    Great Video I literally just got the Santos De Cartier Chronograph 18k gold 2 TONE W2SA0008 and I feel its the sexiest watch I've seen in a long time. And it was unavailable when I purchased I feel prices might rise due to demand. I had to do a unboxing video I was so Geeked I had to do it.

      @@davidzed7952 thanks bro that's why I went with the chronograph cause the 18k gold is brushed it has more of a textured bezel which helps hide scratches better than the large polished version.

      Cartier has been making watches longer than all brands. They invented the wrist watch.

    • @davidyule1973
      @davidyule1973 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bdegrds a great brand, I believe they created the first gentleman's wrist watch and Patel Phillipe created the first wrist watch, but was for ladies. The wrist watch that Cartier created however is the format that everybody wears today and the PP wrist watch was much more jewellery focused, like an intricate bracelet that told you the time fashioned from solid gold. Am sure that was very beautiful at the time.

    • @j.l.7264
      @j.l.7264 ปีที่แล้ว

      It really depends tho.... it’s true they make good complications and no doubt about their history, but the entry level offerings, ones that people actually could buy, are kind of meh. Both the tank and santos at stainless steel are pretty pricey for what they are. Just an opinion.

    Considering the Santos. Would you say the OEM rubber strap can still fit smaller wrists (eg. 6 inches)?

    • @simonyu8838
      @simonyu8838 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Size wise, if it's anything like the leather straps on other larger models it will fit and I can't imagine the two being all that different in length. In terms of looks, the non-white dials definitely work on 6 inch wrists as the darker shades really tone down how big it looks on a 6 inch wrist.

    Just go mine, in part thanks to this video. What sold me on it vs the gold bezel, is that while gold is more striking, the scratches would drive me nuts! As far as market value for this model, I think is a major unknown. Medium Santos in traditional design is a far safer bet...but I don't like it, looks like a ladies watch.

  • @obesetuna3164

    Cartier have always positioned themselves well in the market. They offer elegant quartz watches for those who care more about the fashion side, and finer, more expensive, mechanical timepieces. I have never understood the logic of those who beg for the opportunity to buy a Rolex at inflated prices.

      I said the same thing once, the only thing buying replicas and homages did for me was looking at them, wishing I would've bought the real one. If you really want a Santos maybe you can look into the small one, they retail for around 4-5k, and they're mechanical. You can save half of that and maybe get a loan and pay it off later. Either way, these watches hardly lose value so you didn't waste your money. Don't say it's out of your league dude, you can acquire anything you set your mind

      Go check it out on the old Tank MC which has a display back but worse water resistance at 30m. The movement really isn’t something to show off fairly basic looking. So to get to 100m they put on a metal caseback. I guess with Cartier you are paying for brand prestige and something a little different and artistic. The alternative is a movement powerhouse like Omega or best in class for mass production Rolex. Cartier is for guys who want something a little different in a bigger collection.

    Let me give the bad points about this model just to balance the view as I own one and these point have bugged me over time. 1) The crown is not screw down. This is a no go for a 'sports' watch because there is no water resistance when you swim/heavy rain. 2) The bracelet over time will have gunk going into the links (it happens from sweat and skin), and this will clog up the quick link adjustment, risking it not popping out when you want it to. 3) The movement accuracy is slightly questionable, and a 42h power reserve is really short. This makes it feel like a fashion watch, and in my humble opinion i would pay $4000 because this watch looks great..... but above that I would consider the moonwatch/seamaster/oyster perpetural because they just are better.

      I am going to buy the Santos in blue as an engagement watch because it is perfect in combination with the engagement ringt but I have to agree to your points mentioned. I recently bought a Breitling which has 500m water resistance, the famous B01 movement, it is a chrono (which always are more expensive), it is COSC certified, 70h power reserve for 5000€. On the other hand there is the Santos which got a price increase to 7600 so almost 8k for only 100m water resistance, 42h power reserve, no chrono, no COSC certificate, no screw down crown. I mean it is beautiful and all and I get it that you have to spend some extra bucks on the name but serious Cartier has to get their shit together this pricing is ridiculous.

      @@jackdaniels8030 Actually I think the pricing is fine IF they can fix the simple problems here 1)Screw down crown 2)movement accuracy + power reserve. Afterall, pricing is very much dictated by brand rather than the actual workmanship. So fine, i'll pay you Cartier.. just fix the small bugs. haha

      Water resistance is not dependent solely on a screw down crown - they have internal mechanisms which make give it this water resistance. Having this screw down would increase its performance but if you intend to shower or swim in a pool without going to depths it would be fine

      Yeah, if you don't dive, there is no need for a screw down crown. 42 hr reserve is perfectly fine with thinner watches, and it's good enough for plenty of other fine watches. 1847MC is one of the best and thinnest movements in the game, just read about it. The complaint about the bracelet is...just have it cleaned by jewelry, like you do with any good bracelet.

    I used to be a thin watch guy but lately I've been finding that certain watches need to wear a bit thicker, depending on its case design. If the case is broken up like the way Omega does it, then thicker might actually be better. But if its slab sided like Tudor, then thicker is not better.

      Yes definitelyy! some watches have to be thicker! I just like the fact that this watch is so unusually thin, because the majority of watches that I see today are bit thicker

      @@davidzed7952 Its a beautiful watch, especially the version you have on. I had no idea a black bezel version existed until now. The Santos is suddenly on my short list of watches to get next.

    in-house movement is debatable. It's a replica of a ETA 2893 with minor upgrades for anti magnetism.

      First watch maker to produce a commercially available men’s wrist watch. They invented the sports watch and the dress watch. The tank, santos and cintree models in their current line up have been there for over 100 years and thirty years before any current Rolex models and their high horological pieces are more advanced than anything AP or Patek do, but yeah, just a “jewellery brand”.

    In house movement that is totally not reliable. Cartier should have kept on getting the top quality movements from Jaeger-LeCoultre.
