I also find it cool how Falcone essentially kick starts Bruce's journey to become Batman. He tells him that he'll never understand the dirt and grime lower class people have to trudge through, so (as you said) Bruce gives up his millionaire lifestyle, moves 1000 miles away, and takes on the "lifestyle" of the man who killed his parents. That lifestyle leads him to Ra's Al Ghul, where he trains to become the _thing_ Falcone can fear. And the first thing he does in the cape and cowl is show Falcone, with all his confidence and power, that there is something to fear.
I love in Batman Begins when a cop tells Bruce he's a criminal and Bruce says I'm not a criminal and the cop replies with tell that to the guy who owns these and it shows Wayne Enterprise boxes.
Always saw parallels between the Nolan trilogy and the Raimi trilogy: Both trilogies are marked with their director's style, no studio interference (for the most part) Both trilogies told the ultimate origin story of the character Both trilogies had a second part that suprised everyone by even surpassing the first movie Both trilogies have a second part that revolves around one of the best villains ever put to film Both trilogies had a third part that, while very good, couldnt meet the insane expectations audiences had, in part because the studio kept interfering and demanding changes after the ultra success of the previous movie

But i said, hey you should know who batman is before you watch robin's story. She was like, fine, i guess. We watched this movie, and i could tell the moment ra's al ghul said "no the vigilante is just a man lost, scrambling for his own identification. He can be destroyed, or locked up. But if you make yourself more than just a man, if you devote yourself to an ideal, and if they cant stop you, then you become something else entirely" i knew she was hooked. I love how when you finish watching Batman Begins (for the eight millionth time) you feel like Bruce Wayne. You feel the weight taken off of his shoulders when he overcomes his fear. You feel the weight set on his shoulders at the end when his parents mansion is destroyed.
Yeah, it’s that strong empathy with Bruce Wayne that has genuinely influenced how I live my life, I feel ya there...cheers to an amazing movie and symbol of hope
Yep. This is pretty much exactly why Batman Begins is my favourite Batman movie. Most people I know say the Dark Knight or Batman 89 is the best but for me, it was always Batman Begins because I felt that it actually focused on Batman the most.
What Mr. Nolan achieved through his Batman trilogy films is something monumental and legendary indeed!! Not only is it a super entertaining 'Batman movie', it is a great movie in itself! It does not only rely on the Batman hype to sell itself, it tells a deep social commentary based on all our shared traumas and hopes in life! And man! That Tumbler military vehicle turned Batmobile is, IMHO, the most awesomest awesome piece of automobile design ever!! What an original artist!!! And what a superbly talented and dedicated team!!!
I believe we can all agree that this was THE MOST anticipated video, you've ever made. Thank you for honoring nolan's batman in this amazing way. This is the video he deserves and needs
I love how this film shows that fear is something that needs to be controlled and repressed and it comes full circle in Rises when he realizes that having some fear actually makes his stronger because it gives him something to lose. These films are so amazing
Christopher Nolan really gave us something special with The Dark Knight Trilogy and Batman Begins has to be the best superhero origin story for ages to come
I love the Nolan trilogy so much. Each movie is fantastically crafted with such a clear and cohesive goal. Yeah it bends the rules of realism while boasting realism, but it gets so much more out those moments where the almost unbelievable happens. The whole thing is just dripping with tension, drama, and catharsis while still feeling so tangible.
I’m so happy Warner Brothers had seen Christopher’s passion and past record in filmmaking and storytelling. They had seen that he had a rising fire in him, each film he made when he started to produce doing better than the previous
The scene where Bale chucks the gun in the river always reminds me of the TDKR. "A gun is a liar's weapon! A coward's weapon! These are the weapons of the enemy! We do not need them! We will not use them!" You can see it in Bale. The shame he feels. The fact that his father would be ashamed of his son if he killed-if he became the same kind of monster that took him and his wife away from his son. Bale gives incredible screen presence to Bruce and matches Michael Caine in the most spectacular way. Caine's cutting, humor and disapproval is matched perfectly by Bale's levity and dry, sardonic reply to this man who, for all intents and purposes, was the only family he had after his parents died. This movie isn't perfect, but the vision behind it is. And we see that vision further refined in The Dark Knight which is why Dark Knight is one of only a handful (less than five) of movies where the sequel drastically outperforms and outdoes the original.
