@@itsjonathangray It’s extremely rare these days that an album is just loaded with the singles . Then the rest is filler but this album is definitely not that!

One of the greatest albums ever made. I was 8 when it came out. Scritti Politti was a major part of the soundtrack of my youth. Bless you, Mr. Gartside!
I love this song. Love Green and Scritti Politti. Love Arif Mardin. Some how I am just seeing this version of the video. For a US audience music video in 1985... its a missed opportunity 😞 It's even more abstract than the UK version and you can barely tell that Supermodel Veronica Webb is featured here. Wah!
...Jean Baptiste DID the damn thing on this Video! ...this re-release came out early spring, 1986, around the same time Grace Jones "Love Is The Drug (1986 remix)" & Culture Club's "Move Away" came out, and I was OBSESSED! ...Fashion, style, lighting, ART...I'll always treasure those times, 'cause it gave me an early sense of FASHION....Veronica Webb would AGREE!! ...ha-HAAA!!

I remember the day I heard this song for the very first time. It was three years ago during a night when I was studying the Valence Shell Electron Pair Repulsion theory and some calculus for two tests. I was exhausted, so I took to TH-cam and suddenly this song was recommended to me. I played it... and the rest is history. My favorite album from the 80s. This song is another reason why. 💞
Similar story: I first heard this in college two years ago. My poor roommate was so sick (not covid) that he couldn't even stand to have the lights on, so while passing time in the dark, I checked out Scritti Politti due to comments on a Prefab Sprout video, and that's when I ended up listening to Wood Beez for two hours straight (and Absolute for another hour).
@@dateddelvings1695 Wow! And what a night that must've been for you to discover the brilliance of Scritti Politti. I hope your roommate enjoyed it too and recovered afterwards. Wood Beez and Absolute are two songs that define just how good 80s music can get. ✊✊✊

I don't get it. There was no sexual content, just a band playing instruments in their pajamas. A dude grabbing some grease, a man dancing, two people fencing, and a reenacting of the black power salute at Olympic games.

How is this different to the European version? Maybe I detected a tiny bit less synth work in the chorus but really - seems identical to me.

I like the way the US version had to be less "sexual" than the British/European version in order to get played on MTV.
The U.K version didn't seem that sexual. Maybe sitting on the bed was too sexy?? Go figure 🤔🤣
