I admire all of the female classical dancers in our Indian movies, but I think Vyjantimala is at the top !! Waheeda, Padmini, Hema and Asha Parekh were also great no doubt.
Padmini was way above rest as far as dancing skills were concerned. However we rate vyjayanthimala higher as she was commercially a more successful star in Hindi cinema.
@@saurabhbanerjee987 not really, vyjayantimala is the best. it is not easy for a bharatanatyam dancer to do kathak and moreso for a kathak dancer to adapt to bharatanatyam.. vyhjayantimala could do it. there was and is no dancer to match her grace and perfection. padmini wad more of a folk dancer though a trained bharatanatyam dancer
Extra ordinary song.. It's not a small thing to dance with the legendary Gopi Krishna, that too on a Kathak based dance song by a Bharatnatyam dancer that too along with Gopi Krishna (King of Dance) is possible only when the name is Vijayanthimala... A classic forgotten dance song of Indian Film industry.
While i also agree about Waheeda in beauty, acting and grace, i disagree about the sensuality part. Vjy and many others oozed more sensuality. You should see Amrapalli and see how Vjy dances with grace and sensuality. She and Padmini were true dance legends totally unbeatable when it came to semi-classical dances and infact they were the predecessors of dance in Bollywood.
This was not Hollywood where everything was sexualused to cover the lack of artic abilities.... this is art based on culture and depth of human expression.

In Phoolo ki Sej Music director Aadi Narayan Rao gave beautiful music for this Katthk dance in three Ragas First Darbari then Pilu and lastly Malkauns Vaijayantimala and Gopi Krishana combination is perfect All other songs from this film were also good but the film was not did well
