This brought back memories of day two of my GOW. You are correct, Elliot Ridge to Blanket Bay does get muddy......VERY MUDDY!! We slipped and sludged through mud the entire way from Elliot Ridge to the Blanket Bay turnoff. I've never experienced such slippery mud! It was very slow going and straight through it was the only option...... very fun though!!
That brought back some memories as I had excitement riding my loaded mountain bike to Blanket Bay. The hill climb behind Apollo Bay was hard work, up to 320 m, I think, but then, got on the top of that fire service track you came down to Blanket Bay. I remember a big Tiger snake coiled in the middle of the track that was reluctant to move. It was super steep at the bottom and not much fun with so much weight aboard. I liked that Blanket Bay campsite which had a dozy koala wandering around on the ground and making noises like a chainsaw starting up once it got dark. You had an excellent day.
lol… I think that the Koalas actually get a little stoned on the Eucalyptus 🤔 There were plenty of koalas up around Eliot Ridge however I didn’t hear or see any at Blanket Bay on this visit.
How does the cape to cape compare to this? I’ve done the great ocean walk a few times and thought it was pretty great but never done the cape to cape. I’m heading out to do the aawt soon so that’ll be fun too
lol… good question James…believe it or not I’ve had quite a few people ask me the same thing so I’ve done a quick video that’ll I’ll post after the GOW series finishes where I compare the Cape 2 Cape and the Great Ocean Walk…I figured I was in the slightest unique position of having walked both the tracks in the last couple of months… obviously the tracks are similar in many ways however there are also quite a lot of differences that I go into a bit… what I can say quickly is that both tracks are similar when it comes to fitness and experience needed to walk them👍😀

Perfect timing, I’ve booked myself in for the first week of December. I’ll be keeping an eye out for these next few videos for sure, thanks Kev!
By December you might be able to squeeze in a sneaky swim or two at some of the safer beaches😀👍
You missed the nightly Koala Choir at Elliot Ridge. Hopefully their mates at Blanket Bay serenaded you to sleep, or you missed out!
lol… I heard them as I was walking down to Blanket Bay… for such a cute animal they certainly sound ugly🤣👍

Ps…the AAWT will definitely be awesome… next level hard though🤣
