Acclaimed director Milos Forman talks about his first experiences with Kirk and Michael Douglas after a screening of his award-winning film ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST at the AFI Silver Theatre and Cultural Center on August 18, 2008. Directed by Forman, ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST was the second film in history to claim the coveted "Big 5" Academy Awards categories and stars Jack Nicholson, Louise Fletcher and Brad Dourif.

I saw the play in 1962. I was stationed on the Navy ship uss suribachi ae21. We pulled into brooklyn for a few days. The USO brought tickets to the ship and I took one. Wow that was 57 years ago.

Milos Forman was a great director. He always gave and never took from the actors he worked with.

More than that, he would often take beginner out B-league actors, or complete amateurs he met on a tram, and forged them into literally Oscar-level performances with such wholesome ease...
