I always thought there was some kind of policy on youtube that was preventing creators from publicly discussing this for fear of legal action or something. Thanks for going into such depth it was really cool learning what feels like such forbidden knowledge
I think maybe the policies used to be more strict, that and a lot of people don't like to talk about the money they make. From what I understand after reviewing the policy before making this, the only thing that's restricted is showing the specific click-through rate percentages of a video which is interesting. I guess because that shows what thumbnails or titles work better and is some kind of insider-knowledge. It's awesome how all the monetization stuff works. I thought audience data would not be allowed since it's kind of creepy. We can see what viewers search for before ending up watching our video which often has hilarious and strange results.

Thank you! The scope of that Zelda/GBG project grew too big in my head and stressed me out. I ended up not posting anything for like a year haha/ that plus other things happening irl . I’m working back to retuning to it with an adjusted scale after I finish out this current Sonic one since so many people seemed to like it.
Do you think focusing more on building a strong community with patreon supporters, etc. rather than focusing on getting a lot of raw viewership would be a valid strategy? I'm interested in exploring alternative monetization models to ad revenue, especially considering the fact that youtube and other big platforms can be unreliable in paying their creators
It would be! I’ve heard great arguments for focusing on niching down and getting the most you can from smaller but more committed audiences. Patreon is great. One thing I noticed with patreon is that there can be two creators about the same size or relatively similar but one will have an insane level of patreon support while the other barely has any patreon supporters. I think you just need to provide a lot of value to supporters so they feel like you’re trying to do something for them in return. I’m taking way to long to set-up memberships/patreon because I don’t feel like I have much to offer 🤷♂️ And viewership can change very dramatically especially if the topics you cover are cyclical or go in and out of popularity.
I want to make a mechanic where you are a goomba and when you jump on other goombas you make a stack like in odyssey. But I don't find a way to "attach" them without teleports and I want to make big stacks! Do you have any tipps?

Yeah I know, I plan on continuing GBG content for the foreseeable future since I really owe that to the community that got me here and I still enjoy it. At the same time I already started to diversify and cover game design and guides for other games I’m playing. So I’ll keep doing more of that. I might even do some basic game programming hands-on things soon and see if people are into that. Thank you for your kind words! 😊
Hey dave, unrelated but do you have a video or advice on how to make it so that the camera changes to another nodon when i a nodon gets destroyed by a destructive object? thanks.
I would make the camera transfer over at the same time as you activate the destroy object nodon. I have a video on a FNAF multi cam and it shows how to switch between cams that would be helpful Basically just use a teleport entrance on a square holding the camera and change the teleport exit to determine the camera location.
