Thanks for checking it out and taking the time to write a comment! I’m going to look up the control arm drainage. My brother knows about it but hasn’t tried it yet, so maybe my Jeep will be the test dummy. Do you have any spray recommendations? We know guys use motor oil in winter time, but don’t have any experience w specific products designed for it
I haven’t coated it yet. I have to check but I’m pretty sure the inside rails are still all factory paint inside. So when I do, I hopefully will be able to skip stripping them down of rust. Thank you for all the great info. I don’t plan to drive her in the NY salt just yet. I’ve still got a winter rat kickin haha
If you plan to go out a lot with your dogs, and rarely have a need for more than one passenger, pull the rear seat, build a 6"-8" high storage platform out of 3/4" plywood between the rear wheel wells, throw some indoor/outdoor carpet on the platform, and install some cargo netting behind the seats, tensioned between the roll cage. I can throw my window uppers, straps, some tools, a blanket, etc in the storage area below the platform, and my dog has a huge, stable, comfy spot with views from every angle, and still tons of room for a couple of duffels or backpacks.
That's an awesome idea! I was also thinking if I go mountain biking somewhere I should build some flat piece to cover where the rear and passenger seat so I can sleep in the Jeep at night haha. Thanks for checking out the Jeep
Brother...Up here in Western Canada...just picked up this same model...03, low miles, rubicon, and the 5 speed, less than 100, 000 miles....New tires, wheels, lots of stuff upgraded, but still needed little bits.....My first reality...31 inch wheel on the tailgate...man it sprung open like it wanted to escape....looking to go extreme terrain bumper/tire combo...watched it be installed....no need for drilling, it just fits right onto the existing hole pattern. was lucky to get a good condition hardtop, super good shape soft top and a bikini top....Enjoy the Rubi....and loved the drive by thing....it just crawls....
Hey sorry I must have missed this comment notification! Thanks for checking out my Jeep and I can pick up the excitement you have for yours! Sounds like you got an awesome one. I know y'all have some gnarly trails out there that she needs to be ready for. Letting her crawl is my absolute favorite haha
My dad and I️ just picked up an 04 rubicon, same color and a 5 speed. Got it from a friend of mine for $500…..catch is the driver side frame is rotted. In due time it’ll be fixed 😼
I put about 26k on in the 2 years I have owned my 06 Rubicon. Approaching 209k miles. The 6 speed has been trouble free and shifts nicely. You have to pretend you are shifting an old UPS truck and not a Porsche. Slow and gentle shifts. Learn when by sound and feel. Mine is about 2500-2900 RPM. First gear is super short. I love driving 2 lane roads in 4th gear at 35-40 mph and about 2500 RPM. Runs good on the highway too. Just not super fast. It will keep up on the highway at 65-70 MPH and run about 2750 RPM forever. If yours is higher mileage, plan on new catalytic converters and O2 sensors. Summit Racing has a nice Flowmaster that is built well and pretty affordable. I replaced the muffler on mine with a new stainless cat-back by MBRP (also from Summit). The whole system was about $650. Runs and sounds fantastic! Enjoy the Rubicon!
Haha I'll be sure to shift nice and slow! They are awesome vehicles and I hope the transmission lasts because I plan to have it for years. Thanks for the info and checking out my Jeep. I appreciate you taking the time to interact as well
Your transmission needs new synchros. You don't have to replace them, but it will shift like new again if you do and you won't have to match the rpm to the input shaft speed nearly as much.
It was tight, but apparently I did the best trails (east side) first. Not a huge fan of the technical ascents, but the descents were tight. Hoping to hit up dryer rd Thursday if its dried out enough. Looking forward to some greek peak this summer hopefully if things clear up.
Before rust starts....spray the inside of that frame....and drill drain holes right by the control arm mounts...look it up....nice jeep

Clay Fick look up 3m internal frame coating or Eastwood they both have a longgggggg nozzle to attach to the spray can
Thanks, Matt! I appreciate the advice

Ghost ride the whip
You know who we are !
Nice grab. You give up on mountain biking? LOL i hope not! I just hit shindagin the other day
Haha never that! I've been tooling around in the sunshine but haven't hit trails yet. How was Shindagin?

I don’t have much Shindagin experience. Eventually things will get back to normal. I don’t think Greek opens until like May anyway
NEVER, EVER, EVER get out of a moving vehicle. You obituary will, be in the next newspaper.
Gotta die sometime
Not with that crawl ratio
Isn’t replacing that windshield with insurance after the fact insurance fraud lol
I hope you have a great day, officer !
