My comparison to the 21st century:
    1) 1985: soldiers raise their legs lower.
    2) 1985: more parade uniforms vs. 2000s: more combat uniforms.
    3) 1985: soldiers carry less guns, and if so, across their breast. 2000s: soldiers carry guns direct their guns forwards.
    4) 1985: soldiers look calmer vs 2000s: soldiers look tense.
    5) 1985: less decorations (or is it just because only a small section of the parade is shown?)

the goosestep style of north korea during this time period is not actually "soviet style" as people are pointing out
if one were to compare the soviet parade of 1985 and this parade, you'd see that the soviets sort of step "in" to their step more, providing a much more "rolling" feel to the march as the feet do not slam onto the ground as abruptly
it is much closer stylistically to the original germanic/prussian form of goosestepping, seeing how it is also looser in total movement than the chinese style of goosestepping, but the step is also equally much more abrupt when they hit the ground, which makes it closer to how the east germans marched, but a little bit more aggressive

@@Яни-д8о they weren't really prosperus after the mid 70s. Central planning started to go sour around that time because of resources mismanagement. But there was still alot of Soviet money and fuel going in, while the south started to pick up around this time although with terrible social problems and corruption. But I have no doubt that in 85 north korea was much more impressive to the south than it is today. Now the gap between the koreas is abismal. And although I am not a socialist and believe the kims are terrible, the fact is in the 60s and 70s north korea has had some success in improving the living standards and was impressive at that time compared with other asian nations, south korea included.

Rumor has it that this military parade was one of the first ones to be videotaped. This is reinforced by the presence of the Mercedes limousine (during the first few seconds) that used as an OB unit during the 1992 parade as well. It’s likely KCTV’s hardware and and technology wouldn’t have changed much by the time of the 1992 celebrations. However, if the broadcast still exists in KCTV’s archives, it’s quite unlikely that it would ever see the light of day again, let alone be aired on TV.
North Korea’s three generational punishment system would’ve prevented its re release as some officials who attended the parade would’ve been purged or have defected since then. I also recall that once the punishment applies, the North Korean authorities would do their best to wipe out any proof of their families’ existence.
So, If there’s just too much of them, excessive footage would have to be cut, making it impossible for a whole broadcast to be re-aired.Just like the 1992 parade’s re-airing where O Jin U’s speech was cut, probably because a purged official, or one that has fled North Korea was present in close proximity to O as he delivered his keynote address.
The same applies to the 1993 parade commemorating the 40th anniversary of the end of the Korean War, where the creator of the Juche ideology, Hwang Jang-Yop (he defected in the late 1990s) had stood only a few feet away from Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il. Only parts from a music video, a Japanese issue short summary of the civilian part of the TV broadcast, as well as a Russian amateur film of certain parts such as the bands’ march-in, troops’ inspection, keynote speech, march-past, civilian demonstration, and the finale where the leader and prominent guests would greet the attendees exist, at least in TH-cam.
One must also recall that no one except the elite can tell KCTV to re release any old TV broadcasts.

But because of the support from foreign countries, it simply comfort the government and the people, and Kim it sung had no capability at all to develop its economy and technology without these support. After Soviet Union collapse, everything in this country was down. The government started to lie not only to its people, but also to the entire world.

Initially, North korea was better off than south korea because the Empire of Japan during the occupation (1910-1945) had built so many factories in the north, North Korea had a industrial boost, but the reason that they are not good now is due to the fall of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.
