This is one of the best arena anthems ever written. When they play this the crowd sings at the top of their voice. Just fucking epic.
I cry every time I see them play this at Teatro Metropolitan, not only because the song is so beautiful but also because I remember Dany saying that, when they were young playing Rock Band, they dreamed of being on stage like they saw on Rock Band. Their live performance of this song at Teatro seems, to me, to be the culmination of that dream.
Pau cried at that event and with that song, precisely.

True. There is no bad song. There are some better than others according to personal preferences. But, technically, not a bad song in their discography.
Error is an album existing in rarified air. Every song is great to fantastic. Few bands (not named Led Zeppelin) have ever achieved this.

One thing for sure about The Warning's music video's, is that they are always at the pinnacle of creativity and expression. So, it's a double win for us fans to be able to get the best live performances and music videos.
Funny story that Pau told. They were recording the album in New Jersey with David Bendeth. Dany was in the studio with David recording her singing part. Dany and David both thought it sounded good. Pau came in later to listen and said that Dany was singing the song with an American accent. Dany then spoke nothing but Spanish for a couple days and did the song again. The sisters are always there to critique each other.

This is at the top of the list of favorites for me..I don't speak Spanish. I do know what the lyrics translate to. It's a brilliant song..EPIC....🤘🎶☮️

I get chills every time I listen to Martirio, and I don’t even know Spanish! This song is simply EPIC! With every new song these sisters release I become more convinced that these young ladies WILL, without a doubt in my mind one day be recognized as not just one of, but THE GREATEST Power Trio of all time, eclipsing even the greatest power trios to date in Rush, Cream, The Police, Muse, Jimi Hendrix, Grand Funk Railroad. I know this is a bold statement, but I am absolutely 100% convinced of this!
Simply put these young ladies souls are timeless and have eons of wisdom to draw upon and will absolutely dominate the music world for as long as they chose to do so. Mark my words, they WILL sell out any venue they chose to play, including major arenas and stadiums and they WILL be invited to headline the largest major music festivals the world has to offer, playing in front of millions!

Having spent many years (after a bad break-up) wallowing in my own "martyrdom", this song is kind of a gut-punch to me. I've long since left that depressive attitude behind, but I still remember those years... and wish this song had been around then to kick my butt out of it sooner than I naturally crawled out on my own. Sadly, _The Warning's_ *parents* possibly hadn't even met and definitely hadn't considered starting a family back then... 😋

Martirio really is fantástico. Such a powerful song. I get choked up almost every time I hear it. The Teatro live version is even more powerful because of the crowd and how it affected Pau.

They talked at one point about making this video, was like martyrdom. from before 6 am till after 9 pm, with sand blown everywhere, and chocking on smoke.

Your favorite Warning song is always the last one you heard. This was recorded in the Icamole Desert north of Monterrey. When they returned home they were covered in dust and sand. The woman in the video are TW, their mom, a cousin and a friend. This song is about calling out someone who lives their life as a martyr (victim). In one lyric they call that person “martir tonto” (dumb martyr). There is a Middle Eastern flavor here.
In vlogs from their house, they say they sometimes write bad songs. But they just leave them, then sometimes they go back and take pieces from them.
Your interpretation was dang near spot on from what I remember. If it wasn't for Evolve, this would be their show closer in Spanish speaking countries.

I think S!ck may have overtaken it, but Martirio is right up there with my favourite The Warning tracks. The song is an absolute anthem and has to be experienced live for full impact. The crowd singing the ohoohoohs & Dany’s vocal wail at the end - goosebumps like crazy. Thanks for the reaction.

My understanding is that Martirio can also mean inner torment in Spanish, and the message is that if you constantly consider yourself or play the martyr, then you are wasting your life, which I think is pretty much what you said. I don’t know why this song didn’t get more recognition in Latin America (eg their version of the VMAs). 👍😎

Recording the video was an ordeal as well. In an interview they told the story of being out in the desert. It was windy all day, blowing dust and sand into everything, their clothes, covering their instruments...And it was 45 Degrees C (113 Degrees F). They were out there all day and into the night. The tent structure was erected with the sheets as a way to protect them from the wind and sand but the wind shredded the sheets early on in the process. They played through the scenes anyway, but they were dodging the blowing sheets throughout, especially Pau. And, there were wasps they were trying to avoid as well. The video turned out amazing all things considered.
So glad you've actually chosen to watch the video for this song. Dany's vocal performance on the studio recording is top notch and I've yet to come across a performance that can top it. This song has a very challenging ending, and it must be quite intimidating to take on as part of a set list. If performed too early in the set, you could ruin your voice for the rest of the show. If done at the end of the set, your voice may be too worn out to hit the most challenging note.

