    Pulling out of Afghanistan wasn't a choice for politicians. Biden and Trump both recognized that the american people didn't want to be there for 20 years let alone another indefinite period. We couldn't set up a country that could stand on its own after 20 years, we weren't going to turn that around in another year or two with a small force.

      5000 troops is nothing.
      They are just acting as a figure head cause the Afghan army is doing all the dangerous stuff.
      That presence there just shows the Taliban don't mess with us cause we have USA support , and boosts the moral of the locals and the government.
      But you can't nation build only with military.
      You need a propaganda machine too , USA failed to do that, they needed to have boosted national identity of Afghan people and highlighted strong ties between Afghanistan and USA.
      It could have worked and made Afghan prosper thanks to USA in the long run.
      Pulling out was a big mistake.
      Giving up on that project showed weakness, because truly it was to early, you can't build a nation in 20 years only.

You do not waste resources in places where the local population does not have commitment and support for the conflict and objectives. If the Afghans had fought as hard in their war against the Taliban as the Ukrainians fought against the Russians, then maybe more countries would have supported a continued military presence in that country.

Indeed they both openly speak of helping Ukraine but in reality there is very little support from France and nothing from Germany - check these facts please.

    Sorry to break it to you, but Turkey is standing in the way. Also, Sweden uses 4% of its GDP on defense. They plainly save money by Joining NATO. Gates is telling you a selective truth. This woman, Margaret Brennan, is known for her very conservative, selective & at times propagandist views.
    In my mind, the U.S. wanted this war. In a crazy high risk geopolitical game, with underlying economic incentives, America has fueled this war.
    The reasons for wanting war is rooted in the coming world economic crash. The feds have kept the market artificially alive with its Quantitative Easing policy. The war in Ukraine was provoked, and had as its goal, to shut Russia out of the European energy market. Here are the 5 reasons for this crazy scheme;
    1. Keep oil supply low in the world, securing a high oil prize during coming crash.
    2. Secure a new Cold War in Europe, with massive profits for the weapons industry.
    3. Weaken Russia in Syria, creating elbowroom for Israel to finish off Assad & split Syria along ethnic lines.
    4. Seize 3rd world resources
    5. Secure Europe's vast wealth to pay for American energy.
    Easy to verify. Check min oil prize, U.S. & Russia need to be profitable. Check property market in China & in the U.S., verify the state those markets are in right now. Check the finance Repo market, check the U.S. ten year bond yield. Now that the war has happened, Russia is cut out of the market, FEDS will stop QE & raise the interest rate. A gargantuan crash can start.
    There is one thing the 'old' planners of this ploy have forgotten, & that is the free independent press & the internet. We are on to them. The people in Europe will never accept the enormous bill coming their way. Neither will the American people accept it. The only way the military/industrial complex will survive the political changes coming, is to control the information. Can they do that? NO!
    Countries already bankrupt is;
    1. Sri Lanka.
    2. Lebanon.
    3. Tunisia.
    4. Egypt.
    5. Peru.
    6. Turkey.
    7. South Africa.
    Within 6 month, America will have bankrupted the whole world. Then they can pick whatever resource they want. Starting with Venezuelan oil. Search for "U.S. ties easing of Venezuela sanctions to direct oil supply" and start to read. Don't believe a word of what you are told, especially NOT on this channel.

    Russia doesn't have the number of troops necessary to successfully occupy Ukraine or the economic base to support mobilization on a larger scale than what it's doing now. Russia is at the wrong end of a demographic collapse where if they don't move to reoccupy Eastern Europe right now they won't have the number of troops necessary to wage conventional war in the future.
    Nobody in Western Europe is willing to hand over 292 million people roughly two times the Russian population to Putin's domination without a fight. If the Russians couldn't subdue Afghanistan's 13.4 million they aren't going to subdue Ukraine's 42 million. This is why you are seeing the Russians turning to attacks on civilians. They are hoping to de-house and displace enough of the population to make an occupation work but the well-accepted force ratio for occupation is 1 soldier per 50 enemy population which Putin doesn't have.
    Putin knows that too many of his troops are surrendering so he's calculated that if he attacks civilians he will scare his troops into believing that the Ukrainians won't take prisoners. Russia is also sending mobile cremation units to Ukraine so they can hide their losses. Because sending home trainloads of caskets is bad PR for Putin. If Putin has the bodies cremated in the field he can skip registering the dead and list them as missing or captured instead. Since no family wants to believe their sons have been KIA Putin gets to conceal his losses and hold on to his justification for the war in the short term and potentially threaten the families of the dead with reprisal if he lists them as captured. This is why the State Department is warning about concentration camps, mobile cremation units, genocide, biological warfare, and chemical warfare.

