I LOVE this game! When I got my first PlayStation console - the PS One in 1999- this and RE Director’s cut (RE 1) became my FAV games. I bought all of them in both series and continued playing them when I got my my PS2 and PS3. To me the best of SH was the first one. I got hooked fast and loved the thrills and scary nurses chasing you around while you’re searching for your 7yr old daughter. I also love that it takes place after the fallout & the atmosphere, eerie music and sounds constantly keeps you on edge. Then there’s the continuous falling ashes. At 1st I thought it was snow, LOL I enjoyed that you never REALLY knew where you were going & even if you did-the game would fool you. 1 min you’re in the school then you turn a corner or go in an elevator & suddenly it’s the hospital. It’s like it has it own different dimensions of other worlds & you have to fight enemies while searching for Cheryl thru them all. Did I mention that the creepy spastic nurses also surprise you at every turn? heehee ;)
I remember being 8 years old playing this at my aunt's house...so terrified I could barely breathe...but i couldn't stop playing. years and years later i'm still a massive silent hill fan.
The intro is still haunting. I still remember my first time in the alleyway nightmare, the air screamer breaking the cafe’s window. It’s not nostalgia, it’s art - it never gets old. A masterpiece. Give SH back to the fans!
Agreed. As a kid I only played RE3 and Dino Crisis, so I don't have nostalgia for this game. However, seeing it nowadays, I can tell it was a masterpiece of an intro: the camera work, the sound design, even the graphics for its time... Crazy stuff. I bet I'd have trauma now, had I played it back then.
Never did play this, I was far too young at the time, but man did this game nail atmosphere especially with the sound design. It feels like so many modern horrors games hyper-focus on visuals and neglect the other aspects that make a game truly unsettling.
I'd love to see a proper remake of this classic. Sadly, Konami seems to have lost all interest in this franchise. *EDIT:* I'm aware that this comment is outdated and that Konami has multiple Silent Hill games in development -- including a remake of 2. Let's all cross our fingers and hope for the best.
And that's not entirely a bad thing. It's actually a blessing in disguise when you think about it. Thankfully a remake will NEVER happen. So normies can't poop all over it with a crappy remake. Since Konami is far too greedy to sell their IPs. ... I can't believe I just thanked Konami... strange times we live in.

@Alain Marceux anything goes in the world of SH even a poor story that failed to follow up from recent SH game, as long the concept is still there. See the contextual difference between SH1 and SH2. Not connected even SH homecoming.
Right I thought something was wrong with me. I love tho see a scary game story play out but, I keep buying games like this and end up don’t beating them lol. I would say I did good in resident evil games but this oh no
Looking back at this game fully and realizing that my frustration was warranted back when I originally played it brings validation now lol. The things they expected us to figure out after being thrown into this somehow limited but open world was INSANE! Little things you would never know without hours of trial and error, having a notebook to write things down, dying over and over again. The patience we had with the golden era of gaming is unreal compared to now. I miss this about games most of all. Sinking a years worth of play time into a game to finally beat it after all the struggle was so satisfying.
What’s even more interesting the fog was never supposed to be a thing in the game. just for spawning purposes like the buildings and streets. So the fog fit right in to an already creepy setting silent hill was a true spectacle of survivor horror, chefs kiss.
The transition from 26:50; the change from "fog world" to "otherworld" is something that has stuck with me for a good 23 yrs. The pitch blackness, and labored breathing from what im assuming is an iron lung creeped the fuck outta me first time playing it. And to end up in a school as well...
Every gamer has a game that defined the horror genre for them, resident evil was that game for me. The first original resident evil was good, but very dated, then it got remastered which made it amazing. Silent hill is also a horror defining genre for others, and rightfully so, it's a very well crafted suspenseful horror. But just like original resident evil, it is dated. This game deserves a remaster.
Re1 wasnt really remastered it was remade, but the remake kinda sucked ass because it didn't improve anything but graphics but it's still considered a remake because it was built from the ground up
One of my first true ventures into the genre of horror games. And also one of my favorites. I first played this game around 2006 when I was about 10 years old. I found it in a box full of copied/burned PS1 games. It was on a completely blank disc with nothing but the name Silent Hill on it inside a generic CD case. So I went into this game COMPLETELY blind, not knowing anything about it. I don't think I even realized I was playing a horror game until I got to the school. It terrified me to say the least. But something about it just made me keep coming back, and even check out most of the sequels. SH3 is my favorite, but I'll always have a soft spot for the original.
the school might be the scariest moment i've experienced in a game. it's brilliant, not a jump scare, but a complete collapse of all security and reality into utter hell.
As a kid this game terrified me an I wasn't even the one playing it, an it stuck with me every since how scary this game was an I'll be 27 this yr. This game was truly horrifying an just everything about it was unnerving an just plain scary. The sounds of the creatures an the nose that played when near them, the design of the creatures an the way they behaved an moved about, going into some bathrooms an hearing a cry from an child, only being able to see what's right in front of u at a curtain distance an everything else is pitch black, every turn an an step was unsettling an always put u on edge even when u felt like u may have been safe for the moment, silent hill 1 just set a atmosphere an style of horror that (in my opinion) until this very day no other game has met the bar this game set, its a cut above the rest an would be great to have a remaster (not a remake). 💜
its a crime they left this out of the hd collection. this should be remembered on a pedestal like ocarina of time. the impact this game had when it released and even til this day is surreal