Batman Begins is just...just wow. Like, even all these years later it still impresses me from a writerly standpoint. The characters, (Batman actually has an arc), the emotions, the quietly thoughtful nature of the film. It all just came together so well. Nolan's grounded and more realistic approach to the mythos helped make the humanity in the characters shine through more. While the editing in the fight scenes is...questionable, the Tumbler chase scene is still one of the coolest car chase scenes in film history. And the scene near the end where Batman turns and says, "It's not who I am underneath, but what I do that defines me." That still makes my 'nads tingle every time!
Not only my favourite Batman movie nor my favourite comic book movie but my favourite movie of all time! The movie that got me to love the art of movie making. This movie really changed the way I watched movies moving forward to this day.
Just something that makes me love Batman Begins even more is I think that Batman/Bruce Wayne is such a tragic character, we get in the later movies that can never live a normal life and he's only supposed to endure what he has. A standout scene for me is near the end of the movie where Rachel talks to Bruce at Wayne Manor only to reveal to us the audience that Bruce Wayne never really came back but that Batman is now the real mask and persona of what was Bruce Wayne. I think it's such a tragic moment that Rachel and Bruce know that they can never be together unless Batman is no longer needed by Bruce and only gets more sad when you look at the next two films and how it affects on him.
You really make me re-evaluate movies I never really thought to much about. Whenever I think of Nolan's batman I always think straight to "the Dark Night" but watching this makes me think of Batman Begins a lot more. Thank you for this HiTop!
I've gotta say, I love your videos. 5 minutes, 10, 20, 40, an hour, and 1/2, it doesn't matter. Every time I click on one of your videos I know your passion and energy will shine through any topic you're covering. Whether you're talking about how Raimi turned comic book movies into the cinema genre of our genre or how Mark Webb was crushed by studio interference. @@omarelhamamy4516 That's true. I mean I personally like Dark Knight better, but I don't appreciate Rises less, because of that. I think it stands as a wonderful conclusion, and a great Batman movie even separated from the rest.
Batman Begins was indeed my favorite of the trilogy and hands down my favorite Batman film (including the DCAU films). Liam Neeson was so very subtle bad ass as Ras Al Ghul and I loved this real life version of Scarecrow.
1:26 This guy is an absolute legend. Creator of original Harley Quinn character, Producer and Screenwriter of our heartfelt Batman: The Animated series and a tons of Comics, Batman Arkham Video games and a lot of other animated movies and shows.
Nolan succeeded in a delivering a different and grounded take on Batman while remaning faithful to the noirish elements of the character and the mythos in general.
"The whole idea of rebooting a franchise with a new director, new actors and new creative approach was kind of unheard of" That's literally what batman forever is
This trilogy is as iconic and comparable to the Spider-Man Raimi trilogy. When great directors are let loose, you know something great will be formed. I say this because the action in both could be improved... But that's probably the only main flaw,if you can call it a flaw.
@@nathanbent7307 yep I think it was the best fight of the trilogy. 2 guys just brawling brutally, with Peter getting outclassed till he used his emotions and grit to win.
Not very comparable. Batman Begins isn't the one that's blinded by nostalgia, it's those three movies. And they largely vary in quality, while Nolan's trilogy stays consistent.
@@bloocheeseformaboi881 Either you like a movie or you don't. "Blinded by nostalgia" is a childish insult that morons (MCU Spider-Man fans for example) throw around because they're butthurt over how much people like a movie over a movie they prefer. Let me guess, you're one of those assholes?
How to have 3 villians: Falcone: fear on people for money. Scarecrow: fear on criminals for money. Rashe Al Ghoul: fear on people for justice. & Batman: fear on criminals for justice. i watched this movie last night, still a fkn masterpiece, my personal favorite live-action batman film. thank you for making this video, can't wait for part 2!
The movie transitions from Bruce turning into Batman, and that aspect of it is near flawless. When I first saw the movie at its midnight opening I was so submersed in Bruce’s narrative that when he got to the cave after his 7 year absence and the bats started to swarm around him, I proclaimed “that’s the batcave!” I had forgotten I was watching a Batman movie. And that moment brought me back to the fact I was watching a Batman movie. It was such an amazing magic trick by Nolan, to bring Bruce Wayne/Batman into a world that could be in a Scorsese or Coppola film, I’ve never experienced anything like it. What a wonderful gift Nolan delivers to his audience! Truly remarkable filmmaking.
In the (crowded) world of film critique, I have found myself missing your voice most acutely. Thanks for putting one of my favorite films under the magnifying glass.
