  • President of the Sinn Fein party since the early 1980s, Gerry Adams is the best-known face of the Northern Ireland peace process, rousing rancour among unionists, admiration from less hardline republicans.
He led the party to eventual participation in electoral politics, after it had long opposed the role of the British by not taking up seats it won in the power-sharing Northern Ireland Assembly.
Belfast-born in 1952, into a family close to the Irish Republican Army, by the late 60s he was in...

His dad was a family sex abuser, as was his brother. I feel pity for the shame and fear he will always carry in that. It surely affected him. Anti-Adams people also point to the photo of him VERY ALLEDGEDLY 'hiding behind a child as human shield' when some orange gangsters bombed and shot up the IRA funeral in 1998. Let us be clear, though. The photo proves nothing remotely near the 'human shield' allegation. We are not even sure where the gunfire may be coming from in that photo, as those attending the funeral were also not sure. As far as Adams and the many, many whispers and full investigations of his active or passive participation in doing or directing various murders in the past, while Sinn Fein President and as IRA leader? Well, sad to say but...yeah, many of those charges most likely are true or have elements of truth; so what? It was war. Everyone knows the IRA have murdered people and everyone knows the Brit soldiers, Ulsterman and other Orange thug associations have murdered people. To now dig up evidence of Adams' supposed involvement in any IRA/Sinn Fein-related deaths of years past, leak out well-timed stories about these events and then feign shock that Adams may have been directing the deaths of people opposed to the cause or who might subvert his leadership and thereby roadblocking his vision to IRA victory is absurd. The troubles were a war and both sides (or all sides) necessarily lived by double-dealings, politcal assassination, terror attacks, full-on pitched military conflict and whatever else it took to gain ground for their purposes. The pro-Orange political leadership in Norhern Ireland, British soldiers themselves and the many protestant and pro-British militant organizations-like the one that attacked the funeral in '98, killing several civilian mourners have a much-storied history of dealing death which is equal to or more sinister as Gerry Adams when he lead Sinn Fein and the IRA.

Exactly, Gerry Adams was the first person in history to make the IRA put down their arms. Extraordinary achievement.

I watched the panorama interview with him which was terrible so biased and anti -Irish, I am beginning to believe the British encouraged and stoked the troubles deliberately and are 100% to blame for much of the bloodshed

Not belief. Collusion is well known and proven in British courts and in tribunals multiple times. UVF have even publicly stated that MI5 asked them to shoot up a young girls primary school and also to assassinate haughy, to which they refused because in their words they are not monsters.
