- Concrete is one of the most common construction materials in the world, with its basic technology dating back to the ancient Romans. Engineers like Professor Deborah Chung at the State University of New York at Buffalo are using the innovation process to turn this old idea into a new technology. "Science of Innovation" is produced in partnership with the National Science Foundation and the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
Smart lady!!! Why isn't this "on the market" yet?
I guess cost is the major problem, carbon fiber is expensive.
True, but I would think that the long term benefits would far out weigh the short term costs, especially since the kind of projects this would be used in are of the "infrastructure" scale and are capitalized.
Patent issues, after putting patent no-one can use, make and do creations by own
Yes, but as concrete ages, the resistance will change and also as it expands and contracts with temperatures...
This patent amounts to a thermometer of the concrete.
Heck a cloudy day can give you multiple false alarms.
what if lightning hits a smart concrete structure?
They are teaching about this at the University of Hawaii.
Looks like so,thing Apple would love to hear
fallen power lines?
how can I download videos from you tube?

lab tech didn't have. gloves on and she didn't have any ppe other than a lovely dress :)
Im watching tyler1, how did I get here
this is a good idea no doubt. but the only problem i see is that the ability for the fibers to conduct electricity is only as long as the concrete is curing. i honestly dont beleive that carbon fiber would improve the strength of concrete, but weaken it.