Imagine if this was the beginning of the DCEU (I know it's supposed to be completely realistic, I'm just saying imagine if the universe began with a film of this quality.)
You're not thinking about it right, this movie was so good because of how well tailored it was to the character. The formula doesn't just 1:1 translate, as seen by HiTops mention of Man of Steel.
@@CarterDarter i agree, but i still think it'd be interesting if a film similar to this was the start of DCEU. This film may not translate well in particular but if a film of similar quality were the begin something like an extended universe, I'd be curious to see where it goes. That's just me though
" Whaaaa! What was that? People can like different versions of batman and find it unreasonable to compare two entirely different takes on batman? Unacceptable! Mask of the phantasm is the best batman movie ever, and anyone who dares say otherwise is wrong! "
I was on set for the filming of Dark Knight, and Rises. I got to see alot of Nolan's Magic, my mums ex worked with CN, and it was a magical time... although I was 9, so I kinda just wanted to go home lmaoo
So no one is gonna point out that "Batman Begins" is a "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves" shot-for-shot remake? I mean for crying out loud: Morgan Freeman plays the same character in BOTH MOVIES xD
@@DTejeiro1 that's just like "Joker" having Robert De Niro because it ripped off "The King of Comedy". The film might be aware of ripping-off, but that doesn't make it less of a rip-off
when I was about 3 my dad got me into Batman from Batman 66, and for the next 8 years he showed me other batman films and hyped me up for Batman Begins and the dark knight trilogy and when I saw Batman Begins it came to me (well came to me more) that action isn’t the only thing that makes a superhero film great.
Batman Begins is my favorite Batman movie. Of all the Batman movies, it represents the truest representation of the character. His drive, ethos, and theatrics. Ask this seemed to disappear throughout the Nolan trilogy. In the TDKR, he just appears. But in this movie, he stalks and plays with the villains and henchmen. The dock fight scene was the most Batman thing I'd ever seen in my life.
I like how he still learns new things in every movie. His character evolves and develops to become what we know as Batman. He’s not just “Batman” like in the Burton films. That’s one of the reasons people call it inaccurate to the comics, they don’t realize he’s a flawed human who has to learn with time.
I describe the Nolan Trilogy as "what if you took Batman and turned up the realism by 20-30%". A very unique alternative take. It will never top the perfect balance of _Batman: TAS_ or the _Arkham_ series, but it's definitely the best live-action theatrical chain of films we've gotten for the character thus far.
I agree with the Arkham games, but the Animated Series is just too damn long for me to give a proper analysis on it. And the fact that's its still technically for kids holds it back even if they can show a little blood.
I've always loved this movie and already knew everything you said, but hearing it spelled out in the way you structured it reminded me why I find Nolan's Batman so inspiring. Thank you.
I completely agree that Batman Begins is the most "batman" in the trilogy. Perfect analysis, it's sad when people don't read between the lines of the movie and just watch it for the fight scenes.
Dude, you are amazing...literally the only person who can see the hero's for who they are like me and your proof that people who actually care abt who the hero's are and what they believe in exist!!!
This is why Begins is my favourite Batman movie in the trilogy all time. Thank YOU for making the video. I cared so much about Bruce Wayne. Thanks CHRISTOPHER NOLAN
Bruh why doesn't this man have 1,000,000 followers yet, he puts so much effort and time into all of his videos. He really shows his passion for film-making and seems to put his whole heart into these videos.
I’ve been waiting for you to do a video on this masterpiece of a film... I’ve always said that this was my favorite Batman movie of the trilogy because it was so focused on Bruce Wayne/Batman instead of the villains (The Joker, the mob, Two Face)
I dunno cause they are all Batman films. I can see that Begins has most in common with the comics than the other 2, but I place the other 2 higher as I thought they were complete reinventions of the character.
Batman begins is awesome The dark knight is imo one of best superhero movie is really a masterpiece The dark knight rises is good but not as good as Batman begins and dark knight
16:39 I don’t know why but ever since you uploaded this video, I keep watching this part a lot because I feel like I’ve grown like Bruce did.
Yeah, I agree
Yep. This is pretty much exactly why Batman Begins is my favourite Batman movie. Most people I know say the Dark Knight or Batman 89 is the best but for me, it was always Batman Begins because I felt that it actually focused on Batman the most.
Had to be the best!
“I won’t kill you, but I don’t have to save you” best line in a batman movie
This video actually brought teers to my eyes. Amazing video as per usual, can't wait for part 2!
The batman trailer was absolutely fantastic I'm hyped for thr movie
LETS DOOOOO THIS
Also your editing is great

