Bill - thanks for these fun reviews - I bought my SL with your help here. Re the instrument panel - it is patterned after an older Alfa Romeo cluster in layout and design. I owned five 72-85 Alfas - all had that layout. This was a big plus for Alfa owners like me who feel right at home in the SL R230. Bruno Sacco , the R230 Italian designer knew exactly what he was doing when he threw in elements of Alfas and of course the original 300SL design - from the physical dimensions to the fake air vents.

Great car, owned one for years. From a 250 C to an AMG 500 Sl, I’ve enjoyed them all. Although I really like your review , few people carry ammo clips and Perrier in their cars.
Mercedes R230 SL500........all these years later & still one of the most beautiful cars in the world !! Elegant & powerful ! Shame the new front styling design from 2012-2018 are as ugly as hell.... the new look SL's look like any other high end aggressively styled car from the front ! These R230's are beauties, even now in 2018 :)
I agree that the minimalist Mako shark snout of the R230 and its sleek feline curvature is far easier on the eyes than all those hideous snow-plow air intake scoops, massive spoilers, and barbecue grills that so many cars sadly including Mercedes began to disfigure cars made after 2010.
I’ve got a 2003 model with the AMG Package, black on tan interior.. an amazing car, better ride than my newer cars and a great Bose system.. still has the rockstar look lol.. lovely area too
Bruno, Imm considering buying a 2003-2006, whats been your experience reagrding the ABC and maintenance and repairs, Ill be looking for a low mileage vehicle under 60K miles, thanks
@@leotrevino5158 Hello Leo...sorry for the late reply, i don't log on often enough here lol.....I've got the '03 model and really love it...its only got about 105,000 KM on it so thats rouhgly 60,000 miles....i don't drive it much at all so i have never really had any repair issues...i have done some "A" service at the dealership close to me and they always go over everything..i was told my car was in great shape and that it runs very tight, everything working perfectly...the service advisor said its been a long time since he saw one in the condition that mine is in, he says its worth more that what i paid for it 10 years ago due to the situation here with shortages of vehicles coming in....the used car market has really taken off and prices going up... I'm picky when it came to buying, i went to see about 20 of them and i had a specific colour combo i wanted..took me awhile but i did come across the black with light tan interior...over 90% had the grey interior which i found too bland, less detail...Plus i did not buy private or from some overnight corner used car dealership....don't rush into buying, its worth waiting until you find whats perfect for you...

Room for the ammo clips "LoL" placement area to put your M16 in the back with the seatbelt holders great narration bro! In the beginning of the video with the birds you should have zoomed in on them cute! That car would be perfect for Arnold Schwarzenegger in the movie the Raw Deal!!!

I search for a month and 1/2 and I finally got my car I'm in St. Louis theyre sparse in the Midwest. My has ample power and classic Mercedes would and roundheadlights I Love the Thing I was so heartbroken when my Mercedes got totaled but I think I got a better one
I agree that space behind the front seats would be an ideal location to strap in one's trusty AR with piggy-backed mags, to impose sanity during those perilous trips to the supermarket located deep in bat country. On a serious note, the R230 is such a sexy car to look at from any perspective. My 2009 CLK 550 weighs 500 pounds lighter than this deceptively compact-looking R230, giving the CLK (w209) a significant edge over the R230 from a thrust-to-weight ratio standpoint, but that doesn't stop me from lusting in my heart over the R230, as Jimmy Carter owned up experiencing now and then as he gazed at The Promised Land from within the restrictive bounds of holy matrimony.
Nice car Bill. I unfortunally do understand the mechanical issues with aged MB's It's a bear to keep my 2008 S550 on the road-My wife wo'nt allow me to curse in front of it-hurt it's feelings.
Went to coilovers with mine and surprisingly take my handling and my speed improved depending on what you have them set at I rode mine in the sport mode they're comfort is kind of nice
I love this car. But seriously here you can strap in an assault rifle ? Its not a G Class. Who is actually storing an assault rifle in a luxury convertible. What would be a scenario ? Going to a shooting range ? Also you drive topless with an assault rifle in the back that can be easily accessed by a bunch of strangers while you are standing infront of a red light.
One of the best looking cars in the world 🌍 even after all these years, it's still a eye turner and looks up to date and modern
