to 2004), and an appearance in Super Bowl XXXIX. Despite his success, Reid was unable to win a Super Bowl title and he left Philadelphia in 2012 amid a team decline.
Hired as the head coach of the Chiefs in 2013, Reid helped revitalize the struggling franchise into one of the league's best. In 11 seasons with Kansas City, he has led the Chiefs to 10 postseason appearances, eight consecutive division titles, six consecutive AFC Championship Games, four Super Bowl appearances, and three Super Bowl titles. Reid also won the Chiefs' first playoff game since 1993 in the 2015 season, clinched their first consecutive division titles between 2016 and 2017, and won their first Super Bowl in 50 years in Super Bowl LIV.

Overall the team did enough to get close but fell victim to what Kyle’s critics rant about…all the critics say Kyle is he can’t win the big one. Unfortunately, that seems true. The only major staff change they should pursue is bringing in an offensive of coordinator. I would task that person with clock management, in game offensive adjustments, and overall collaboration with Kyle. Purdy was terrific. This loss isn't on him. But why was Kittle an afterthought? Shouldn't CMC have gotten even more carries? And finally, how could the 49ers' defense just fail to make a stop in the second half, especially in the 4th quarter and OT? Last was the decision to take the ball first in OT. Mahomes knew he had 4 downs per series after the Niners scored, also knowing he could settle for a FG if necessary.

The 49ers defense had lost several key players to injuries by the second half and the ones that were still playing would have been exhausted by the end of regulation, thus you saw them degrade over the course of the game. That's probably why the 49ers elected to receive the ball to begin overtime. Their defense had just managed to hold a Mahomes led drive to a chip-shot field goal after 4 full quarters of play, and to turn right around and ask them to do it again with no break at all would have been too much. In all likelihood, the Chiefs would have driven right down the field and scored a touchdown and then made a stop against the 49ers' offense because their defense had gotten to rest during two back to back offensive drives. It is tough call to make since these overtime rules are so new and there aren't any real statistics to look over and tell you what you should do yet.
