Thank God you and this video! This happened to me today (VSS mode w/blinking Engine light along with zz wheels thingy) very first time since I've had it. Bike is 18mos old bought it new 22 Ryker Sport. I was far away from home and panicked!!!! After watching this I did just that! Rode it for like 15 Miles and it cleared. Whew!!!! Made it home no problems. I figured out why it happened.... I had my cell phone holder too far on the left side and it was hitting my cruise control button every time I tap on the volume. Lesson learned. 14:42

Thanks so much C8 Pate! I figured I give this a go on my 2022 Sport. Code C0063 and C006C and the dreaded limp mode during the last 10 miles of a 100 mile round trip on a gradual left turn. It's 50 miles roundtrip to the stealership so I am waiting until the weather turns bad. I also have a starter code P0512 and bypassed the start switch with my own handlebar mounted starter switch. Sad. I always held Can Am in high regard. I'm on the fence about selling the Ryker now and can no longer recommend them to anyone. Too bad because it is a blast to ride solo and for two-up winery runs in the Texas Hill Country. After some research, looks like I got unlucky with a defective yaw and or steering sensor. The back end gets squirrely and bouncy on corners. Hope this helps someone. It took me 20 minutes to clear the VSS, I almost gave up when I closed in on a truck. Took the turn around, got up to 58mph again and about 2 minutes the Ryker cleared the VSS and took off. Stress relieved!! Thanks again!

@@c8pate744 I found another video on this very issue. Seems like there is no resolution from the comments there, but I decided I'm heading to the dealership tomorrow to get this issue documented and started. The other u-tube video can be found by searching "Recall Dangerous Can Am Ryker Wobbly Front and Back Tire/VSS Fault and What to do?" Not sure if linking to it in the comments is permissible. My bike was giving all these codes after being idle over the winter. My partner, a heavy equipment mechanic checked out everything and said the battery could be causing it. I bought a new motorcycle battery at Canadian Tire, rather than the dealer, and the codes all cleared. My partner cleaned all the battery contacts too, he said corrosion on the contacts can be a problem too. The battery I bought is compatible for my 2019 Ryker Rally 900. It’s a Motormaster Eliminator AGM UltraXD Powersports battery ETX14L On the brake/throttle issue, I’ve had to make sure my boot toe isn’t touching the brake when I’m using the throttle because that causes limp mode. When I started riding, that happened a lot. Some riders have installed a foot board to prevent this problem. Just thought this might help. I’d switch the battery or clean the contacts and check all wiring to see it that eliminates those codes.

Most bike don’t charge the battery at low speeds specially when iddleling, you’re draining the battery and the system won’t work properly. You’re code disappears because you’re battery got the charge it need it when you rode it at faster speed.

Hey C8 Pate. I just subbed, but I just want to say that this issue is really unnecessary with having any type of sensor regulating brake control to the point where if you press the brake too much, it goes it into some type of fault, because if you think about it, you have to break often and sometimes you do have to ride the brake because traffic is moving slowly and you need to move slowly with it. That's just my two cents. I think that Can-Am needs to desensitize this sensor a little bit. My Ryker is in the shop right now for a third VSS light in 3 years. it is a 2019 model. I am very uneasy about taking it anywhere far because I'm unsure of when it's going to throw me into limp mode again. Can-am needs to recall these things at least the 2019 models.

One of the reasons I learned from the very beginning you can not be on the throttle and the brakes at the same time, it's either one or the other but not both at the same time. I know that it can be a hard concept to adjust riding to operate a canam ryker if you used to operate your own vehicle and riding your brakes, but you absolutely cannot ride the canam rykers and operate the hand throttle and operate the brakes at the same time. It takes about 20? to 50? miles at 20 to 45 miles an hour and should you end up doing this a couple of times you'll want to change your riding-operating habits. Too explain the computer in the canam ryker is saying when you ride the brake & throttle together, "What Does This Fool Want To Do, Go Forward Or Stop, I'll Just Wake Him Up & Go Into VSS Mode This'll Get His Attention".

That happened to me on the highway doing 65, 70mph. I just pulled over for about 5 minutes and the code went away. I might have had my foot on the throttle. I just changed my foot position and it was fine after that. I hadn't ridden on the highway in a while so when I was going to the dealership for a recall repair I was kinda nervous so I took the back road until i got on the exit for the toll which I was trying to avoid. At least when it happened I only had 7 miles to go before I got home. Limp mode cleared up and didn't come back on. I might have to take the extended brake pedal off and go back to the original one.

I contacted 4 or 5 different dealers for all of them to tell me to drop my bike off, they are 2 weeks out and one even said they are too busy, so they can’t take it…. I feel like these bikes are too new and should not be doing this. Is there a Lemon Law on these bikes? Can we *(Ryker owners having issues) do something as a group to get BRP on top of these issues ASAP? *(Is there already something being done that I’m unaware of?) They continue selling them knowing about these issues and pushing a practically bogus warranty on customers. *(bait and switch)

The problem is your brake light sensor. It gets stuck, the Ryker detects that the brake lights are on but the brake isn't being pressed, and throws a VSS fault.
The Fix: Look where your brake pedal is. See those wires inside the fairing? That's your BLS, and it's the issue. Grab some silicon spray, press the brake hard with your hand, and lube that lil' bastard up. Actuate the brake a few times, and you should be good to go. If not, you'll need to adjust the position of the BLS. To do so, there are two nuts on the sensor. Moving the sensor up will increase tension on the BLS's spring (the BLS is a load sensor), moving it down will lower tension. Adjust as needed so that your brake lights come on when the pedal is pressed, and go off when released. Note that if the pedal is pressed for longer than two-three seconds, the brake lights will stay on about half a second longer.
How do I know this? I'm a BRP certified Technician.
