Dirty Den IS Eastenders and nobody will ever be able to captivate an audience the way the Late Leslie Grantham did! Leslie played Den is such a laid back,crafty and calculating manner, he was always one step ahead. Shame he didn’t get more time to inherit the square back. Many have tried to imitate, Den Watts was the real deal. Rest In Peace Leslie 👍👏😉
Grantham’s acting here is perfect, the looks, the mannerisms, the way he goes from sitting and Phil looking down on him, to standing so Phil has to look up at him, masterful stuff.
Problem was that when Den was killed off and Vicki and Sharon left, there was no longer a place on the show for Dennis. Hence why they killed him off. They wanted all traces of Den gone for good. They only brought back Sharon six or seven years later to reunite her with Phil.
"I'm not deaf I heard ya." & "you're in my way." Love these two lines as I love this whole storyline of Dens return to the square, what ever happened to this kind of eastenders?
I think the only clash we really wanted to see was Dirty Den v Grant Mitchell. Shame we will never see that happened. It would’ve been one of greatest rivalry ever.

Him & Harman were amazing chemistry together. Also, only Steve McFadden could outdo Dirty Den. Brilliant stuff!!!!👍

If i was Producer, i would of only bought den back for a 'special week of episodes' when he returned in 2003 just to put closure on the relationship between him and Sharon then have him go back to Spain for good, his reason would be "This place (Albert Square) is beyond me now, times have changed" etc with his son Dennis picking up the 'hardman' mantle, Den just wasn't needed to stay in the show. They really destroyed one of the most iconic characters ever by keeping him around.

I'm really annoyed that the writers killed Den off completely after bringing him back from the "dead", he was such a legendary character and I wanted him to live on to even encounter Grant Mitchell and have a fued with him as well as Phil.
