This video took me back to the time you recommended "Marriage and Morals" by Bertrand Russell to me. The first ever book & writer I read. It felt good to know more about him and his works. Great video. My most favourite part remains to be you quoting from the books, truly a treat to the ears and the mind. 🌷

"The best English sample " from his works establishes him as the GOAT in English literature.
My humble salute to Mr. Bertrand Russell.

This is such a great video essay; a vast yet lucid survey of Russell work with effortless charm! Russell was my first introduction to philosophy of logic and how to be rational in daily life. Though I've read 4 of his books, this video has made me think that there is more to Russell that is essential to explore. After watching this video, next I would be reading Fact and Faction or Marriage and Morals.

Good One! Nice to know in a nut shell about so many books written by Russel. Definitely look forward to reading them. Having said that, from what was told in the video what Russel said about Gandhi, it sounded that he was actually appreciative of British Colonialists. Saying that British rule was less cruel than Nazis and hence Gandhis strategy worked is difficult to digest. I am drawing my conclusion from the fact that if 6M Jews perished in holocaust then close to 3M Indians died in Bengal Famine of 1943 only. Not sure if the British Intellecuals saved the day for the crown

Russell, along with Gandhi and G B Shaw, was out and out a pacifist, and he was unequivocally critical of any violence and bigotry of any sort.
I see this comment of Russell as his being skeptical of non-violence as a tool of resistance, thereby drawing a parallel that it would have failed in the case of Nazis.

Thanks for this overview but I’ll pass on Mr Russel. While clearly thoughtful it doesn’t necessarily equate to his infallibility. Eg I find his refute of belief in a deity half baked and relies on a straw man of a “believer” as a mere panacea for the feeble mind as from a person who lived in a bubble of fantasies of his own thoughts. A prototypical neoliberal who never felt the consequences of when his ideas were just wrong wrong wrong and did not comport to reality while others that did would pay with their lives. His rationality for appeasement of Nazis for example. When his idea was wrong it simply didn’t matter to him because Nazis wouldn’t see him as anything other than a potential Nazi.
Whether they got into power or not his own life would not suffer to the degree that adherents to his ideas (who didn’t look like him) would pay dearly. It’s this sort of neoliberalism that have rise to liberals of a certain country going around the world imposing their ideals on others that succeed or fail for the adherents while they themselves would benefit either way. Kurt Godel or JohnNash brilliant but a society designed by their ideals would be hellish.
By my reading this guy put society on a trajectory of the negative aspects of Orwell/Huxley/Clinton/Obama/Blair/Zuckerberg/Gates/ChatGPT being coronated while Trump/Modi/Boris/Elon/Putin/ChatGPT/Rand all wait in the wings for the whole charade to come to an end where they can then take the Reigns….. in which case the former’s lives would not change one bit other than having to live with the discomfort of knowing they aren’t in charge. However Africa Dalits Proletariat or the working classes that believed naively accepted their position will find themselves howling as they watch their progeny wither before their eyes.

By no stretch of imagination, the aim of this video was to prove that he was infallible. Even Plato and Buddha were not infallible.

    • @augurcybernaut4785

@@thereadingquest3320 obviously but his fatuousness is of the kind that endangers others while he receives awards from other immune from the downside of his foppery. No risk to him. Super dangerous…. It’s the Clintons swearing this time around their plans for Haiti Honduras etc will help the people based on their assessment of the quality of their own solutions.
It’s Obama receiving the Nobel Peace Prize BEFORE even day one of his administration….as that committee ignores all history of USA presidents (not to mention mankind) and not even the integrity to claw back the award AFTER seeing his 8 year track record of bombing countries. When you put his ideas in practice you end up like him living in a fantasy that appeasement of Hitler is “smart” -- only to watch his Jewish friends howl in agony -- without the integrity to write a lengthy tome titled “The track record of my philosophy in practice (aka why you shouldn’t listen to me)”
