Grandes musicos y grandes seres humanos, que son capaces de expresar de una manera muy refinada lo que son y lo que somos los seres humanos. Mucho Arte en todo esto, Felicidades!!!
Great stuff. Burton is transcendental; catch him live at any price, folks. Weckl's groove and mullet are in full splendor -- I wonder if that massive plumage helps him swing so hard.
Right you are. Bells can be found in orchestras also. (hence: orchestra bells) They are usually 2 octaves with no resonators and played with small steel ball mallets are ones made of hard plastic on a horizontal table. Vibes are completely different.
The guy on the xylophone is AWESOME!!! I used to hate them because my band teacher in high school was/is a douche. But this guy is just too good and I have to respect it and love it as well. And I just LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE how smoothly the horns back up the flutist during his solo from 3:41-3:45. It's just so lovely man. 5 stars!!!!!
This is the second time I've had one of those "I wonder" moments about instruments used in jazz and had this song crop up. Last time it was jazz panpipes!
...wow! Check out that vibraphonplay! Performance like this makes me happy and jelous. Jelous in that sence that i'd love to be in a band like this! ...wow!
He didn't say bells he said 'vibes' which is what the instrument is, a vibraphone. The bars are aluminum instead of wood and the tubes have a sort of vibration mechanism that creates vibrato and sustain when needed.
It's arguing like this that makes people turn away from jazz music -- as jazz musicians, I think we all have a duty to educate and encourage people, offering only constructive criticism, even to artists who aren't around. Otherwise, newcomers will always be afraid of being harshly judged and/or slandered. Jazz shouldn't be about a pissing contest of namedropping and street cred, it should be about enjoyment and love of music... but most of all, cooperation! That's what makes it great!
The piccolo solo is in F, then they transpose into the original key of Ab for the vibes, then back to F for the head out, so i guess the piccolo needed it to be transposed.
Eddie Davis sure makes jazz clarinet a retro icon! I play jazz on my clarinet too, and I insist everybody that it, as well as any other instrument, belongs in jazz! I was also thrilled to see a jazz piccolo player!
Jesus. I've never heard Gary play a Be-Bop song or Post-Bop. I've heard him solo but not a song itself. Hes on fire. The piccolo too. Never heard a real jazz piccolo.
@seanwmalone Vibraphone....my bad man, lol. I know what you mean because I play bass and people are like, "Oh you play guitar huh?" I go, "bass.....BASS!!! This has 4 strings not 6." lol But yeah Gary is awesome...I clearly watched his solo over and over until it got better each time. But I'll remember which ones are wood and which aren't haha.
Wow! That arrangement just blew me away! And how great aren´t those solos?!! Btw, doesn´t Nelson Rangell look a bit like Pat Metheny in this video, with all the hair and all that? :)
in ur opinion. Its all what you think is good. Some people think coltranes playing sounds like shit when he starts playing out, others think its the best thing ever. its all in the eye of the beholder.
+Jason Cho - Pretty sure he did intend to say "university", as in school, because everyone was playing at the same time in different rooms, comparing it to classrooms.
I love the classic Charlie Parker chord changes and the creativity with instrumentation. Solos were phenomenal, as expected.
BARBAROS!!! impecables... bellos seres tienen que ser para que les salga todo eso...!!!
Eddie daniels' ear is just beyond compare.
most amazing vibraphone ive ever seen in my LIIIIIIFE!!!!1
Gary burton was absolutely burning!
Grandes musicos y grandes seres humanos, que son capaces de expresar de una manera muy refinada lo que son y lo que somos los seres humanos. Mucho Arte en todo esto, Felicidades!!!

Gary Burton is the best!
FANTASTICI, SEMPLICEMENTE FANTASTICI!
Great stuff. Burton is transcendental; catch him live at any price, folks. Weckl's groove and mullet are in full splendor -- I wonder if that massive plumage helps him swing so hard.
e Gary Burton? divino! explendido!!!!!
All these dudes are awesome !!!
Love this concert jazz with these great soloists and rich tone-colour.
@JazzBass7 And... Btw, that's Gary Burton... Probably the most significant player of the instrument in the last 50 years.
'All Stars'. So right. great soloists and nifty arranging, big band style. A feast.
Gary Burton..wow,what a man!!

My opinion... but I believe Eddie Daniels is the best jazz clarinetist alive!!
I was really hoping for Pat Metheny at the picolo xD
This is amazing!
My clarinet skills couldn't ever be this good, not even in my wildest fantasy. I guess that's why it sits on the shelf. LOL!
I love daniels! and i love how they altered the chord structure in his solo at 4:13
that was just a fantastic rendition...i hope that they do another album soon!!!

He didn't say bells he said 'vibes' which is what the instrument is, a vibraphone. The bars are aluminum instead of wood and the tubes have a sort of vibration mechanism that creates vibrato and sustain when needed.

The guy on bass is John Patitucci!

4:43 Jerry springer is a beast on the baritone LMAO!
amazing.
Everyone has the right to criticise CONSTRUCTIVELY.
3:33 Eddie Daniels
best 2 opening phrases
Super!!!!
The piccolo solo is in F, then they transpose into the original key of Ab for the vibes, then back to F for the head out, so i guess the piccolo needed it to be transposed.
A better word for transposed in this case is 'modulated'.
@@JanHough yes you're right, thanks
Eddie Davis sure makes jazz clarinet a retro icon!

Excelent!!

Dave Weckl is cool!
@seanwmalone Vibraphone....my bad man, lol. I know what you mean because I play bass and people are like, "Oh you play guitar huh?" I go, "bass.....BASS!!! lol, I am going through versions of this song, playing along. hahaha, I don't think I have it down in this key yet :P
vibes are a c instrument, so it would be same as the concert key.
GRP big band that is
Wow! That arrangement just blew me away! And how great aren´t those solos?!!
Btw, doesn´t Nelson Rangell look a bit like Pat Metheny in this video, with all the hair and all that? :)
@djbot nah man. indiana was first, then miles davis took the chord changes and wrote a bebop head over it. and now we have donna lee
Mr. Patitucci walking that bass...
It is called vibraphone.
Nelson Rangell does play a mean Priccolo,oh I meant Piccolo LOL.
Who's theat guy on piccolo, he's amaazing
EDDIEE!!! :D
He had long hair back then.
in ur opinion. Its all what you think is good. Some people think coltranes playing sounds like shit when he starts playing out, others think its the best thing ever. its all in the eye of the beholder.
eddie daniels rocks
Donna in F sounds little oddly.
Achh, what I can say? All stars! Great:).
run forest run!
Does anyone know if they published an arrangement of this version of Donna Lee
did anybody publish the GRP arrangements?
Tom selleck can really shred the old licorice stick eh!
ezt nem lehet elégszer meghallgatni! :D
how do bells refers to MARIMBA??!!!
You say like I don't know already
and I'm sure Charlie Parker is probably all you know
00:28 he said "it was like in university of music," but I think he meant to say *universe of music
+Jason Cho - Pretty sure he did intend to say "university", as in school, because everyone was playing at the same time in different rooms, comparing it to classrooms.
+CarolAnnSD aha thnx for the explaination :)