It's funny how it's common to appreciate movies that are 70 years old, for doing the things we take for granted nowadays the best way they could at the time, yet it's not so common to look at video games the same way. I mean yeah, there are always die-hard fans and TH-camrs doing essays about them. But can we just pause for a while and talk about the fact that the first six minutes of this video are just as mesmerizing, memorable, and culturally significant, as the first half of Hitchcock's Psycho or the opening of Argento's Suspiria? I mean I've always loved this game, I love the 2nd even more, but watching this now, god fucking damn.

Been watching alot of gameplays of this one for the past few weeks, and man wish I could have played it back when it came out too bad I was 4 years old 😂😂😂. Needless to say hope to play it one of these days looks like a masterpiece!
They are remaking it right now by a company called bloomer, they announced in October 2022 that they are remaking it, but it’s still not finished they are deep in developing it
But from the leaks it doesn’t look good, what makes this game top is the bad graphics that’s what I love about it, and the unsettling background music / noises
the war siren.. the music.. no game terrorized my mind as a kid like this one did, i had nightmares of pyramid head coming out of my tub and dragging me down lol. Best series ever.
The poster that's behind the dresser he moves to get the key under the floor in Kauffman's room kinda reminds me of that one shot of Oppenheimer from the movie

If you played this game in your childhood, You had a great childhood
... nope
absolute classic. a childhood game 😍😍😍
My childhood game too, I was scared while playing but at the same time enjoyed the search. Never got to complete the game though, I wish I can get this on Nintendo...
came here two years later after seeing the movie. only seen screenshots of this game this walkthrough is sick
We need a Remastered Version of Silent Hill.
Thanks for the video
Damn hearing the opening song gave me ptsd, i never finish this game because this game is too scary and I'm a scaredycat
I never got to finish the game for the same reason as you…it’s too scary….the camera angles really add to the atmosphere feel of the game
Welp at least you have the balls to play this game, meanwhile I can't even look at the cover without covering my eyes
You guys aren't joking right? You guys are this much afraid of this game?
If you still have the game and won't finish it, sell it, it will sell for £98 (so maybe like $102 dollars?)
I was just thinking about this game and now it appears. Wow!
THIS IS A DAMN MASTERPIECE better than all these modern games
Always heard of Silent Hill growing up, but never got the chance to play it. Been watching alot of gameplays of this one for the past few weeks, and man wish I could have played it back when it came out too bad I was 4 years old 😂😂😂. Needless to say hope to play it one of these days looks like a masterpiece!
SH2 Remake is on its way and there's more SH projects I think.
I kind of hope they one day remake this game, now that graphics and voice acting have gotten a lot better since then.
They are remaking it right now by a company called bloomer, they announced in October 2022 that they are remaking it, but it’s still not finished they are deep in developing it
But from the leaks it doesn’t look good, what makes this game top is the bad graphics that’s what I love about it, and the unsettling background music / noises
4:46 wow... thats crazy dop's work! fantastic!!!
this brings back so many memories from my teenage years.
the war siren.. the music.. no game terrorized my mind as a kid like this one did, i had nightmares of pyramid head coming out of my tub and dragging me down lol. Best series ever.
The poster that's behind the dresser he moves to get the key under the floor in Kauffman's room kinda reminds me of that one shot of Oppenheimer from the movie
2:49:17 He’s literally dodged his attack XD
After watching dozens of horror movies and playing a lot of horror games, this is still the scariest experience I ever had. Scarier than any movie or videogame
I've decided that it's time to finally look at this game
Don't get why silent hill 2 remake will be out first instead of this one
Same thought
maybe... yh idk
This game really make goosebump frequently
Old is gold
One of my favourite games
I love this game
They need to remaster this game. This game is awesome. If they can always remaster Resident Evil why can't they do the same with Silent Hill ?
I will always remember when I used to play silent hill on my nokia 6300 ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ thanks for uploading ❤️❤️❤️❤️
It’s a shame I haven’t had played this yet.
I was bored so decided to watch this. Played this so long ago I totally forgot how similar it is to the first movie! Crazy! Thanks for posting this :)
This video has been an absolute joy to watch. Your passion for gaming shines through, and it's evident that you put a lot of effort into creating high-quality content. I'm excited to see what you have in store for future videos. Keep up the fantastic work and thank you for sharing this amazing gaming experience with us! The graphics and visuals in the game are top-notch, and you really bring out the best in it
It is currently 9:36pm on a school night. I was supposed to be in bed at 7, and here I am watching this masterpiece. Awesome video!
Still looks great one of the finest work by silent hill team
Now we need this masterpiece to have a remake.
The opening guitar sound is wonderful. I remember playing this game a long time ago, but I was too scared to progress through the game because the hospital had turned into a world of blood and rust.
i love the way u play
thick fog and pitch black places still gives me the creeps.
