I got this as my first lock for practicing and am going at it while watching your vid... after half an hour of messing around with it I finally got it! my first successful pick!
Since revisiting this hobby again a month ago, I've gotten _way_ more into it than before. 13ish years ago it was so hard to get ahold of lockpicks so I had to painstakingly make a few of my own. Now there's _so much_ fun stuff available! I've had a blast with the Revolver since getting it last week and I've bought around 25 locks. My Dark Shift set is almost a week late in the mail, and I've already got a purchase list for more Sparrows gear ready to send on Friday when I get paid. Out of the bajillion hobbies I have, I've never been as excited for one as I am this.
Can't wait to pick one up. Seems much easier to pick in hand than their old style cut-away locks. So cool that they decided to use your check pins for these.
Thank you for your videos. I enjoy them very much. I bought the Sparrows reload kit along with he standard pin cut away lock. I did have trouble with the 5 pins (standard) but for some reason, I found the 6 pins easier again standard pins. I don't think I am ready for the security pins yet. I need plenty of practice and more locks to play with. Keep up the excellent work.
I bought myself the eod full and my son the night school. I’ve been struggling for about 2 weeks and haven’t gotten the “easy” lock open yet. Happy with the kits and locks also happy you didn’t open it in 2 seconds.
I just got one of these for Christmas, and it is pretty challenging for a pure beginner, even with standard pins. I wish i knew how to take it apart and put the check pins in though.. im afraid im gonna break it. love your videos!
@@LockNoob I actually ordered a follower, a couple picks and a pinning mat as well. Took me about 8 tries of putting things in the wrong way, or having the springs and pins fall out just as I thought I was finished! Thanks to @BosnianBill for having such detailed videos on the subject!
Wow, I *really* enjoyed this tutorial Lock Noob ! I hope you do a bunch with these locks... it was really interesting seeing how you did this ( I'm guessing you did *not* look at the side window while picking it ) so it was super interesting to see how you went through the pins, and back and forth..... you could pick this 3 times and the video will always be different. SEEing how you do this, for a beginner is really important.... very nicely done Lock Noob ! Thank you ! 👍👍
I've bought 2, one with right hand cut out and one with left including a re-pinning kit. It should keep me going for ages especially when I start to add a 6th pin and stop looking!😉😊
Nice review bud! I have never had a cutaway like that and those pins are cool! I think it is a good price considering the practice aspect of it but in my opinion it should be capable of 7 chambers to be a great learning experience. Keep up the good work my friend!
I haven't opened it, but if it's using the normal core, it might be possible to pin to 6 pins, although you won't see the driver pin in the cutaway :-)
Just bought this lock with some shims (took your advice LN) from Sparrows. Customs slammed me for just over £11 extra 😠on the cost. Anyhow.... tried several times but unable to pick it as yet. The pins keep dropping and if I put more tension on I overset. Still it's a practice lock so practice I will do. Thanks for the lock review and the advice on shims 👍🏻
Where did you buy it (Sparrows Cannada or USA?) and what did they charge you for, just tax or import rights too? Because the EU and Canada have a trade agreement, which should prevent any customs charges. Except maybe sales tax.
I ordered this can't wait :p I pretty much got it because I wanted the lock + reload kit but the chess pins are super cool and since I want to use the reload kit anyway I figured why not get the chess pin version and hopefully have fun with it when I'm ready to have a go at them.
just recently oreder a set, was so excited when they arrived i had 2 open within 5 minutes of getting the package. The one with the "spools" is difficult. I havent opened it yet without the visual reference as the check pin always stumps me.
I’m new to picking, but I feel like the pins are too recessed in the body, it’s hard to see them. The older version looked more like it would be easier to see what is going on. I actually can’t hardly see pin one when leaning over as I pick. Was nice to see it isn’t just me that had to struggle with the key way, getting at the pins. A relief to see it does take some work. For me, again a newbie, seems also like bottom of key way tension often isn’t supplying the right force to turn this lock. Had much more luck with TOK tension as you wisely seemed to know right off the bat.
Great review 👍👍😃 I think I will wind up spending some more of my fiancés money to get one of these 😂😂 Also been having a great time with your check pins 😃👍👍
i want that sparrows lock and reload kit.dunno why the check pins are shiny on the sparrows page and in your private stash. worn out looking on the practice lock? different materials?
i'll check em out when i get finally get em, i figure i'll give myself a few months to get my skills up, then if i feel that i am a failure and need the practice lock and the reload kit like i plan. this is one of those things that i want, but don't want, but want. sooner or later i'll order em. i have to figure out i am lost and need em or i am good and need em? i dunno..i'll do it sooner or later.
Ok, maybe rough was the wrong word... Lets go with vintage :D It is a great looking lock (strange looking) I love the key, but I really like shiny locks. Just cant make my mind up on what one I like more :)
Ok so I'm new to lock picking I got a cheap Chinese set of picks right now waiting on some from sparrows hopefully be here tomorrow but my question is when I watch all your guys videos i hear a definite click, but when I pick my brinks padlock and master lock I never get a click do I need to add more tension?
Wow! A great new product from Sparrows - a cutaway featuring the Check pins Sparrows based on my design :-) www.sparrowslockpicks.com/product_p/qcutchess.htm
Cool. Ive just gotten one of these with spool pins in it (I'm very much a beginner). Havent had a chance to have a play with it yet, but it looks cool. Ive noticed though, at the gutting end if you like, there is what looks like another key hole that the key provided doesnt fit. Whats that about? Either way, nice video man - have a good one. :)
too bad it's not a springloaded barrell, because most locks are like this. So for a practicing lock I guess it would be better to have it this was as well. Nice video thx !
I ordered this immediately. I was really hoping for it to be released separately from the Night School sets. Your check pins are a bonus. Hahahaha... I bought the reload kit. I am not ready for them :)
I am pretty disappointed from the sparrows training locks. I also bought the reload kit that is pretty awesome at first sight. Especially for the price. But the first disappointment was that the green key does not work. I think I got the right pins but the tolerance are a little bit to high. The locks are pickable but the feedback is not great. These are cheap china locks. They simulate an well aged lock with rusty pins. But the pins are not really springy. 30 bucks for the cut away lock is pretty expensive. I spend another 80 for the Multipick Training cylinder. That’s a dawn pretty lock and come also with some security pins for repinning. Definitely the better choice.
Yess... thank goodness for "take 2" btw, I just ordered that lock... looks like a lot of fun to play with, and much easier to pick in the hand than a KIK cylinder, and a lot smaller than fitting it into an adapter
Just received it... lot of fun. It came with a really low pin in front, and a really high one next. It bound up in the order 1'2'3'4'5'6'5 Really pretty tough even while looking at it. Thanks again for the review.
I think while bricks and windows exist, you don’t have to worry about people enjoying manipulating locks they own for their own enjoyment. Lock picking takes far too much time, practice, skill and tools to be practical for most criminals. Martial arts classes show you how to injure and kill people… shall we ban those too? What about people showing videos of chopping wood? You could use those skills to hurt people… probably best ban everything just to make sure.
I got this as my first lock for practicing and am going at it while watching your vid... after half an hour of messing around with it I finally got it! my first successful pick!
Awesome!
Just bought the Sparrows night school set and this video is Everything I needed to know, many thanks for your time.
Note: All sparrows locks are randomly pinned!
Each has a unique key.

