One of my absolute favorite anime, it's an absolute acid trip lmao and yet somehow one of the most gutwrenching and beautiful pieces of media I've ever experienced; I don't know how it does it. :' ) A few of the songs on the soundtrack just make me instantly tear up the moment I listen to them. I just really hate how nearly half of the show is spent on Ringo's...... godawful obsessive mission; it's horrible upon rewatch because you just want to skip past it all to get to the good stuff, and it makes recommending Penguindrum to a friend _so hard_ because I'm like "I swear it's worth getting past this creepy stuff :' ) it gets really good later I promise :' )))))))" 🙃 In general Ringo's character isn't used as well as I think she should have been for me to really appreciate her, although I still understand her role in the plot. Also really wish there was more of Sanetoshi because he was the most interesting character to me..... I love nearly all the characters though. Penguindrum is so underrated and I wish more people knew about it 💔 am a little bitter that Ikuhara's more recent work, Sarazanmai, is much more well-known and popular instead, cause imo that series isn't nearly as well-written and emotional and thought-provoking as Penguindrum is.

acid trip is one way to describe it lmao. I understand how the soundtrack could mean a lot to people, i really loved humming along to the openings each time! as for ringo, at first i didn't understand her character at all or what the hell the show was trying to argue but by the end of the series i actually thought her character was written so well and had so much development as a person so i can't help that even though things may have started off badly, at least now she is doing better which i'm happy about! without giving away too much spoilers in this comment section, i always saw ringo as acting out because of her lack of affection and attention from her family at home. that's all i can really say without going into specifics/spoilers! i think sanetoshi was definitely a character i wish i ended up understanding more by the end of the series...in hindsight we probably should've gotten more about him but the show's focus is generally on the three siblings so i understand why the story focuses not as heavily on sanetoshi.
i haven't watched Sarazanmai, i'll keep it in mind though. i'm super glad i ended up watching this thanks to my brother's recommendation, otherwise i wouldn't have known it existed! truly underrated, which is why i made a video like this for anyone who might be curious and wanna know what it's about. thank you for leaving such a thoughtful comment, i really appreciate it :)
