Hi Rix, I knew you would review these pencils! Yes, these pencils are super expensive, but imho compared to the Staedtlers, Tombows and Mitsus, these are waaay superior. I feel that the other brands are smooth yet grippy but the CDAs are like writing on glass. That being said, for writing I prefer CDAs own "budget" pencil called Edelweiss in 3b which writes even smoother than the Grafwood 3b! No "grippiness" at all. it almost flows like ink.
+Gil Oro Hi Gil, I will check out the Edelweiss. As for the Grafwood's, I cannot feel or see the difference between these and the Mitsu Hi-Uni. They both draw smooth to me. So due to that, I will go with the one that costs less. Thanks!
Worst pencils I ever had were called Cretacolor Studio Line. Just awful, the wood was low quality and they put a bunch of scratches on the paper. About the same price as a Lumograph, which is ridiculous.
The grafwoods seem to have a slightly larger barrel diameter then regular pencils. When I sharpen them its a tight fit and scares up the barrel just above the fresh cut wood. Is there a particular sharpener that works best for these? I have the following sharpeners: staedtler round cased double barrel, m+r round double barrel, prismacolor cased double barrel.
Thanks a bunch. Looks like I will be getting a new one. I have a single hole, cheap xacto crank sharpener which they don't fit but the sharpener makes such a great point. A little concaved though.
The darker the graphite- the wider the diameter, because the darker- the-softer- the more easily breakable the 'lead' is - thus, Caran d'Ache intentionally varies the lead-diameter accordingly -
Some day someone will do a piece on the same pencils being stored in a dry container and another in a humidor that uses a stabilizer (Propylene Glycol) along with distilled water in a sponge cartridge to maintain humidity.
Have you used the Blick Studio pencils? They are a loss leader and several of us did some tests and these are comparable to Grafwood. Hard to believe but true. Mitsubishi are hard to find.

Cretacolor is a shitty brand. And an expensive one as well. I work in an art supply shop and I hate everything Cretacolor makes.
the pronounce is Karan dash.
by the way karandash is pencil in Rússia.

Julian Cruz Gusmao....Good to know, thanks for that. I hate it when I pronounce things wrong......😂😂❤️
Yep... I feel the same. Mitsubishi just feels better.

The hand crank style sharpeners work well.

When you run out of things to do you never know.
where do you buy mitsubishi pencils. Jerry's doesn't carry them.
I just do a search online.

Blick has them, Search Uni Hi-Uni Graphite Pencils
Amazon.
You can order them online (I’m 5 years aren’t I?)
3 dollars a pencil!? what the hell are the Swiss doing to justify that price? Nah man, I'll buy their cheese but not their pencils.
Price inspired by the swiss watches I guess.
