My ex-girlfriend was in the SANDF, i have never ever seen an army like that. Uncoordinated, no way of planning ahead, no schedules, no reason, nothing. Once she was scheduled to go on an 8 week course, it lasted 16 weeks. That's not an army. it's a catastrophe.

Thank you for your informative narrative Hennie. It ought to be the duty of all implicated, concerned and objective thinking South Africans to appease and update themselves with the merits of any available and indisputable evidences. South Africans deserve the unequivocal truth and from impeccable sources before reacting and maybe storming speakers on stages

As a retired General Staff officer of the SANDF, I am deeply concerned (and saddened) by the public reprehension aimed at the current leadership. Although there are any amount of criticism going around, I do NOT subscribe to the fact that the SANDF is involved in death- or torture squad activities (hitherto not proven in any substantive way). Since the compulsory military training was stopped and the commando system closed down, like in rugby, you find these armchair generals who will at the drop of a hat cry "wolf" - but are incapable of influencing anything. In every country in the world you have military/security intelligence at work for obvious reasons, and their questioning methodologies differ, but nowhere is it intended to be a "lovers'spat" .... but if and when you do involve yourself with treacherous or undue activities, accept the consequences .... or find yourself another field to play on!!
However, the military/security services should NOT play at "cloak and daggers" sending out/shoot questionable arrows to this already highly politicized/sensitized peoples of SA!! .... points in question being the shenanigans by the ISIS in northern Mozambique, or the Lady R farce at Simonstown!!! ... in short, DO NOT underestimate or try to downgrade the intelligence of South Africans --- then don't feel aggrieved when they react neither!!!