I could listen to your voice all day!
Thank you 😊
Lovely looking piece of kit there.
Bosnian bill just put a vid on that one and showed your pins !!!
Thanks :-)
As a noob myself, it's great to see an experienced hand picking a cutaway lock. Thank you for this video!
Thanks i
The pins are my absolute favorite!! Gives some awesome feedback!!
thank you :-)
Can't wait to pick one up. Seems much easier to pick in hand than their old style cut-away locks. So cool that they decided to use your check pins for these.
Yeah, it's like a commercial challenge lock :-)

Just bought one of these with standard pins, the sparrow reload kit and a set of tweezers. This should be really fun!

Neat looking lock. That will have to be on my next Sparrows order. Thanks.

Hope you like it :-)
I'm new to picking and it's nice to have Jarvis to learn from.
Lol
I ordered one last week and can't wait to try out some of your pins. So cool!
Have fun :-)
I am a fan of your check pins, although I might change my mind when I actually get to try picking some.
Well, I hope you have fun with them :-)
Just got these for Christmas, can’t wait to see how these pins preform!!
I really hope you enjoy them!

I also like the look of this lock a lot. Very cool idea with the check pins. Thanks for the review :-)

Sweet closeups! I've been a little frustrated with my 2020version (oversets, and not always knowing which pin # I'm on), and this was helpful. 👍👍

Where from
Yet another nice review mate, I love the looks of the new sparrows training lock.
I do too, it a few people have said that it isn't quite their thing 🤔
I bought 3 of the progressive locks from Sparrows…. I re pinned one with your Chess piece pins! Quite a Great idea on your part. Thanks!
Well crafted, but these are not difficult to pick, although fun. Great feedback too.
Got a bag of these in my reload kit.
I just ordered this setup yesterday with your custom made chess pieces, then I come across this video today.
I ordered one of these with standard pins to learn spp on , a really a great tool...
I think so too :-)
Good show! I Need 2 get one! And nice picking mr.noob.
Thanks :-)
I like the vice for holding it
The cutaway is nice when you start cutting and impressions blank keys
I never thought of that but I agree :-)

How did they drill the holes for the springs???
Lol 😆 I just requested a video showing how to put your locks back together and found your Sparrows reload kit and now this with the Chess pieces?
Yes

Have you made any videos, about using, ie changing the pins in the Cut-Away lock?
Nice pick and video. Very nice lock 🔐
Thanks :-)

No, they look shiny close up, but brass dulls over time naturally anyway. I think it’s the shadowing inside the Cutaway that is ‘dulling’ them :-)

Silly question..any way I could use this as an actual lock? Thinking about using it for practice and would be extra nice if it also functions
Its a cut-a-way so I like it but it looks a bit rough to me. Think I prefer the other type. Great review again dude
Rough? I think that's the 'look' it seems well finished to me, but I guess the kik version is more shiny :-)

Both depending on price!

nice pick.............thanks for the video.

I think the bible is actually 6 stacks, so you could repin it for 6 but you wouldn't be able to see the driver in the last stack.
I think you’re right :-)
I wish they had threaded the bible so the pins had something to grab.
My key has the same bitting pattern but yours is one deeper notch on each pin?
Nice one lock noob.....
Thanks :-)
Idk why I’m watching. I’ve only picked like 3 different locks. All standard
Because picking is fun!
Lock Noob it is indeed
Seems like it could be a fun hobby, but at the same time i get pretty frustrated when i cant complete a task, so idk.
why do people like you show the cowmen robbers how to open a lock to help people get there goods stole i think you should be band off TH-cam
