  • Exciting times: narrow shallow entrance at night, depth challenges getting into Spanish Wells, piloted through infamous Devils Backbone passage. And enjoyable times exploring Dunmore Town on Harbour Island and Spanish Wells.
    Our late decision to depart Nassau for Eleuthera meant we had a nervous entry into the very narrow and shallow channel of Royal Island Harbour, at low tide, in the dark and no leading lights! Once in, we hid from the next strong weather system for 2 days before heading the short but challenging distance to Spanish Wells. We literally bumped our way there, over the shallows!
    Rather than stopping in Spanish Wells we took the tide and weather window to continue onto Dunmore Town on Harbour Island, hiring the piloting services of Bruno to guide us through the very tricky Devils Backbone Passage.
    We enjoyed the delights of Dunmore Town and its fantastic beach for almost a week, while again hiding from another weather system. We nervously completed the passage back to Spanish Wells without a pilot, simply following our outward track on the plotter.
    Spanish Wells was a very pleasant surprise. We really enjoyed this small but prosperous little fishing community and its uniquely friendly people, before again heading south to cruise Eleuthera Peninsula. 4-14 Jan 2020

    I love your video's! The time you take to share the actual sailing and showing the destinations. I must say that I very much appreciate your modesty in addition to your happiness. Not all channels are so considerate both to the viewers and to yourselves! So thank you!

    Loved watching this episode with footage of Spanish Wells..worked years ago on a film shoot in Governors Harbour and had to come over to Spanish Wells often for Marine parts. Was amazed at the water quality there even in the Harbour with all of the lobster boats there, you could see right under them to the bottom, and from different angles was like they were floating on glass..like bathtub clear water.

      Yes, if there was one place we could live in the Caribbean it would be Spanish Wells. Great places to sail nearby and simply wonderful people.

    Well done Cloudy Bay crew!! Several years ago I was invited on a holiday to Spanish Wells by a very good friend, who actually lived there for 5 years back in the 90’s. I immediately fell in love with not only the natural beauty of that whole area, but also with the genuine kindness and hospitality shown by those who call Spanish Wells/Russel Island their home. I have been back on numerous occasions since that first visit and, I am now blessed to be able to call many of those good people my friend! As a matter of fact I should be back there in just a few weeks, staying in a little cottage directly in front of that amazingly beautiful sandbar!! 🤗

      jaap snake thanks for the nice comment. Much appreciated. We are a bit silly sometimes - but that’s just us in our natural state. If we ever try to stage a joke, it never works out!

    Wow that front yard was full of glass floats... Amazing!! Those glass bulbs are Japanese glass fishing floats... You are lucky to find them on beaches in the South Pacific. Rarely one might think to find them in the Caribbean. Or at least I thought....

    We were in Eleuthera last July for a week. So much plastic on the windward side beach near Governor's Harbour. Other than that, it was stunningly beautiful.

    Never picked up that you kited...very cool ! After your Bahamian adventure is done....would love your observations on an over 7' draft and it's limitations in those parts. Always well done , Cloudy Bay...

      @SailCloudyBay  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Peter Torrey I was always thinking that we could never see Bahamas because of out 8ft draft. But once used to it was have done just fine. Just need to use the tides to get in and out sometimes. Now we’ve done it, we would not have missed it for the world!

    We were just in Eleuthera Feb 8-15 , surprised you could get into Spanish Wells with your draft. Had a drink and snack at Coral sands , nice view from there

    Its always good to use Woody or a pilot the first time, then you can use your bread crumbs back......Are you guys using a new camera? The clarity and colors look different (better)....What drone are you guys flying?

    • @SailCloudyBay
      @SailCloudyBay  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, we are very glad we used a pilot. Money well spent. and he was so very nice too. The camera is a GoPro7. Yes, our last one was a GoPro6. The drone is a DJI Mavic Pro

  • @compagotv

    Love the 4k upgrade! Is that a GoPro? Crazy arrival at night through that narrow channel. Did you use spotlights? What is the tide difference in that area? Lovely footage.

    • @SailCloudyBay
      @SailCloudyBay  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Dale. Yes, GoPro7 with a fluffy housing. Nope ... no spotlights. Just the plotter and some nerves. tidal range is about 1m (39").

    What charting system did you think was the best for the bahamas?

    • @SailCloudyBay
      @SailCloudyBay  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      We used Navionics with sonar charts. But it seems the best to use are the Explorer charts

    Love your videos, lots of sailing, lots of fixing and as a christian I don't have to cringe all the time. I don't like these butt and boob channels. But I have a question, what country is she from, love that accent!
    You have inspired me to go sailing, will try to find a boat and bring my mom on one last adventure. We have agreed to sail untill she can't no more. We are selling everything and are moving aboard, on land we have nothing left. We will spend the summers in scandinavia and the winters in the Mediterranean and/or the canaries. Enough with this white stuff! :D
