as cliche as it is (thoughm mummies are just as cliche) a more reasonable and fitting source of a curse could be a native american site. doesn't have to be a burying ground per se, maybe a shrine of some kind, or a sacred place. mining creates a TON of underground destruction (and some aboveground as well) so it would make sense it would evoke a spirit's ire.

I can vividly remember this ride scene for scene because it scared me so bad when I was little. It’s been mentally imprinted onto my brain like a branding iron. It’s good to see that the park still keeps this ride around and that they updated the outside facade. There aren’t very many dark rides around anymore outside of Disney or universal.
Me and my friend just laughed the whole time. The ride has no theme and the lighting effects were not hidden very well. Oh well, good for a little park.

But I like the basic idea of having it start out tame and cutesy and then have it take a turn for the worst and become demented and frightening. One of my favorite dark rides. It’s a shame they replaced the original facade sign, and got rid of the story behind the ride you would read on the wall before you got on. 😕

the story board is still there, its in front the operator's booth in the middle section in between on-load and off-load.