Nolan's Batman trilogy would always be the bar of great comic book cinema
I’m so happy Warner Brothers had seen Christopher’s passion and past record in filmmaking and storytelling. They had seen that he had a rising fire in him, each film he made when he started to produce doing better than the previous
What the Spider-Man Raimi Trilogy is for you, is basically what the Dark Knight Trilogy is for me. So thanks for doing these.
And we see that vision further refined in The Dark Knight which is why Dark Knight is one of only a handful (less than five) of movies where the sequel drastically outperforms and outdoes the original.
i pissed my pants when i saw you started a series on this trilogy,
The Dark Knight Trilogy will forever be one of my favorites.
Was this your first introduction to batman in 2005?
It's clear to me that it honestly doesn't matter if your opinions match mine all the time as the simple truth is: You love movies. You love movies with a passion, dedication, and heart that I want to see more of. Love your videos dude.

Swear down the dark knight rises is really underrated
It gets way too much hate, it's so damn good.
Fable Joey yh but if you think about it the only reason it’s so underrated is because the dark knight was really good
It has some glaring issues but overall its UNDERappreciated not rated. It still was banger in the box office.
@@omarelhamamy4516 That's true. I mean I personally like Dark Knight better, but I don't appreciate Rises less, because of that. I think it stands as a wonderful conclusion, and a great Batman movie even separated from the rest.
Not underrated i would say but actually OVERhated
“Bats frighten me. It’s time my enemies share my dread.”
Batman Begins was indeed my favorite of the trilogy and hands down my favorite Batman film (including the DCAU films). Liam Neeson was so very subtle bad ass as Ras Al Ghul and I loved this real life version of Scarecrow.
I HAVE WAITED SO LONG FOR THIS VID ESPECIALLY AFTER RAIMI’S TRILOGY
Man I bet you your english teachers couldn't wait to give you essays you are so amazing at explaining everything
"The whole idea of rebooting a franchise with a new director, new actors and new creative approach was kind of unheard of"
That's literally what batman forever is
Batman begins is about Bruce and his trauma
The dark knight is about criminals
Dark Knight rises is about gotham itself
This trilogy is as iconic and comparable to the Spider-Man Raimi trilogy. When great directors are let loose, you know something great will be formed.
I say this because the action in both could be improved... But that's probably the only main flaw,if you can call it a flaw.
I like the action in spider man especially the end fight with green goblin
@@nathanbent7307 that fight was brutal, i like it🔥🔥
@@nathanbent7307 yep I think it was the best fight of the trilogy.

How to have 3 villians:
Falcone: fear on people for money.
Scarecrow: fear on criminals for money.
Rashe Al Ghoul: fear on people for justice.
&
Batman: fear on criminals for justice.
Bruce becomes bat to take falcone, overcomes fear toxin to take on scarecrow, and masters to beat Rashe.

i watched this movie last night, still a fkn masterpiece, my personal favorite live-action batman film. thank you for making this video, can't wait for part 2!
I love that they brought scarecrow back for the next two films
Imagine if this was the beginning of the DCEU
(I know it's supposed to be completely realistic, I'm just saying imagine if the universe began with a film of this quality.)
@@CarterDarter The again it's probably just a dumb idea so whatever
@@CarterDarter the formula doesn't have to be replicated for a movie in this same universe.
I remember there was speculation of a crossover with Superman Returns.

100% agree. It still hasn't been topped

I love scarecrow in this movie, summed up the character well, especially for just a side villain. Cillian Murphy was a great Crane.
Yes this is the vid series we deserved
when I was about 3 my dad got me into Batman from Batman 66, and for the next 8 years he showed me other batman films and hyped me up for Batman Begins and the dark knight trilogy and when I saw Batman Begins it came to me (well came to me more) that action isn’t the only thing that makes a superhero film great.
The dock fight scene was the most Batman thing I'd ever seen in my life.
imo
Begins - Batman the Vigilante
TDKR - Batman the Superhero
Dark Knight - Nolan's version of Batman in it's purest form
I like how he still learns new things in every movie. His character evolves and develops to become what we know as Batman. He’s not just “Batman” like in the Burton films. That’s one of the reasons people call it inaccurate to the comics, they don’t realize he’s a flawed human who has to learn with time.
7:47 Aye I know what this is from!!!

Mrimchaelson Did you even watch this video? I think you just described Burton’s Batman.
I agree with the Arkham games, but the Animated Series is just too damn long for me to give a proper analysis on it. And the fact that's its still technically for kids holds it back even if they can show a little blood.
I got the chills when pointed out the symbolic meaning behind that scene where Gordo drapes the jacket over his shoulders, like a cape.

Hidden Eagle1 Oh, okay. My bad.
u must say the whole series....BB , TDK and TDKR...okay nevermind....its ur choice
I dunno cause they are all Batman films. I can see that Begins has most in common with the comics than the other 2, but I place the other 2 higher as I thought they were complete reinventions of the character.
Batman begins is awesome
The dark knight is imo one of best superhero movie is really a masterpiece
The dark knight rises is good but not as good as Batman begins and dark knight
16:39 I don’t know why but ever since you uploaded this video, I keep watching this part a lot because I feel like I’ve grown like Bruce did. That part where you talk about fear and how we use it just made me think how I’ve grown.
