A branch of the Gulf Stream could have entered the Baltic Sea and exited at the White Sea, and kept the whole region warm. Southwest Finland had a major population until the catastrophe of Noah's Flood in 3161 BC. This population and its many cities are described in the oldest Greek mythology, before Ouranos - Gaia arrived. They were preceded by Norse mythology, which locates the north pole at Hudson Bay, 45 degrees west of the current North Pole when measured at SW Finland. Swiveling the map around, the North Sea would now trend east-west on the north side of Norway.