    • @glynjones8187
      @glynjones8187 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well said, the Ukrainian army and air force made mobile crematorium unit's a prime target at the beginning of the war for those very reasons. Unfortunately the Ukrainians have train and truck loads of bodies of young men that Russia is refusing to take back and acknowledge. War is horrendous and in this day and age shouldn't be happening but Russia has definitely overstepped the mark in many ways.

    Gates is living in a fantasy world when it comes to Afghanistan. That country has been a collection of tribal states since the dawn of time. The only time it has been a true unified country is when Ghengis Khan conquered the area and his Mongols ruled with an iron fist. Even then there were tribes that lived in the mountains that never came down and were never pursued. The Afghan army was running away from fights even when the coalition had 30,000 troops in country so 5,000 would not change a thing except more American lives lost and more shattered troops returning home. Oh yes, and more billions of dollars thrown at a lost cause. Gates and Kissinger just need to shut up and go away.

      Europe also used to be an incoherent collection of multiple cultures constantly fighting against each other - yet today, Europe is one of the most peaceful places on earth. Yes, these things don't change overnight, but the average Afghani does not want to live in a tribe. Even the Taliban themselves are a lot more moderate than 20 years ago, so it is safe to say that Afghanistan is very slowly moving towards stability. Of course, whether the United States should pay money and blood to accelerate this change is a different question - perhaps not. But, permanently stationing 5k-8k soldiers in Afghanistan does not sound particularly expensive, so it might have been a decent, and overall preferable, compromise.

How many lives and how many billions are reasonable? What has happend in Europe happened over milenia. What timetable do you consider reasonable because the Taliban don't seem to have a schedule. Ten years? 100 years? At what cost? At what benefit to the people of the United States that are footing the bill ion money, blood, and shattered lives of tropps that return scarred for life? The Taliban haven't changed. They have gone back on just about every issue they agree to in the cease fire.

      @@mysticwanderer4787 Well, would you also say that Americas occupation of Germany after WW2 was a mistake? Because it clearly wasn't... that turned out really well, for everyone involved, even though, technically speaking, Germany is "occupied" even today. And, of course, "Afghanistan is different"... but how exactly, and does that mean that a permanent occupation should be completely off the table? Even your emotional appeal about "think of all the poor dead children" does not make that much sense, because the really costly part of that occupation was already over at that point, it's not like there were that many American casualties towards the end...
      Countries like the USA are so successful because of their strategic farsight. Staying in Germany absolutely paid off, and played a significant part in winning the cold war against Russia. Afghanistan 20 years or 50 years from now might have been considered a success as well - but now, it never will be. Meanwhile, China slowly expands its zone of influence, becoming more and more of a threat to the free world every day... and, sure, Afghanistan probably doesn't really make a difference either way, but it's not as simply as you pretend it is.

The US was pulling out abruptly, and the pro-US Afghan/Vietnamese soldiers were told by the Taliban/Vietcong that if they kept on fighting after that, they and their families would suffer needlessly. They would have no way to win, and in the end would lose everything. So they stopped fighting and walked away, some maybe even joining the other side. Most of americas problems are because Corporations (are not people) are absolutely not paying their taxes, The Robber Barron’s of the Industrial Revolution bragged about paying 90%, they built the country with those tax dollars and didn’t demand everything they built be held by them privately, they were proud to be able to do so! Flip side is they did most of it through eminent domain so they were the Villains. Sometimes people can’t see the bigger picture and only see their own suffering. Don’t we all use the roads that deliver goods and get us to grandmas house. The ports and rail roads that bring and take goods to where others need them. Our country has no national pride right now, because we’re to busy arguing over peanuts. I too wish we could take care of us at home, we should be proud and do what it takes to make things better for all of us!

      @@ZooDinghy It amazes me how some people deny a country with the biggest nuclear arsenal and centuries of being invaded from the west by the whole of Europe, a simple request to stop forming a giant hostile alliance on it's border and ignore all its attempts to find a mutually agreeable solution.

    It wasn’t Putin’s goal to absorb the Ukraine in toto--although he probably would’ve welcomed such a scenario if achieved on the cheap.
    Sovereignty for the Dunbass, keeping Crimea, holding the land bridge, & possibly Odessa would be a victory for Putin.

      That was his goal. At least that is what he said in the beginning. Do you have other information?

      Sorry his goal was to take over Ukraine that's why they invaded on so many fronts and shocker failed miserably. Think of the thousands of innocent people slaughtered for nothing. An idiot autocrat with delusions of a great Soviet empire. He has laid waste to cities and the people in them, disgusting.

      Nonsense!! He denies that Ukraine is a nation, just as Russia lied about Donbas "nothing to do with Russia it's Ukraine's problem", they lied about the invasion warnings were "hysterical".
      Russia has no credibility, it's shown itself to be a genocidal mafia fascist imperialist state which rewrites history and feeds its population delusions.
