I searched for this movie for 30 years, not being Indian and not knowing the title, but I loved it and finally found it on DVD. I watch it often because nobody can dance like Gopi Krishan ji.
Gopi Krishan Is THE Best dance.....that flexibily.....God Sandhya was lucky to learn from him....... Even in Amrapali Gopi Krishan danced so great... And Vyjayanthimala danced also very nicely I bow my head for such beautiful classic dance Lovely
Aesthetic, divine, heart touching, vitalizing dance, grace of Sandhya & GopiKrishna, shastriya dance singing, picturization, photography, song, lyricisist & Direction All get Salutes !!! V Shantaram, Mehboob, Vijay Bhatt, Raj Kapoor, Sohrab Modi, Bimal Roy, & his Shishyas Hrishikesh Mukharerji, Guizar, etc. are all Gems & all classical Singers are also shine in our Sky. I listen them when I was a child. Then also I liked them, now I recall the pleasent past. " Guzar Gaya Who Zamana Kaisa, Kaisa ? Lovely, Lovely !!! Bakul Vatsaraj.
Watching it again in 2019 ... cannot have enough of this!! And wish to FORCE my sons to watch it as well .. and my grandchildren! This performance will NEVER be repeated in our country again!
exquisite kathak-dance and accompanying short song beautifully sung by Lata and Mannadey--particularly Lata in her most beautiful voice with tonal modulations. melodious meend, murkis typical of Lata in her young days, when her voice was flexible and most melidious.
3:37 till 4:22 watch the foot work and it makes me cry especialy once radha jump and watch her feets and the foot work of guy during that ,makes me cry ...who can do this now days????
that was beautiful, thank you so much for posting this video. Now think this, if its already so nice as a movie, how much more beautiful are the real pastimes of the Lord in Goloka Vrindavan, where Radha and Krishna are not actors, but real...btw I watched this several times and , its really happy making, 108 stars
The song describes love between Krishna & Radha. Krishna comes on river bank where Radha comes to fetch water for her home. How she likes him still pretends as if she does not know him. There are comedy withing this song. Neela who acts like Radha was really in love with the character. So one moment she gets lost in thought. But the teacher sings laudly to get his attention so Neela will continue dancing. Next time he really shouts "Neela!" Sandhya( neela in the movie ) was great dancer.
how is Gopi krishna , nowadays ? we had learned that he is from Kathmandu , Nepal . Once he has performed in his own birthplace - Ranjanaa cinema hall , also !
Hi, Thanks for your comment. I love Indian classical dance and songs. Glad to see good responses to this song. Probably you like the peacock song (a foke song) too in the same film. (Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baje)
Could you enlighten me as to who is the playback for the teacher. Manna Da is great as ever but its the playback for the teacher who's the soul of this song.
People from Africa stole from Indian classical music and called it Rap. They pretend as it is their own music. Taken from Wikipedia "Rap was used to describe talking on records as early as 1971, on Isaac Hayes' album Black Moses with track names such as "Ike's Rap", "Ike's Rap II", "Ike's Rap III", and so on.[15] Hayes' "husky-voiced sexy spoken 'raps' became key components in his signature sound".[15] Del the Funky Homosapien similarly states that rap was used to refer to talking in a stylistic manner in the early 1970s: "I was born in '72... back then what rapping meant, basically, was you trying to convey something-you're trying to convince somebody. That's what rapping is, it's in the way you talk."[16]Rapping can be traced back to its African roots." How true is that? African people use to watch Indian movies in 50s as many Indians were living there. They were inspired by the Indian culture and now they are pretending as it is their own culture.
