    Great video! Very much enjoyed. Was very surprised that ground lamb was your big seller. I figured the loin chops would be number 1.

      Thank you! Yes, I think people are more comfortable cooking with ground lamb. The rib chops are also very popular.

    When you take your lamp to your local butcher or meat processor do you bring it to them alive?

    • @YouCanFarm
      @YouCanFarm  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, that is how we have to do it to comply with USDA regulations.

    Another great video, thanks. I so want to get sheep this spring. Do you think 1/3 acre for two feeders would be enough room? Its a good quality pasture.

    • @YouCanFarm
      @YouCanFarm  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I think you could do that, especially if you rotate the pasture some and can supplement with hay when needed. The best way to find out is to give it a try!

      @@YouCanFarm Also what do you think about sheep and IPP pigs in the same pasture?

    • @YouCanFarm
      @YouCanFarm  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I haven't personally raised IPPs, but I am very interested in trying them myself. I would imagine that the sheep would not want to eat where the pigs have trampled or pooped, but the pigs would help control sheep parasites by breaking their life cycle. You would also have to devise a way to feed the pigs that the sheep couldn't get into it. It would certainly be an interesting experiment.

      @@YouCanFarm Thanks for the quick response. IPP's are fantastic animals. We are getting 3 more this year. I don't have a lot of acreage to work with here, but I sure would like to get a couple Katahdin sheep too.

    The bones, offal, neck, and "stew" meat make GREAT food for dogs. Commercial dog food is poison, and your farm-buddies deserve the best.

    He compostes all the hides you would think folk who want to do stuff with leather would get to know that man real well

    Best to do it yourself
    Breaking down a lamb can be done several ways and you still can lose meat
    I break all my animals myself
    Now I don’t lose meat
    Trust no one even this video

    • @YouCanFarm
      @YouCanFarm  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree, for personal consumption it is best to do it yourself.
      I sell my meat to the public by the retail cut, so I am required by law to have it processed at a state or USDA inspected facility. I hate this law and have been screwed over by most of the processors I have used, but in order to keep my business running I have to abide.
      This video is intended to help those that are going to a processor for the first time to know what to expect, how the process works, and what sort of cuts you will get back.
