- In this video I take a photograph shot in bright sunlight and process it using Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop to a dramatic Black and black-and-white image. I completed a sky replacement using Adobe Photoshop and finish the processing back in Lightroom. I hope you enjoy the tutorial.

Jamie, do you have a mental picture of how you want your finished image to look and work toward that goal, or do you just sort of adlib? I struggle with post-processing because I look at the original, and I'm never sure what the final image should look like. Not just transforming an image into B&W like you do but with "normal" processing. Great post, I really like your content!
Hi Walter, as time has gone along and I have become very familiar with Adobe LR and PS, I start to see what I want the final image to look like when I take it on the camera. If I cannot see the end result when I shot it, I take many shots from many different angles and exposures, so I can look at them on the computer later, and then ponder how best to proceed. It is strange as I look at the scene through the camera and think, I could add a radial filter here or there, make this darker or that lighter, so I aways shoot RAW and I always shoot to get the final result, hence why when you look at my RAW images, they are aways dark, as I have exposed for the highlights. Modern cameras are so capable of recovering the shadows, and modern software so good at correcting noise, that I very rarely shot HDR any more (as you can see from my videos) unless the lighting is extreme (sun directly in the shot). All my Video are done ad-lib, no practice, what you see on screen is me thinking and processing my way into the image :-). Thank you very much for the question !

Another way around the virtual copy routine is to simply create a snapshot in the develop module. You can create a snapshot for the edit work or you can create the final version, make a snapshot for it and then reset the original. Virtual copies may be the best approach if you are using PS or external editors. I haven't tried that approach.

Lovely tutorial Jamie.....I know that part of the world very well but I have never seen the castle shot from that perspective! Great that you provide the raw file so that we can follow along as seeing the image develop on our own screens is very informative. Thank-you
Thank you for your kind words Mike. I also love this part of the world very much. Corfe Castle has always eluded me for the perfect shot, to try and get the foreground, midground and backdrop of the Castle is a challenge, but hanging out the window of the train, I found it 😀

Thank you for the feed back. It is a very difficult balancing act to determine how much detail should be provided and how long it takes. I do try to keep the videos below one hour, perhaps I should break them down into shorter but multiple videos to cover the processing of a single image ?
TechSmith recommends under 20 minutes. My favorite graphic tutorials are tips that take 5 minutes or less.
I have to disagree with this. You are not going to gain any useful information from short duration clips. Here you have the complete workflow explained at a level which is easy to understand and gives you the knowledge to then use in your own edits.
@@jamiermathlinyou keep doing what you're doing. The more details, the better. I can always pause and return if I need to.
