That Beatles album cover was perfect for 1966! That art deco was everywhere in the mid to late 60’s. Now, ten worst covers: Black Sabbath - Paranoid Aerosmith-Get A Grip Led Zeppelin-CODA KISS-Hot In The Shade Elton John-Caribou Grand Funk Railroad-All The Girls….Beware! Pink Floyd-Atom Heart Mother Rolling Stones-Dirty Work Ted Nugent-Cat Scratch Fever Foghat-Girls To Chat And Boys To Bounce Rush-Hold Your Fire
Born Again is my favorite Sabbath lp full stop from cover, the lineup and the songs. Pure muddy cocaine addled evil. Gillan is unhinged ( well more unhinged ) as usual. Seemed to have thrown himself completely into the role like a method actor. Tony's tone is detached like a melancholy falling rain. Geezer's monster sound on full display and Bill throwing in all the kinds of fills and frills we love him for. The recording sounds as if it were made on a Fisher Price tape recorder on Certron cassettes lowered down a well in a swamp next to a magnet factory during the high tide season in Indonesia. I adore getting lost in its murky depths. Why any hate for the cover? To me it matches the vibe perfectly. 666 outta 10! Most excellent video gentlemen.
For the record... My brain was going to the fact that Louder than Love looks like a live album and was eventually made into a VHS live ep called Louder than Live...and then called Screaming Life a live ep. I dunno. I got twisted for a moment.
Nice show guys. Agree with Jamie that Headless Cross is the best Tony Martin album and according to the new Anno Domini box Headless Cross was huge in Europe and Japan, Black Sabbath was bigger there than any time with Ozzy after the Headless Cross tour and album.
Toto - Isolation Elton John - Leather Jackets (His worst album) Dream Theater - When Dream And Day Unite REO Speedwagon - There are several I could choose, but I'll go with the REO album from 1976. Chicago - Hot Streets Foreigner - 4 The Doobie Brothers - Taking It To The Streets Alan Parsons Project - Gaudi Heart - Brigade Billy Joel - River Of Dreams Honorable Mentions: Emerson Lake & Palmer - Love Beach (Their worst album) Pablo Cruise - Lifeline Pink Floyd - Meddle (An ear underwater)
I like the covers for Styx Brave New World, Warlock Burning the Witches, and the Darkness Hotcakes. And I LOVE the cover for Raise Your Fist and Yell! I just love that cover to pieces! I will admit Demolition is bad but it hit the right notes with a like 11 year old me. All these Maiden mentions and nobody mentions that Live at Donnington white envelope cover? Thing is the worse cover in my collection. I’ll offer up some terrible covers from some of my favorite bands, first is a twofer, Overkill Feel the Fire and Taking Over. When you have a cool Skull Bat logo nobody wants to see the band. W.A.S.P. Inside the Electric Circus. Beyond cringe. Best part of this show! Queensryche: Empire. It is lame and doesn’t make you think or question it. Pop Evil: Up. That arrow pointing Up just doesn’t do it for me. Within Temptation: the Silent Force. The black with the blue soundbite just doesn’t work for me.
Kansas, while usually having great album covers, had a few bad ones: Vinyl Confessions( bad because the great logo wasn't used) Drastic Measures( no logo, not much color) The Spirit Of Things (no logo, it looks like a folk rock or country album IMHO) Supertramp(also usually has great album covers): Debut(looks like a third grader's messed up art project) Indelibly Stamped(infamous for the nude woman with tattoos) Two great artists with great albums, but mediocre to terrible album covers: Dire Straits Steely Dan Genesis: self titled from 1983, sometimes called " Shapes " Pink Floyd: Meddle Insert here gratuitous citation of ELP's Love Beach
Not all of these are top ten bands, but they are all bands that I love, or they are albums that I love, and some I don't from bands I love. Metallica: Load and Reload. Gross and pretentious, even though I like most of the songs on these albums. Dishonorable mention for 72 Seasons because that yellow is absolutely retina frying. They could have adjusted that tint, and it would have been fine. Queensryche: Hear in the Now Frontier. A bunch of severed ears in jars in the desert. Huh? That cover looks so dated and 90's in the worst way. It's also the first of the band's string of middling albums that goes on until Todd joined. Iron Maiden: Dance of Death. The failure of that album cover has been well documented. It's basically unfinished. Dishonorable mention to the last two albums for the laziness. Eddie looks cool on both, but they couldn't give him any kind of background!? Nah, let's just do a shoulder-up portrait with an empty black background for two subsequent albums in a row. Lazy. Judas Priest: Demolition. I agree. Bland, lazy cover for a mostly forgettable album. I'm also not a huge fan of either version of the Point of Entry cover. Black Sabbath: Sabotage. Not a great cover, but the album is fantastic. Scorpions: Virgin Killer (both versions) the first version is wildly inappropriate. The second is just a bad band photo. The album is awesome. Rush: Clockwork Angels. The album cover is a hard to read mess. The album is excellent though. Megadeth: Risk: Not a fan of either the original cover or the remastered. Not a fan of the album either. Riot: Inishmore. It's a tragically overlooked album from a tragically underrated band that has put some pretty bad album covers out on a lot of good albums. The cover to Inishmore is really, really bad, which is even more confounding given that this was put out by Metal Blade. But do check this album out. Pantera: Reinventing the Steel. It's astounding that a major label would let a amateurish cover like that pass from a band that was still doing big business like Pantera was. With it being Pantera's final album, at least it was a banger.
Quote of the day. "that's a love it or hate it cover, I'm kind of in the middle"...😅😅😅
Missed the live show. Catching up on this now. This is awesome.
Metallica- St. Anger or Load.
Great Show gents.
I missed it , playing catchup watching now .... 🙂

Danielle Dax’s Pop Eyes is I pretty disturbing too
Great episode. I have to say that all of Jamie’s picks were spot on!!
Nice show guys. Agree with Jamie that Headless Cross is the best Tony Martin album and according to the new Anno Domini box Headless Cross was huge in Europe and Japan, Black Sabbath was bigger there than any time with Ozzy after the Headless Cross tour and album.
Martin: '(April Wine) they’d be 720th on my list' 😂
Show suggestion : Album covers you'd be embarrassed for your parents to see.
Toto - Isolation
Elton John - Leather Jackets (His worst album)
Dream Theater - When Dream And Day Unite
REO Speedwagon - There are several I could choose, but I'll go with the REO album from 1976.
Chicago - Hot Streets

The Doobie Brothers - Taking It To The Streets
Alan Parsons Project - Gaudi

Reo Speedwagon.................................................. Rules !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Self Portrait - Bob Dylan.
Although I love it, Stewie says Queen’s News of The World. Why does the robot look so sad? etc.
With the exception of UnMasked and Creatures, every 80's album cover from KISS
REO Speedwagon “Nine Lives” killer album!
Add Neil Young's Zuma to the list of bad album covers...

Two great artists with great albums, but mediocre to terrible album covers:

Steely Dan

Pink Floyd: Meddle

I agree on LZ II, great album / lame album cover !
Are these album covers shows still going? Lol
Until the end of time...lol
@ Seems that way Lol

I’ve never liked X’s Wild Gift.
Dokken - Long Way Home
The album itself isn’t very good either except for the first track, Sunless Days
Martin ! Tres Hombres ?!? Got to disagree !
Completely disagree on the Book of Souls cover.
Toto
Nothin worse tham Scorps VK