They did Dust to Dust in the concert and it was before this song and the last note wail was 11 seconds and then she does this one! She has a great voice!

My favorite Warning song is always the last one I listened to. Matter Ii is such a moving, emotional song.
I personally think this is their best work! They had some version of this song in their back pocket for a number of years before getting it down like they wanted to, and the video shoot in the desert I understand took 2 days and was brutal. The other Spanish song (thus far!) is Narcisista, there are two live versions you need to watch and react to...Teatro Metropolitan as well as Foro DiDi Monterrey. Both are fantastic. There is no official music video, not including a lyric video.

The moments in which they have chants or opportunities for the audience to join in is intentional. They grew up watching a lot of rock concerts with their parents. Seasoned rock bands find ways to incorporate the audience into the shows to build and share energy and thereby create a better overall experience.

My interpretation from a while back matches yours: "Martirio" is a glorious, majestic anthem that reminds the listener that all of us suffer, so don't wallow in your self pity, learn how to deal with your fate, and move on. Knowing how well-read and educated Pau is, I think its easy to interpret the death and suffering mentioned in her lyrics as implicit metaphors about the brutal forced religious conversions the native Mexicans endured at the hands of Spanish invaders, and what they had to sacrifice in order to survive.
Good one Zack, and no TW don't have a bad song. I've heard every song, even their first EP, when Paulina and Alejandra weren't even teens yet. It's crazy, I know. It's hard but I think Martirio is my favorite song from them, cheers.

The Teatro Metropolitan performance is, of course, phenomenal. However, I think my favorite version of Martirio is from the SiriusXM studios. The small, intimate setting makes the song even more powerful in my opinion.

My favorite The Warning song is the last song I listened to.
In case no one mentioned it yet, that tent originally had a solid roof to shade them. The wind ripped it to shreds.
The fire ring was left open because it was a windy shoot so there had to be a safe escape route. Also, the billowing white rags on the building frame started out as semi-transparent walls but they were quickly shredded by the winds. Smart move to just improvise around it.

The problem with the live version is that it becomes all about the performance and any actual meaning of the song becomes irrelevant. So there is no need to apologize for watching the official video. It's a masterpiece, as I'm sure many have pointed out. The live performance is beautiful too, but I think it's nice to just get a grasp on the song itself. In addition to your interpretation, which from all I've seen is pretty good, I would add the aspect of the message "don't be a martyr but rise above your circumstances and take control of your destiny." On the trivia side, they had a hellish time filming this because it took from early morning until well past dark, and was hot, windy, and full of wasps. It sure is gorgeous though, and mom got to be one of the extras in the black cloaks.

This had been rather far down on my list until I saw it performed live in Boston in 2022, at which point it rocketed all the way up to #2, behind only Survive and ahead of a huge logjam of songs that had been at #2. It really needs to be live to experience the full passion of the song.

I am probably going to say something that several other people have said. I think this song is just about as beautiful as can be, and I don’t speak a lick of Spanish. It just speaks to me, but, as I know, you have stated many times that you will get to the live version of this, I think you will love it even more than this music video. There at the end where Danny is doing her wailing, she has a vocal crack that just shoots emotions right through me. I think this song is just beautiful. Thank you very much brother for staying on the path of these three amazing young ladies.

I also minored in Spanish, but I'm even rustier. But yes, I always feel moved by this song even though I don't relate to the lyrics that well directly. It's more like the lyrics create a feeling and some of the words in Spanish sound just so lovely. Dani's enunciation in Spanish and English is so clean the words are piercing. Like when she says "En tu martirio ahógate
Es tu destino, ¡entrégate!" those words sound so poetic in Spanish I don't think the song would hit the same in English. The video is also really beautiful and a bit disturbing.

the covering over the building frame was not supposed to be shredded but the winds had other ideas so DPA/TW and the team decided not to fight it... it makes for a nice atmosphere and works pretty well for this OMV...
this is not the first time they've had to deal with the winds, either... one or two of their other MVs that were shot outside were also on windy days... their Foo Fighters cover of *The Pretender* comes to mind... there were also comments about how the blowing sand stung and caused them to feel like they had a sunburn... they did a great and professional job, that's for sure 😹

This song just feels so big! Like a big anthem feel.
Both of their Spanish songs have turned into anthems the likes of Freebird for L.S. worldwide people love these songs and sing what they can these young ladies are awesome.
