They should have let people make their own character. Ideally, male or female, or if the character must be female, at least let them tweak her appearance. I'm sure this decision alone has lost them a great many customers. A big part of the draw of fantasy role-playing games is the opportunity to be someone else, but it has to be someone they actually want to pretend to be for many hours.

Yeah, that is the commando droid head, a droid introduced in the Clone Wars TV series from 2008. It was introduced very early into that series and appears a lot. The weird thing is that some plot lines intersect and said plot lines are very out of order. If you pay attention it jumps around a lot.

As a Clone Wars Nerd. I feel obligated to point out. That is not a "Commander" droid. That is a BX series CommanDO droid. As in Special Ops. One of the most famous/infamous uses of those. Was when they killed Clones Troopers and Donned Their Armour (thats why these droids are shaped like that) and took over an important security outpost. The altrecation over which. Resulted in Kamino (tho home planet of the Clones) being Invaded.
Commander droids, or rather the Tactical Droids, are far less sexy or badass.

Game studios with enough funds can literally scan faces into games and it's extremely accurate. You have to go out of your way to make model-based characters drastically different from their IRL counterpart.

Its insane to me that these big AAA companies spend who-knows-how-much money to hire these super models to model their characters in games.
But then the companies go complete 180° and uglify those characters on purpose for their DEI agenda.
Why even hire these super models and spend money on expensive modeling, if you're not going to use that model in game. It's just waste of money, and maybe that's why the production costs of these big games are so abysmally high.
These companies just throw money away like this and blame it on gamers if their product isn't profitable. And the employees suffer the consequences, while the executives enjoy their bonuses for work well done. Western gaming industry really is corrupted to the core.

Bungie's situation is beyond ironic considering the reason they left their partnership with Microsoft being the Halo dedicated developers was because they wanted financial independence from a publisher since that meant they would own 100% of their projects revenue and gain full creative control since they didn't want to be a _Halo making machine_
Fast forward to today and they are not only owned by Sony but they are creatively bankrupt: all they have done since the Microsoft split is pumping Destiny expansions and that series itself is just a lamer version of Halo.
Also the high-profile devs that make that studio the heavy hitter it was back in the 00's (folk like Hardy LeBel or Martin O'Donnell) haven't been with them from a long time.
The fact is that Bungie died on Reach alongside Noble 6, nowadays they are your average _game as a service_ slop studio.
Why would they change? Currently about 50,000 players just on Steam. If it isn't broke, don't fix it... and despite your criticisms, many valid I'm guessing but Idon't play Destiny, they won't get off this hamster wheel until it stops bringing in billions of dollars.

Also 50k players is not that much for a live service games, specially considering it's a relatively recent one. PUBG for instance which released on the same year has four times the playerbase.
Also doesn't change the fact that they are no longer independent as a studio and are on Sony's leash.
@@Xfushion2 The canceled games & layoffs are happening even at the successful studios. And Bungie CEO just spent $2.3 million on cars. It's not poor sales that have lead to many layoffs across the industry. It's bloated studios, over paid top management, & boardrooms do anything and everything to ensure quarterly growth ever single quarter.
IDK live service games. Never played one, so I'll take your word on those numbers. Regardless, Destiny 2 has sold more on Steam than any other game. Despite that revenue is down 45% compared to last year. Just Witch Queen last year sold over $1 billion but less than 1/4 was profit. This is my point - inflated production costs & over paid management have lead to a very small profit margin. 20% is well below industry average which is typically 30% - 40% depending upon publisher & digital vs physical sales (and of course Gabe's cut).
I've studied this industry in preps for creating my own TH-cam channel & the issues are not low sales typically for layoffs & closures. Just look at Tango & so many other older cases like theirs. Release a couple truly great games, sells beyond expectations, won awards & highly rated by players, even gets ported to other platforms, studio gets closed down anyways. There's a rot & it is almost exclusively corporatism driving greed & ballooning budgets. Exacerbated by often buggy games being pushed out early, again due to corporate interference. Man there's so much more to it, but those massive studios are infected.

I'm aware that the reason most studios fail is due them being bloated with pointless overpaid roles, but you even said it yourself despite Destiny selling "well" their profits are down because in a live service model sold copies don't matter at all, what matters is player retention in order to squeeze whales out of their money with pointless MTXs.
That's why the most successful Live service games are Free to play, and yes. 50k is not that great of a number for that model, Elden Ring which is a premium game has double the concurrent players and they do not depend upon those to be successful in revenue terms.
And that does not change that Bungie didn't archive their goals after they left the Halo series, now they are an owned studio and all they are known for is pumping mindless expansion for a series that's just a bloated version of Halo with none of the appeal.

I dont think the main protagonist looks ugly, but she definetly doesnt look the best. But it is clear that there is a political agenda of the studios to make women more "normal", what they call "real beauty" as opposed to an idealized beauty. What intrigues me is that on the one hand they pursue a "real" beauty, and on the other we are playing a game of pure fiction about a galaxy far, far away. I don't quite understand why they seek realism in beauty but not in everything else... Progressivism really is fascinating.

Here's the thing, these companies can keep trying to shame people and say gamers are destroying the fabric of society. But, the numbers don't lie. People want what they want. And if the game played well and had an interesting story, we'd all be more forgiving. Elden ring is doing just fine without sexy characters.
