I built myself a similar setup about 18 months ago, but with a IKEA desk and the Gator frameworks side car. It's been fantastic, and the total price was under $400. I did a video on the desk build and side car build on my channel.
I'm the same way. My original "desk" was a square table that I got second hand for $15. Worked just fine for years, but I eventually grew out of it and wanted more desk space. Got a manual crank standing desk with a 43x24 tabletop, and slid a short rolling keyboard stand underneath. The standing desk part was ideal because I could set it to whatever height I needed to get the midi keyboard underneath. Monitoring speakers on stands, 27" monitor on an arm above my laptop, it's clean. Big tables are just the way to go cuz you can make whatever you want out of them.
Ayyyyy the Gator Elite desk! I have the same one and it's awesome. Shoutout also to Rhett Shull for inspiring me to really look at studio desks during the pandemic.
This hit home quite a bit Fluff. As a designer and software engineer, I took a similar route - but instead I did a custom build that I'm pretty stoked for. Basically a solid tube steel frame I got from a local fab shop, and a custom butcher -block-style wood top. Obviously a bit more pricey, but it's something that will last indefinitely. Cheers.
I've been using a Studio RTA producer desk without the top piece and have been eyeing this desk as a possible replacement. Even more tempted now. Thanks for the video.
honestly i feel this. I understand that the traditional "mastering style" desk might be ideal for audio, but for songwriting or content creation the $200 amazon standing desk works 1000% better
Oh man, I feel this deeply, Lol. I switched desks this past December, and at first, I really wanted something "pro" like a DangerFox or an Argosy but ultimately ended up going with an Uplift sit-stand desk with that Gator Frameworks sidecar for these exact same reasons. Great setup!
I went gator frameworks too but I got the content creator kit. I like how not installing the top piece gives you more surface area on the main desk, but I also like where having thr top pice on puts my monitors right where I want them without needing stands.
About 4 years ago I picked up an almost new studio rta desk for $50. At the time musicians friend sold it for $400. It is now $730. Inflation sucks but that deal just keeps getting better lol
Nice but my Ikea legs then choose you table tops are incredibly cheaper and do the job. Alternatively for the tops get the lumber store to cut custom sizes for your space, a quick coat of black stain that dries in minutes and the set up is fast.😇
If only they had this for 88 key keyboard. ive been looking for a setup like this with the 2 rack units for rack gear and then possible have it wrap around with a side car making it seem like one piece. i also would use the tray on the side car for guitar pedals and such.
I think at this point, we’ve just got to accept that fluff likes to change things out constantly 😂 12 months from now, there will be a new desk and he’ll like orange amps again or something. Not saying it’s a bad thing, just that fluff likes changing things constantly, so always take things with a pinch of salt.
Looks really nice. And I love having a couch in there as well. After watching Paul David's home studio video, where he had one, I got one for my home office and it was kind of a game changer. Also, with your videos having been shot in a different space I was wondering if you moved. It all makes sense now haha. I think it's time for a studio tour video!! It's been like 3 years!!
Looks like the top of the desktop is on backwards. with those two holes on the corners being in front of the desktop they should be most likely in the back where the rackmount for the desk would have been but what do I know just those two holes look out of place
I'm in the process of either hiring a desk build or purchasing a Dangerfox or an equivalent. My current desk is okay, and it holds a lot of gear, but so much of it is below the desktop and that sucks for mixing and mastering. It also has 90 degree angles on the surface which causes it's own problems when recording.
I like to hillbilly it up in my studio. I don't need this Elite Fancy Pants Edition studio desk. I'm building mine out of old mismatched lumber for true hick aesthetics. But to each his own.
From the looks of your desktop, it might be backwards. I say this because there is a hole in each corner by your seated position. Could those be for the top you aren't using?
I searched through your videos and didn't see anything about the Genelecs. Could you talk about them if you are trying them out or transitioning to them?
Nah the wife divorced him for spending too much time on TH-cam Productions and spending too much money on guitars so he had to move back to the original studio in his parents basement 😂

Really don't understand the why behind not being able to shoot videos on your other desks. They make tripods and all sorts of camera mounts even ones that you can clamp onto your desk edge wherever you'd like it. Hmm. Just don't get that. Your other desk was real nice I thought
@@RiffsAndBeards ok but they make very small/short tripods that can go anywhere from say 5" up to whatever in a very small footprint.
