Speaking as bassist and vocalist. Ic you can hack a bassline by the Icons themselves BOLT THROWER this well. U r way ahead of the game. You made that Fender Precision sound incredible. The p bass is my main as well. Very tight and accurate.
Fuck yeah! Bolt Thrower is still one of the most underrated death metal bands. Maybe they get more shine in Europe, I don’t know. But in North America, no one ever talks about them.
In the circles I hang out in, there probably isn't a more unanimously appreciated death metal band. At this point, it's almost a cliché to hype them up. One of the best ever.
It's a damn shame N-America isn't on board with the Bolt-Thrower legions. Here in The Netherlands they are held in the highest regard and I saw them many times over the years. One tour they even had my compatriot Martin van Drunen (ex-Pestilence, Asphyx) on vocals.
I don't know the song, but it is a super fkng awesome cover, the bass blends with the song so seamlessly.... Most bass cover in yt kind of feels disconnected from the song imo..
Oh man! I recorded this a while ago, so I don't remember exactly, but I think the trick with getting the Jo Bench sound was to set the grunt switch to boost, cut the attack, boost both the mids slightly and roll the tone back off the bass. Then just crank the drive and blend until it sounds right.
@@smitchellbass thank you so much for this! I’m glad I asked because I wouldn’t have thought to do the attack / grunt settings like you did or to boost lo and hi mids & scoop the bass a little bit
@@nickys4650 when I say roll the tone back on the bass - I mean the literal tone control on the bass, not the bass control on the pedal! you don't wanna cut any of that low end
@@nickys4650 Hope it works out! It's worth nothing that my bass has the "greasebucket" tone circuit, or whatever it's called, which I think means that the tone control doesn't boost the low end as much as a standard bass, it *just* rolls off high end.
Loads of metal bass tone tutorials etc. will vastly overcomplicate it. All you need is a good bass (I'm just rocking a precision here, the jazz pickup isn't turned on in this) and a good drive. Don't go too overboard with treble, don't neglect low mids and bass (I've actually got the tone control rolled off about 50% here if I remember correctly). Play about and use your ears - everybody hits the strings differently so we could have the exact same rig and sound very different. The drive I'm using here is the Darkglass B7K, but you can do about the same job with any good drive with a blend control. Play hard, and then that's about all you need!
I used my Darkglass B7K Ultra V2. I think it's quite underappreciated in its capacity for crushing old school tones like this, most people only seem to use it for that super shrill modern bass OD.
this is by far my most popular video and i forgot to mirror it. agony.
Could you tell me the signal chain? Cheers man!

@@smitchellbass understood, thank you! And again that's useful because usually for heavier music I have the tone pot on full blast on my P.

What guitar strap you got here? Look pretty nice.
Signal chain?
Dude are ya using the bridge pickup?
I don't *think* so, not for this cover. it was a while ago!
Tabs?
What pedal did yall use for this?
