I have never had a helicopter rescue on a cruise, but I have woke up in mornings many times with announcement that ship took a detour during night to another port for someone needing medical treatment. It happened two nights in row on one cruise. Just happy that the ships are equipped to take care of their passengers.
I've been on a few cruises. I have seen several people removed from the ship for medical problems. I have also be around people who have have issues during embarkation. One woman fell and rolled down the escalator and I stopped and caught her falling any further during embarkation at Fort Lauderdale onto the Caribbean princess she was removed by ambulance. In Vancouver leaving the hotel boarding the bus I tried to catch someone from falling as they tripped on the terrazzo to the non slip surface. What a hard hit but refused treatment. Very strong lady as they were traveling from the UK on the Alaska trip. I watch princess and paramedics approach her several times to check on her.
My partner stresses on travel days and it absolutely ruins my good mood. Nothing is a problem for me until it keeps me from arriving at my destination. Being delayed for 15 minutes is enough to set him off even though he knows I plan every trip with his physical limitations taken into account as well as with three hour buffers built in to each phase to cover issues beyond our control.

We’re in our 60’s now. It helps us to have airport transportation to the cruise ship. It takes some stress off of us. We book everything through our cruise line. Especially if we travel internationally. They book hotel and transportation.

We were on Regent on an Iceland and Greenland cruise. Only managed to get to Nuuk as too much ice flow. Regent gave us 20% credit and 50% off selected cruises in 2025. Costs the cruise lines loads of money. Don’t know why the lines out Greenland on their schedules as it’s a really tricky place to go to with the icebergs and fog!
Wow just can't understand how people like this man can get release so sad, I agree that embarkation can be very stressful and could cause a few medical issues.
Really enjoyed your cruise videos with Tony on your Greenland, Iceland, Ireland cruise. I would just do the Iceland cruise with the Faroe Islands and skip Greenland on an Oceania ship. Bond is set based on the crime, the victim, and the risk the defendent poses. With so little information in this story, it is difficult to put ourselves in the judges place as far as setting bond. We also do not know what bond restrictions there are for instance does he have a locator on his ankle. And nobody has seen said video except the law.
I hope the pwrdon with the medical emergency is ok. If your fruited is going to be canceled, it is good to happen well in advance. The criminal that abused the child should be thrown in jail, with no bale!
Travel days are always stressful for me. So…while I always look forward to embarkation day, it is a preference to book my hotel and transfers through the cruise line. This cuts down on the stress so I can relax a bit and just enjoy the process and excitement of boarding that ship.
I had a missed port in Iceland on Caribbean princess, the cruise before yours. We got no accommodation we got no compensation, and the most annoying part is as we sailed by the port the next day (the intended port day), the weather looked perfectly fine… Very frustrating. Being on a crowded ship for an extra day is no fun at all.
Embarking shouldn’t be so strenuous. Once you’re inside the building, there seems to be an employee every ten feet, replace them with obvious signage and send them outside.
I would think you have to know going to the northern destinations. You might just have some bad weather and should expect you may have some port cancelations.

When people go out in public with children. They have to be careful. Like riding a train or plane be the person that sets in the seat that divides you from the public and your kid. Hurd mentality. Everyone potty time is at the same time. On a cruise try to avoid public bathrooms and use the your cabin. Be alert. Say something.
The man arrested on that MSC cruise is a monster and should not be allowed to post bond & walk freely, imho! BUT where were the boy’s parents??? News reports say that this incident happened in a hot tub. I personally am not letting my 6 yr old play in a hot tub (or anywhere else for that matter) alone without supervision! If you won’t do it on land, you shouldn’t do it at sea. There are the same bad people on both!
You were incredibly lucky to have made all of your tender ports in Greenland. Cruisers need to know how "iffy" those stops are when sailing to Greenland.

Interesting stat about more medical emergencies happening on embarkation day. I can believe that even anecdotally, as I watch the live cam feeds from the port of Miami and often see ships returning to the port even before getting to open water due to a medical emergency.
I will never forget on one of our cruises back awhile we were in Grand Cayman. The ship had to be moved because of rough seas and vendors could not get to ship. Well they moved to another part of there and vendors were awful. Our vendor was told go back go back he di not listen we smashed right into ship.omg was awful my husband could of drove it better. Everyone was so scared. Well the roof smashed the thing was close to tipping it went down the side of the ship totally scratched up by it. When we got off that tendor we were so scared. We landed at end of ship right by this huge propeller wow what a experience. Never went again through anything like it. One lady said I will never cruise again. I told her don't let this ruin your thoughts on cruising. I had been 25 times and nothing like this ever happened. But if it was my first cruise it may of been my last. Lol

The problem is that the law makers and the judges think that reprehensible acts of that kinds are actually pleasurable to the victim and that it really doesn't hurt us. My dad was so addicted because of the reprehensible act done to him from age 2 on, that he was very scared he would create victims too. He bent over backwards and put fences up to make sure he didn't do evil to others. The addiction is real and people don't just will it away by simply paying money or going to prison for a few years or extreme will power. Once an addict, always an addict is true for alcohol, drugs and this as well. (Purposefully not saying it.) I hope someone wises up and he either gets life or offed in prison.
To be taken off your cruise on the first day though medical reasons must be devastating. You will be looking forward so much to your holiday on the ship and then you are in the back of an ambulance or in a basket being airlifted to hospital. We are trying something a bit different in December, you should give it a go too MSC Yacht Club. No queues, no hassle, a butler to help out with anything you need. Then there's the ship within a ship, where you are separated from the turmoil of the crowds. And on MSC it doesn't cist that much more. So why not, give it a go.
Its a shame MSC canceled that cruise. That would have been a beautiful cruise for sure. That man should be prosecuted to the fullest extent. That is just disgusting. Hopefully the passenger and his family who got rescued are safe and getting the proper medical attention.
I was on Sapphire Princess on the way to AK and we had to go several hours out to sea to be a wind break in high seas for a rescue of two guys off a sailboat with a broken rudder. So exciting as it occurred right off our balcony in high seas with high wind and the ship lights darkened but we did miss the Deadliest Catch excursion!!!!
That disgusting thing should not be our on bond!!! He will more than likely disappear. The poor little boy will be scared for life and the guy will move on to another victim, probably doing a better job not to get caught. No Bail for these Crimes!!
I will sometimes get a little stressed on embarkation day but my wife will settle me down by reminding me that we are here to relax and just go with the flow.

An aging population is ripe for medical emergencies. Travel insurance should be part of everyone's plan.

We learned that we could really cut down on embarkation day stress by avoiding the buffet and finding lunch somewhere else.

We had a helicopter evacuation for a lady on iona in april. They handled it so fast about 11pm on the last night of the cruise
I was on a ship and we were only out for about an hour when we turned around for a medical emergency. We were going to be at sea for several days.

Nuuk Greenland is the capital and has a dock. The Caribbean Princess stopped there last summer.

Super normal on every Princess cruise since 80% or more of the passengers are elderly.
