Hey Joe, those "Fog Lamps" are the turn signals, no fog lamps were available. ------ Camaro's and Chevelle's were the beasts back in those years, you could get the 396 Big Block or the small block chevy 302 with 2 4BBL carberators (Z28 302 V8 Cross Ram Dual 4 BBL Carbs) 290 hp. There were 4 396's available - official 1969 Camaro 396 big-block options were the L34 (325 hp), L35 (350 hp), L78 (375 hp, iron heads), and L89 (375 hp with aluminum heads). -------- That shifter was called a (Horseshoe or Lift Gate) shfter for the 350 and 400 Turbohydromatic and lots of guys would put (shift kits) in the transmission for faster shifts. I owned a 1970 Camaro SS with 400 automatic and this same shifter and later I bought a 1970 Chevelle SS with 396 and 4 spd Muncie (rock crusher) manual trans. Both very fast and fun to drive. Joe - To answer your question (the Camaro was GM's direct response to Ford creating the Mustang) so you are probably right that had it not been for the Mustang we wouldn't have ever had the Camaro.

I love first gen Camaros, but here in southern cali, there’s a huge over-saturation of them. Mostly hipsters, that don’t know a mopar from a Pontiac. But hey, it’s great for the fabricators and the speed shops turning these cars around, making money. And still great to see more of them than ever on the road. Feel it might be a direct response to having these EV’s being shoved down everyone’s throat.

My dad was a camaro man, he wasn't rich and only got what he could afford ( especially when i was born), ended up getting a 68' firebird in orange and needed alot of TLC tinkered with it for YEARS, he took the badges off and slapped "Camaro" on it, no one knew the difference until he told them and they saw that infamous blue firebird symbol on the side windows, we eventually painted it white with black race stripes on it and we weren't pros, definitely wasn't showroom quality like this one but he didn't care yet always admire the ones that were but best believe he always turned heads, even won an award one time from a car show he went at to his surprise, he never got to have a quality classic like this one and be fortunate Mr. Joe if he was there with you, he'd have wrestled the keys out of your hands to drive it, thank you for reviewing this beautiful relic the way it deserves and going ON THROTTLE it reminded me of the good ole days when I was a kid with him 9/11/13 RIP pops.
If your curious the car is still in our family, sold it to my uncle ( one of my mom's brothers who always wanted it) several years ago which he fixed up, why you ponder? Because much to the dismay of my pops, I became a charger man 😉 not that he didn't like other classic cars anyway.

I had drum brakes on my 69' Road Runner back in the day in the 70s. Had them on my 65 Barracuda, my 67 Ford. All non power brakes. They stopped fine if adjusted properly just takes more pressure. If you can lock up the wheels the brakes are fine. Peeps who have never even driven older cars make it sound like because they have Drum or non power brakes the car won't stop. The stopping depends on how much pressure you apply.

My mother, older brother and myself 11 or 12 piled into the back seat and a passenger in the front seat. And yeh it was cramped. The beach was about an hour away, but nobody complained. My current car is a 17' Camaro SS, 6 speed Manual. Had a 2011 Camaro before this. Both nice cars but the 6th gen is step up from the 5th gen.
